עָלָ֔יו was upon him . ‘ā·lāw Ezra 7:7 שֶׁ֖בַע So in the seventh še·ḇa‘ בִּשְׁנַת־ year biš·naṯ- הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ of King ham·me·leḵ לְאַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥סְתְּא Artaxerxes , lə·’ar·taḥ·šast וַיַּֽעֲל֣וּ he went up way·ya·‘ă·lū אֶל־ to ’el- יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם Jerusalem yə·rū·šā·lim וּמִן־ with some of ū·min- מִבְּנֵֽי־ the Israelites mib·bə·nê- יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל . . . , yiś·rā·’êl הַכֹּהֲנִ֨ים including priests , hak·kō·hă·nîm וְהַלְוִיִּ֜ם Levites , wə·hal·wî·yim וְהַמְשֹׁרְרִ֧ים singers , wə·ham·šō·rə·rîm וְהַשֹּׁעֲרִ֛ים gatekeepers , wə·haš·šō·‘ă·rîm וְהַנְּתִינִ֖ים and temple servants . wə·han·nə·ṯî·nîm Ezra 7:8 וַיָּבֹ֥א Ezra arrived way·yā·ḇō יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם in Jerusalem yə·rū·šā·lim הַחֲמִישִׁ֑י in the fifth ha·ḥă·mî·šî הִ֛יא . . . hî בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ month ba·ḥō·ḏeš הַשְּׁבִיעִ֖ית of the seventh haš·šə·ḇî·‘îṯ שְׁנַ֥ת year šə·naṯ לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ of the king . lam·me·leḵ Ezra 7:9 כִּ֗י - kî ה֣וּא He hū יְסֻ֔ד had begun yə·suḏ הַֽמַּעֲלָ֖ה the journey ham·ma·‘ă·lāh מִבָּבֶ֑ל from Babylon mib·bā·ḇel בְּאֶחָד֙ on the first [day] bə·’e·ḥāḏ הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן of the first hā·ri·šō·wn לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month , la·ḥō·ḏeš בָּ֚א and he arrived bā אֶל־ in ’el- יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם Jerusalem yə·rū·šā·lim וּבְאֶחָ֞ד on the first ū·ḇə·’e·ḥāḏ הַחֲמִישִׁ֗י day of the fifth ha·ḥă·mî·šî לַחֹ֣דֶשׁ month , la·ḥō·ḏeš הַטּוֹבָ֥ה for the gracious haṭ·ṭō·w·ḇāh כְּיַד־ hand kə·yaḏ- אֱלֹהָ֖יו of his God ’ĕ·lō·hāw עָלָֽיו׃ was upon him . ‘ā·lāw Ezra 7:10 כִּ֤י For kî עֶזְרָא֙ Ezra ‘ez·rā הֵכִ֣ין had set hê·ḵîn לְבָב֔וֹ his heart lə·ḇā·ḇōw לִדְר֛וֹשׁ to study liḏ·rō·wōš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- תּוֹרַ֥ת the Law tō·w·raṯ יְהוָ֖ה of YHWH , Yah·weh וְלַעֲשֹׂ֑ת to practice it , wə·la·‘ă·śōṯ וּלְלַמֵּ֥ד and to teach ū·lə·lam·mêḏ חֹ֥ק its statutes ḥōq וּמִשְׁפָּֽט׃ס and ordinances ū·miš·pāṭ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל in Israel . bə·yiś·rā·’êl Ezra 7:11 וְזֶ֣ה׀ This wə·zeh פַּרְשֶׁ֣גֶן is the text par·še·ḡen הַֽנִּשְׁתְּוָ֗ן of the letter han·niš·tə·wān אֲשֶׁ֤ר - ’ă·šer הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ King ham·me·leḵ אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֔סְתְּא Artaxerxes ’ar·taḥ·šast נָתַן֙ had given nā·ṯan לְעֶזְרָ֥א to Ezra lə·‘ez·rā הַכֹּהֵ֖ן the priest hak·kō·hên הַסֹּפֵ֑ר [and] scribe , has·sō·p̄êr סֹפֵ֞ר an expert sō·p̄êr דִּבְרֵ֧י vvv diḇ·rê מִצְוֺת־ in the commandments miṣ·wōṯ- וְחֻקָּ֖יו and statutes wə·ḥuq·qāw יְהוָ֛ה of YHWH Yah·weh עַל־ to ‘al- יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃פ Israel : yiś·rā·’êl Ezra 7:12 אַ֨רְתַּחְשַׁ֔סְתְּא Artaxerxes , ’ar·taḥ·šast מֶ֖לֶךְ king me·leḵ מַלְכַיָּ֑א of kings . mal·ḵay·yā לְעֶזְרָ֣א To Ezra lə·‘ez·rā כָ֠הֲנָא the priest , ḵā·hă·nā סָפַ֨ר the scribe sā·p̄ar דָּתָ֜א of the Law dā·ṯā דִּֽי־ of dî- אֱלָ֧הּ the God ’ĕ·lāh שְׁמַיָּ֛א of heaven : šə·may·yā
