Genesis 42:15 בְּזֹ֖את And this is how bə·zōṯ תִּבָּחֵ֑נוּ you will be tested : tib·bā·ḥê·nū פַרְעֹה֙ As surely as Pharaoh p̄ar·‘ōh חֵ֤י lives , ḥê אִם־ you shall not ’im- תֵּצְא֣וּ leave tê·ṣə·’ū מִזֶּ֔ה this miz·zeh כִּ֧י place unless kî אִם־ . . . ’im- הַקָּטֹ֖ן your youngest haq·qā·ṭōn אֲחִיכֶ֥ם brother ’ă·ḥî·ḵem בְּב֛וֹא comes bə·ḇō·w הֵֽנָּה׃ here . hên·nāh Genesis 42:16 שִׁלְח֨וּ Send šil·ḥū אֶחָד֮ one ’e·ḥāḏ מִכֶּ֣ם of your number mik·kem וְיִקַּ֣ח to get wə·yiq·qaḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲחִיכֶם֒ your brother ; ’ă·ḥî·ḵem וְאַתֶּם֙ the rest of you wə·’at·tem הֵאָ֣סְר֔וּ will be confined hê·’ā·sə·rū הַֽאֱמֶ֖ת so that the truth ha·’ĕ·meṯ דִּבְרֵיכֶ֔ם of your words diḇ·rê·ḵem וְיִבָּֽחֲנוּ֙ may be tested . wə·yib·bā·ḥă·nū אִתְּכֶ֑ם . . . ’it·tə·ḵem וְאִם־ If wə·’im- לֹ֕א they are untrue , lō פַרְעֹ֔ה then as surely as Pharaoh p̄ar·‘ōh כִּ֥י . . . kî חֵ֣י lives , ḥê אַתֶּֽם׃ you ’at·tem מְרַגְּלִ֖ים are spies ! ” mə·rag·gə·lîm Genesis 42:17 וַיֶּאֱסֹ֥ף So Joseph imprisoned them way·ye·’ĕ·sōp̄ אֹתָ֛ם - ’ō·ṯām אֶל־ - ’el- מִשְׁמָ֖ר . . . miš·mār שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת for three šə·lō·šeṯ יָמִֽים׃ days , yā·mîm Genesis 42:18 הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י and on the third haš·šə·lî·šî בַּיּ֣וֹם day bay·yō·wm יוֹסֵף֙ [he] yō·w·sêp̄ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֲלֵהֶ֤ם to them , ’ă·lê·hem אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲנִ֥י “ I ’ă·nî יָרֵֽא׃ fear yā·rê הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים God . hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm עֲשׂ֖וּ So do ‘ă·śū זֹ֥את this zōṯ וִֽחְי֑וּ and you will live : wiḥ·yū Genesis 42:19 אִם־ If ’im- אַתֶּ֔ם you ’at·tem אֲחִיכֶ֣ם . . . ’ă·ḥî·ḵem כֵּנִ֣ים are honest , kê·nîm אֶחָ֔ד leave one ’e·ḥāḏ יֵאָסֵ֖ר of your brothers in custody yê·’ā·sêr בְּבֵ֣ית . . . bə·ḇêṯ מִשְׁמַרְכֶ֑ם . . . miš·mar·ḵem וְאַתֶּם֙ while the rest of you wə·’at·tem לְכ֣וּ go lə·ḵū הָבִ֔יאוּ and take back hā·ḇî·’ū שֶׁ֖בֶר grain še·ḇer רַעֲב֥וֹן to relieve the hunger ra·‘ă·ḇō·wn בָּתֵּיכֶֽם׃ of your households . bāt·tê·ḵem Genesis 42:20 וְאֶת־ Then wə·’eṯ- תָּבִ֣יאוּ bring tā·ḇî·’ū הַקָּטֹן֙ your youngest haq·qā·ṭōn אֲחִיכֶ֤ם brother ’ă·ḥî·ḵem אֵלַ֔י to me ’ê·lay דִבְרֵיכֶ֖ם so that your words ḏiḇ·rê·ḵem וְיֵאָמְנ֥וּ can be verified , wə·yê·’ā·mə·nū וְלֹ֣א that you may not wə·lō תָמ֑וּתוּ die . ” ṯā·mū·ṯū כֵֽן׃ And to this ḵên וַיַּעֲשׂוּ־ they consented . way·ya·‘ă·śū- Genesis 42:21 וַיֹּאמְר֞וּ Then they said way·yō·mə·rū אֶל־ to ’el- אִ֣ישׁ one ’îš אָחִ֗יו another , ’ā·ḥîw
