Genesis 42:2 הִנֵּ֣ה “ Look , ” hin·nêh וַיֹּ֕אמֶר he added , way·yō·mer שָׁמַ֔עְתִּי “ I have heard šā·ma‘·tî כִּ֥י that kî יֶשׁ־ there is yeš- שֶׁ֖בֶר grain še·ḇer בְּמִצְרָ֑יִם in Egypt . bə·miṣ·rā·yim רְדוּ־ Go down rə·ḏū- שָׁ֙מָּה֙ there šām·māh וְשִׁבְרוּ־ and buy wə·šiḇ·rū- לָ֣נוּ some for us lā·nū מִשָּׁ֔ם . . . , miš·šām וְנִחְיֶ֖ה so that we may live wə·niḥ·yeh וְלֹ֥א and not wə·lō נָמֽוּת׃ die . ” nā·mūṯ Genesis 42:3 עֲשָׂרָ֑ה So ten ‘ă·śā·rāh יוֹסֵ֖ף of Joseph’s yō·w·sêp̄ אֲחֵֽי־ brothers ’ă·ḥê- וַיֵּרְד֥וּ went down way·yê·rə·ḏū לִשְׁבֹּ֥ר to buy liš·bōr בָּ֖ר grain bār מִמִּצְרָֽיִם׃ from Egypt . mim·miṣ·rā·yim Genesis 42:4 וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- יַעֲקֹ֖ב But Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ לֹא־ did not lō- שָׁלַ֥ח send šā·laḥ יוֹסֵ֔ף Joseph’s yō·w·sêp̄ אֲחִ֣י brother ’ă·ḥî בִּנְיָמִין֙ Benjamin bin·yā·mîn אֶת־ with ’eṯ- אֶחָ֑יו his brothers , ’e·ḥāw כִּ֣י for kî אָמַ֔ר he said , ’ā·mar פֶּן־ “ I am afraid that pen- אָסֽוֹן׃ harm ’ā·sō·wn יִקְרָאֶ֖נּוּ might befall him . ” yiq·rā·’en·nū Genesis 42:5 בְּנֵ֣י So the sons bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl בְּת֣וֹךְ were among bə·ṯō·wḵ הַבָּאִ֑ים those who hab·bā·’îm וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ came way·yā·ḇō·’ū לִשְׁבֹּ֖ר to buy grain , liš·bōr כִּֽי־ since kî- הָרָעָ֖ב the famine hā·rā·‘āḇ הָיָ֥ה had [also] spread hā·yāh בְּאֶ֥רֶץ to the land bə·’e·reṣ כְּנָֽעַן׃ of Canaan . kə·nā·‘an Genesis 42:6 וְיוֹסֵ֗ף Now Joseph wə·yō·w·sêp̄ ה֚וּא was hū הַשַּׁלִּ֣יט the ruler haš·šal·lîṭ עַל־ of ‘al- הָאָ֔רֶץ the land ; hā·’ā·reṣ ה֥וּא [he was the one] who hū הַמַּשְׁבִּ֖יר sold grain ham·maš·bîr לְכָל־ to all lə·ḵāl הָאָ֑רֶץ its hā·’ā·reṣ עַ֣ם people . ‘am יוֹסֵ֔ף So when [his] yō·w·sêp̄ אֲחֵ֣י brothers ’ă·ḥê וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ arrived , way·yā·ḇō·’ū וַיִּשְׁתַּֽחֲווּ־ they bowed down way·yiš·ta·ḥă·wū- ל֥וֹ before him lōw אַפַּ֖יִם with their faces ’ap·pa·yim אָֽרְצָה׃ to the ground . ’ā·rə·ṣāh Genesis 42:7 יוֹסֵ֛ף And when Joseph yō·w·sêp̄ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּ֥רְא saw way·yar אֶחָ֖יו his brothers , ’e·ḥāw וַיַּכִּרֵ֑ם he recognized them , way·yak·ki·rêm וַיִּתְנַכֵּ֨ר but he treated them as strangers way·yiṯ·nak·kêr אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם . . . ’ă·lê·hem וַיְדַבֵּ֧ר and spoke way·ḏab·bêr קָשׁ֗וֹת harshly qā·šō·wṯ אִתָּ֣ם to them . ’it·tām מֵאַ֣יִן “ Where mê·’a·yin בָּאתֶ֔ם have you come from ? ” bā·ṯem וַיֹּ֤אמֶר he asked way·yō·mer אֲלֵהֶם֙ . . . . ’ă·lê·hem מֵאֶ֥רֶץ “ From the land mê·’e·reṣ כְּנַ֖עַן of Canaan , ” kə·na·‘an וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ they replied . way·yō·mə·rū לִשְׁבָּר־ “ [We are here] to buy liš·bār-
