עַל־ of ‘al- בֵּית֔וֹ his house , bê·ṯōw הָבֵ֥א “ Take hā·ḇê אֶת־ ’eṯ- הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים these men hā·’ă·nā·šîm הַבָּ֑יְתָה to my house . hab·bā·yə·ṯāh וּטְבֹ֤חַ Slaughter ū·ṭə·ḇō·aḥ טֶ֙בַח֙ an animal ṭe·ḇaḥ וְהָכֵ֔ן and prepare it , wə·hā·ḵên כִּ֥י for kî יֹאכְל֥וּ they shall dine yō·ḵə·lū הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים . . . hā·’ă·nā·šîm אִתִּ֛י with me ’it·tî בַּֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃ at noon . ” baṣ·ṣā·ho·rā·yim Genesis 43:17 הָאִ֔ישׁ The man hā·’îš וַיַּ֣עַשׂ did way·ya·‘aś כַּֽאֲשֶׁ֖ר as ka·’ă·šer יוֹסֵ֑ף Joseph yō·w·sêp̄ אָמַ֣ר had commanded ’ā·mar וַיָּבֵ֥א and took way·yā·ḇê הָאִ֛ישׁ [the brothers] hā·’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים - hā·’ă·nā·šîm יוֹסֵֽף׃ to Joseph’s yō·w·sêp̄ בֵּ֥יתָה house . bê·ṯāh Genesis 43:18 הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֗ים But the [brothers] hā·’ă·nā·šîm וַיִּֽירְא֣וּ were frightened way·yî·rə·’ū כִּ֣י that kî הֽוּבְאוּ֮ they had been taken hū·ḇə·’ū יוֹסֵף֒ to Joseph’s yō·w·sêp̄ בֵּ֣ית house . bêṯ אֲנַ֖חְנוּ “ We ’ă·naḥ·nū מֽוּבָאִ֑ים have been brought mū·ḇā·’îm עַל־ here because of ‘al- דְּבַ֤ר . . . də·ḇar הַכֶּ֙סֶף֙ the silver hak·ke·sep̄ הַשָּׁ֤ב that was returned haš·šāḇ בְּאַמְתְּחֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ in our bags bə·’am·tə·ḥō·ṯê·nū בַּתְּחִלָּ֔ה the first time , ” bat·tə·ḥil·lāh וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ they said . way·yō·mə·rū לְהִתְגֹּלֵ֤ל “ They intend lə·hiṯ·gō·lêl עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ . . . ‘ā·lê·nū וּלְהִתְנַפֵּ֣ל to overpower ū·lə·hiṯ·nap·pêl עָלֵ֔ינוּ us ‘ā·lê·nū וְלָקַ֧חַת and take wə·lā·qa·ḥaṯ אֹתָ֛נוּ us ’ō·ṯā·nū לַעֲבָדִ֖ים as slaves , la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm וְאֶת־ along with wə·’eṯ- חֲמֹרֵֽינוּ׃ our donkeys . ” ḥă·mō·rê·nū Genesis 43:19 וַֽיִּגְּשׁוּ֙ So they approached way·yig·gə·šū יוֹסֵ֑ף Joseph’s yō·w·sêp̄ הָאִ֔ישׁ steward hā·’îš אֲשֶׁ֖ר - ’ă·šer עַל־ - ‘al- בֵּ֣ית . . . bêṯ וַיְדַבְּר֥וּ and spoke way·ḏab·bə·rū אֵלָ֖יו to him ’ê·lāw אֶל־ . . . ’el- פֶּ֥תַח at the entrance pe·ṯaḥ הַבָּֽיִת׃ to the house . hab·bā·yiṯ Genesis 43:20 בִּ֣י “ Please , bî אֲדֹנִ֑י sir , ” ’ă·ḏō·nî וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ they said , way·yō·mə·rū יָרֹ֥ד “ we really did come down yā·rōḏ יָרַ֛דְנוּ . . . yā·raḏ·nū בַּתְּחִלָּ֖ה here the first time bat·tə·ḥil·lāh לִשְׁבָּר־ to buy liš·bār- אֹֽכֶל׃ food . ’ō·ḵel Genesis 43:21 וַֽיְהִ֞י But way·hî כִּי־ when kî- בָ֣אנוּ we came ḇā·nū אֶל־ to ’el- הַמָּל֗וֹן the place we lodged for the night , ham·mā·lō·wn וַֽנִּפְתְּחָה֙ we opened wan·nip̄·tə·ḥāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אַמְתְּחֹתֵ֔ינוּ our sacks ’am·tə·ḥō·ṯê·nū וְהִנֵּ֤ה and, behold , wə·hin·nêh אִישׁ֙ each of us [found] ’îš כֶֽסֶף־ his silver ḵe·sep̄- בְּפִ֣י in the mouth bə·p̄î אַמְתַּחְתּ֔וֹ of his sack ! ’am·taḥ·tōw בְּמִשְׁקָל֑וֹ It was the full amount bə·miš·qā·lōw כַּסְפֵּ֖נוּ of our silver , kas·pê·nū וַנָּ֥שֶׁב and we have brought it back wan·nā·šeḇ אֹת֖וֹ - ’ō·ṯōw
