וּפַחֲו֖וֹת and governors ū·p̄a·ḥă·wō·wṯ עֵ֣בֶר of the region west ‘ê·ḇer הַנָּהָ֑ר of the Euphrates , han·nā·hār וְנִשְּׂא֥וּ who proceeded to assist wə·niś·śə·’ū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָ֖ם the people hā·‘ām וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- בֵּֽית־ and the house bêṯ- הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ס of God . hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm Ezra 9:1 אֵ֗לֶּה After these things ’êl·leh וּכְכַלּ֣וֹת had been accomplished , ū·ḵə·ḵal·lō·wṯ הַשָּׂרִים֙ the leaders haś·śā·rîm נִגְּשׁ֨וּ approached nig·gə·šū אֵלַ֤י me ’ê·lay לֵאמֹ֔ר and said , lê·mōr הָעָ֤ם “ The people hā·‘ām יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel , yiś·rā·’êl וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים including the priests wə·hak·kō·hă·nîm וְהַלְוִיִּ֔ם and Levites , wə·hal·wî·yim לֹֽא־ have not lō- נִבְדְּל֞וּ kept themselves separate niḇ·də·lū הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת from the surrounding hā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ מֵעַמֵּ֖י peoples mê·‘am·mê כְּ֠תוֹעֲבֹֽתֵיהֶם whose abominations kə·ṯō·w·‘ă·ḇō·ṯê·hem לַכְּנַעֲנִ֨י are like those of the Canaanites , lak·kə·na·‘ă·nî הַחִתִּ֜י Hittites , ha·ḥit·tî הַפְּרִזִּ֣י Perizzites , hap·pə·riz·zî הַיְבוּסִ֗י Jebusites , hay·ḇū·sî הָֽעַמֹּנִי֙ Ammonites , hā·‘am·mō·nî הַמֹּ֣אָבִ֔י Moabites , ham·mō·’ā·ḇî הַמִּצְרִ֖י Egyptians , ham·miṣ·rî וְהָאֱמֹרִֽי׃ and Amorites . wə·hā·’ĕ·mō·rî Ezra 9:2 כִּֽי־ Indeed , kî- נָשְׂא֣וּ the Israelites have taken nā·śə·’ū מִבְּנֹֽתֵיהֶ֗ם some of their daughters [as wives] mib·bə·nō·ṯê·hem לָהֶם֙ for themselves lā·hem וְלִבְנֵיהֶ֔ם and their sons , wə·liḇ·nê·hem הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ so that the holy haq·qō·ḏeš זֶ֣רַע seed ze·ra‘ וְהִתְעָֽרְבוּ֙ has been mixed wə·hiṯ·‘ā·rə·ḇū בְּעַמֵּ֖י with the people bə·‘am·mê הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת of the land . hā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ הַשָּׂרִ֣ים And the leaders haś·śā·rîm וְהַסְּגָנִ֗ים and officials wə·has·sə·ḡā·nîm וְיַ֧ד have taken the lead wə·yaḏ הָֽיְתָ֛ה . . . hā·yə·ṯāh רִאשׁוֹנָֽה׃ס . . . ri·šō·w·nāh הַזֶּ֖ה in this haz·zeh בַּמַּ֥עַל unfaithfulness ! ” bam·ma·‘al Ezra 9:3 וּכְשָׁמְעִי֙ When I heard ū·ḵə·šā·mə·‘î אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַזֶּ֔ה this haz·zeh הַדָּבָ֣ר report , had·dā·ḇār קָרַ֥עְתִּי I tore qā·ra‘·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בִּגְדִ֖י my tunic biḡ·ḏî וּמְעִילִ֑י and cloak , ū·mə·‘î·lî וָאֶמְרְטָ֞ה pulled out wā·’em·rə·ṭāh מִשְּׂעַ֤ר some hair miś·śə·‘ar רֹאשִׁי֙ from my head rō·šî וּזְקָנִ֔י and beard , ū·zə·qā·nî וָאֵשְׁבָ֖ה and sat down wā·’ê·šə·ḇāh מְשׁוֹמֵֽם׃ in horror . mə·šō·w·mêm Ezra 9:4 כֹּ֤ל Then everyone kōl חָרֵד֙ who trembled ḥā·rêḏ בְּדִבְרֵ֣י at the words bə·ḏiḇ·rê אֱלֹהֵֽי־ of the God ’ĕ·lō·hê- יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl יֵאָסְפ֗וּ gathered yê·’ā·sə·p̄ū וְאֵלַ֣י around me wə·’ê·lay עַ֖ל because of ‘al מַ֣עַל the unfaithfulness ma·‘al הַגּוֹלָ֑ה of the exiles , hag·gō·w·lāh וַאֲנִי֙ while I wa·’ă·nî יֹשֵׁ֣ב sat there yō·šêḇ מְשׁוֹמֵ֔ם in horror mə·šō·w·mêm עַ֖ד until ‘aḏ הָעָֽרֶב׃ the evening hā·‘ā·reḇ לְמִנְחַ֥ת offering . lə·min·ḥaṯ Ezra 9:5 הָעֶ֗רֶב At the evening hā·‘e·reḇ וּבְמִנְחַ֣ת offering , ū·ḇə·min·ḥaṯ קַ֚מְתִּי I got up qam·tî מִתַּֽעֲנִיתִ֔י from my humiliation mit·ta·‘ă·nî·ṯî בִגְדִ֖י with my tunic ḇiḡ·ḏî וּמְעִילִ֑י and cloak ū·mə·‘î·lî
