בִּלְתִּ֖י again unless bil·tî אֲחִיכֶ֥ם your brother ’ă·ḥî·ḵem אִתְּכֶֽם׃ is with you . ’” ’it·tə·ḵem Genesis 43:6 לָמָ֥ה “ Why lā·māh הֲרֵעֹתֶ֖ם did you bring this trouble hă·rê·‘ō·ṯem לִ֑י upon me ? ” lî יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ asked . way·yō·mer לְהַגִּ֣יד “ Why did you tell lə·hag·gîḏ לָאִ֔ישׁ the man lā·’îš הַע֥וֹד you had another ha·‘ō·wḏ לָכֶ֖ם . . . lā·ḵem אָֽח׃ brother ? ” ’āḥ Genesis 43:7 וַיֹּאמְר֡וּ They replied , way·yō·mə·rū הָ֠אִישׁ “ The man hā·’îš שָׁא֣וֹל questioned šā·’ō·wl לָ֣נוּ us lā·nū שָֽׁאַל־ in detail šā·’al- וּלְמֽוֹלַדְתֵּ֜נוּ about ourselves and our family ū·lə·mō·w·laḏ·tê·nū לֵאמֹ֗ר : lê·mōr אֲבִיכֶ֥ם ‘ Is your father ’ă·ḇî·ḵem הַע֨וֹד still ha·‘ō·wḏ חַי֙ alive ? ḥay הֲיֵ֣שׁ Do you have hă·yêš לָכֶ֣ם . . . lā·ḵem אָ֔ח another brother ? ’ ’āḥ וַנַ֨גֶּד־ And we answered wa·nag·geḏ- ל֔וֹ him lō עַל־ accordingly ‘al- פִּ֖י . . . . pî הַדְּבָרִ֣ים . . . had·də·ḇā·rîm הָאֵ֑לֶּה . . . hā·’êl·leh הֲיָד֣וֹעַ How could we possibly know hă·yā·ḏō·w·a‘ נֵדַ֔ע . . . nê·ḏa‘ כִּ֣י that kî יֹאמַ֔ר he would say , yō·mar הוֹרִ֖ידוּ ‘ Bring hō·w·rî·ḏū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲחִיכֶֽם׃ your brother here ’? ” ’ă·ḥî·ḵem Genesis 43:8 יְהוּדָ֜ה And Judah yə·hū·ḏāh וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- אָבִ֗יו his father ’ā·ḇîw יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל Israel , yiś·rā·’êl שִׁלְחָ֥ה “ Send šil·ḥāh הַנַּ֛עַר the boy han·na·‘ar אִתִּ֖י with me , ’it·tî וְנָק֣וּמָה vvv wə·nā·qū·māh וְנֵלֵ֑כָה and we will go at once , wə·nê·lê·ḵāh וְנִֽחְיֶה֙ so that we may live wə·niḥ·yeh וְלֹ֣א and not wə·lō נָמ֔וּת die — nā·mūṯ גַּם־ . . . gam- אֲנַ֥חְנוּ neither we , ’ă·naḥ·nū גַם־ . . . ḡam- אַתָּ֖ה nor you , ’at·tāh גַּם־ . . . gam- טַפֵּֽנוּ׃ nor our children . ṭap·pê·nū Genesis 43:9 אָֽנֹכִי֙ I ’ā·nō·ḵî אֶֽעֶרְבֶ֔נּוּ will guarantee his safety . ’e·‘er·ḇen·nū תְּבַקְשֶׁ֑נּוּ You may hold me tə·ḇaq·šen·nū מִיָּדִ֖י personally responsible . mî·yā·ḏî אִם־ If ’im- לֹ֨א I do not lō הֲבִיאֹתִ֤יו bring him back hă·ḇî·’ō·ṯîw אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ - ’ê·le·ḵā וְהִצַּגְתִּ֣יו and set him wə·hiṣ·ṣaḡ·tîw לְפָנֶ֔יךָ before you , lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā לְךָ֖ then may I lə·ḵā וְחָטָ֥אתִֽי bear the guilt before you wə·ḥā·ṭā·ṯî כָּל־ all my life kāl- הַיָּמִֽים׃ . . . . hay·yā·mîm Genesis 43:10 כִּ֖י If we had not kî לוּלֵ֣א . . . lū·lê הִתְמַהְמָ֑הְנוּ delayed , hiṯ·mah·mā·hə·nū כִּֽי־ . . . kî- שַׁ֖בְנוּ we could have come and gone šaḇ·nū זֶ֥ה . . . zeh פַעֲמָֽיִם׃ twice p̄a·‘ă·mā·yim עַתָּ֥ה by now . ” ‘at·tāh Genesis 43:11 אֲבִיהֶ֗ם Then their father ’ă·ḇî·hem יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl
