עַמּֽוֹ׃פ - ‘am·mōw כָּל־ that every kāl- אִישׁ֙ man ’îš לִהְי֤וֹת should be lih·yō·wṯ שֹׂרֵ֣ר master śō·rêr בְּבֵית֔וֹ of his own household . bə·ḇê·ṯōw Esther 2:1 אַחַר֙ Some time later ’a·ḥar הַדְּבָרִ֣ים . . . , had·də·ḇā·rîm הָאֵ֔לֶּה . . . hā·’êl·leh חֲמַ֖ת when the anger ḥă·maṯ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ of King ham·me·leḵ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֑וֹשׁ Xerxes ’ă·ḥaš·wê·rō·wōš כְּשֹׁ֕ךְ had subsided , kə·šōḵ זָכַ֤ר he remembered zā·ḵar אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַשְׁתִּי֙ Vashti waš·tî וְאֵ֣ת and wə·’êṯ אֲשֶׁר־ what ’ă·šer- עָשָׂ֔תָה she had done , ‘ā·śā·ṯāh וְאֵ֥ת and wə·’êṯ אֲשֶׁר־ what ’ă·šer- נִגְזַ֖ר had been decreed niḡ·zar עָלֶֽיהָ׃ against her . ‘ā·le·hā Esther 2:2 הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ Then the king’s ham·me·leḵ נַעֲרֵֽי־ attendants na·‘ă·rê- מְשָׁרְתָ֑יו . . . mə·šā·rə·ṯāw וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ proposed , way·yō·mə·rū יְבַקְשׁ֥וּ “ Let a search be made yə·ḇaq·šū טוֹב֥וֹת for beautiful ṭō·w·ḇō·wṯ מַרְאֶֽה׃ . . . mar·’eh נְעָר֥וֹת young nə·‘ā·rō·wṯ בְּתוּל֖וֹת virgins bə·ṯū·lō·wṯ לַמֶּ֛לֶךְ for the king , lam·me·leḵ Esther 2:3 הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ and let the king ham·me·leḵ וְיַפְקֵ֨ד appoint wə·yap̄·qêḏ פְּקִידִים֮ commissioners pə·qî·ḏîm בְּכָל־ in each bə·ḵāl מְדִינ֣וֹת province mə·ḏî·nō·wṯ מַלְכוּתוֹ֒ of his kingdom mal·ḵū·ṯōw וְיִקְבְּצ֣וּ to assemble wə·yiq·bə·ṣū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ all kāl- טוֹבַ֨ת the beautiful ṭō·w·ḇaṯ מַרְאֶ֜ה . . . mar·’eh נַעֲרָֽה־ young na·‘ă·rāh- בְ֠תוּלָה women ḇə·ṯū·lāh אֶל־ into ’el- בֵּ֣ית the harem bêṯ הַנָּשִׁ֔ים . . . han·nā·šîm אֶל־ at ’el- הַבִּירָה֙ the citadel hab·bî·rāh שׁוּשַׁ֤ן of Susa . šū·šan אֶל־ Let them be placed ’el- יַ֥ד under the care yaḏ הֵגֶ֛א of Hegai , hê·ḡe הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king’s ham·me·leḵ סְרִ֥יס eunuch sə·rîs שֹׁמֵ֣ר in charge of šō·mêr הַנָּשִׁ֑ים the women , han·nā·šîm וְנָת֖וֹן and let [them] be given wə·nā·ṯō·wn תַּמְרוּקֵיהֶֽן׃ beauty treatments . tam·rū·qê·hen Esther 2:4 וְהַֽנַּעֲרָ֗ה Then let the young woman wə·han·na·‘ă·rāh אֲשֶׁ֤ר who ’ă·šer תִּיטַב֙ pleases tî·ṭaḇ בְּעֵינֵ֣י . . . bə·‘ê·nê הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ תִּמְלֹ֖ךְ become queen tim·lōḵ תַּ֣חַת in place ta·ḥaṯ וַשְׁתִּ֑י of Vashti . ” waš·tî הַדָּבָ֛ר This suggestion had·dā·ḇār וַיִּיטַ֧ב pleased way·yî·ṭaḇ בְּעֵינֵ֥י . . . bə·‘ê·nê הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king , ham·me·leḵ וַיַּ֥עַשׂ and he acted way·ya·‘aś כֵּֽן׃ס accordingly . kên Esther 2:5 הָיָ֖ה [Now] there was hā·yāh הַבִּירָ֑ה at the citadel hab·bî·rāh בְּשׁוּשַׁ֣ן of Susa bə·šū·šan יְהוּדִ֔י a Jewish yə·hū·ḏî אִ֣ישׁ man ’îš אִ֥ישׁ ’îš יְמִינִֽי׃ from the tribe of Benjamin yə·mî·nî וּשְׁמ֣וֹ named ū·šə·mōw מָרְדֳּכַ֗י Mordecai mā·rə·do·ḵay בֶּ֣ן son ben
