נַהֲרָ֑ה . . . na·hă·rāh שְׁלַ֞ח sent šə·laḥ עַל־ to ‘al- מַלְכָּֽא׃ King mal·kā דָּרְיָ֖וֶשׁ Darius . dā·rə·yā·weš Ezra 5:7 פִּתְגָמָ֖א The report piṯ·ḡā·mā שְׁלַ֣חוּ they sent šə·la·ḥū עֲל֑וֹהִי him ‘ă·lō·w·hî כְּתִ֣יב read as follows kə·ṯîḇ בְּגַוֵּ֔הּ . . . bə·ḡaw·wêh וְכִדְנָה֙ . . . : wə·ḵiḏ·nāh מַלְכָּ֖א To King mal·kā לְדָרְיָ֥וֶשׁ Darius : lə·ḏā·rə·yā·weš כֹֽלָּא׃ס All ḵōl·lā שְׁלָמָ֥א peace . šə·lā·mā Ezra 5:8 לֶהֱוֵ֣א Let it be le·hĕ·wê יְדִ֣יעַ׀ known yə·ḏî·a‘ לְמַלְכָּ֗א to the king lə·mal·kā דִּֽי־ that dî- אֲזַ֜לְנָא we went ’ă·zal·nā מְדִֽינְתָּא֙ into the province mə·ḏî·nə·tā לִיה֤וּד of Judah , lî·hūḏ לְבֵית֙ to the house lə·ḇêṯ רַבָּ֔א of the great rab·bā אֱלָהָ֣א God . ’ĕ·lā·hā וְה֤וּא [The people] wə·hū מִתְבְּנֵא֙ are rebuilding it miṯ·bə·nê אֶ֣בֶן with large stones ’e·ḇen גְּלָ֔ל . . . , gə·lāl מִתְּשָׂ֣ם and placing mit·tə·śām וְאָ֖ע timbers wə·’ā‘ בְּכֻתְלַיָּ֑א in the walls . bə·ḵuṯ·lay·yā דָ֛ךְ This ḏāḵ וַעֲבִ֥ידְתָּא work wa·‘ă·ḇî·ḏə·tā מִתְעַבְדָ֖א is being carried out miṯ·‘aḇ·ḏā אָסְפַּ֥רְנָא diligently ’ā·sə·par·nā וּמַצְלַ֥ח and is prospering ū·maṣ·laḥ בְּיֶדְהֹֽם׃ס in their hands . bə·yeḏ·hōm Ezra 5:9 אֱדַ֗יִן So ’ĕ·ḏa·yin שְׁאֵ֙לְנָא֙ we questioned šə·’ê·lə·nā אִלֵּ֔ךְ the ’il·lêḵ כְּנֵ֖מָא . . . kə·nê·mā לְשָׂבַיָּ֣א elders lə·śā·ḇay·yā אֲמַ֣רְנָא and asked ’ă·mar·nā לְּהֹ֑ם , lə·hōm מַן־ “ Who man- שָׂ֨ם authorized śām טְעֵ֗ם . . . ṭə·‘êm לְכֹ֜ם you lə·ḵōm לְמִבְנְיָ֔ה to rebuild lə·miḇ·nə·yāh דְנָה֙ this ḏə·nāh בַּיְתָ֤א temple bay·ṯā לְשַׁכְלָלָֽה׃ and restore lə·šaḵ·lā·lāh דְנָ֖ה this ḏə·nāh וְאֻשַּׁרְנָ֥א structure ? ” wə·’uš·šar·nā Ezra 5:10 וְאַ֧ף We also wə·’ap̄ שְׁאֵ֥לְנָא asked for šə·’ê·lə·nā לְּהֹ֖ם their lə·hōm שְׁמָהָתְהֹ֛ם names , šə·mā·hā·ṯə·hōm דִּ֛י so that dî נִכְתֻּ֥ב we could write down niḵ·tuḇ שֻׁם־ the names šum- גֻּבְרַיָּ֖א of their leaders guḇ·ray·yā דִּ֥י . . . dî בְרָאשֵׁיהֹֽם׃ס . . . ḇə·rā·šê·hōm לְהוֹדָעוּתָ֑ךְ for your information . lə·hō·w·ḏā·‘ū·ṯāḵ Ezra 5:11 וּכְנֵ֥מָא And this ū·ḵə·nê·mā פִתְגָמָ֖א is the answer p̄iṯ·ḡā·mā הֲתִיב֣וּנָא they returned hă·ṯî·ḇū·nā לְמֵמַ֑ר . . . : lə·mê·mar אֲנַ֣חְנָא “ We ’ă·naḥ·nā הִמּ֡וֹ are him·mōw עַבְדוֹהִי֩ servants ‘aḇ·ḏō·w·hî דִֽי־ ḏî- אֱלָ֨הּ of the God ’ĕ·lāh שְׁמַיָּ֜א of heaven šə·may·yā וְאַרְעָ֗א and earth , wə·’ar·‘ā וּבָנַ֤יִן and we are rebuilding ū·ḇā·na·yin בַּיְתָא֙ the temple bay·ṯā דִּֽי־ that dî- הֲוָ֨א was hă·wā בְנֵ֜ה built ḇə·nêh שַׂגִּיאָ֔ן many śag·gî·’ān שְׁנִ֣ין years šə·nîn מִקַּדְמַ֤ת ago , miq·qaḏ·maṯ
