הַמַּמְלָכָ֖ה the kingdom ham·mam·lā·ḵāh וַתִּשְׁקֹ֥ט was at peace . wat·tiš·qōṭ 2 Chronicles 14:6 כִּֽי־ Because kî- הָאָ֗רֶץ the land hā·’ā·reṣ שָׁקְטָ֣ה was at peace , šā·qə·ṭāh וַיִּ֛בֶן Asa built way·yi·ḇen מְצוּרָ֖ה fortified mə·ṣū·rāh עָרֵ֥י cities ‘ā·rê בִּיהוּדָ֑ה in Judah . bî·hū·ḏāh הָאֵ֔לֶּה In those hā·’êl·leh בַּשָּׁנִ֣ים days baš·šā·nîm וְאֵין־ no one wə·’ên- מִלְחָמָה֙ made war mil·ḥā·māh עִמּ֤וֹ with him , ‘im·mōw כִּֽי־ because kî- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh לֽוֹ׃ - lōw הֵנִ֥יחַ had given him rest . hê·nî·aḥ 2 Chronicles 14:7 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר So he said way·yō·mer לִֽיהוּדָ֜ה to the people of Judah , lî·hū·ḏāh נִבְנֶ֣ה׀ “ Let us build niḇ·neh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָאֵ֗לֶּה these hā·’êl·leh הֶעָרִ֣ים cities he·‘ā·rîm וְנָסֵ֨ב and surround them wə·nā·sêḇ חוֹמָ֣ה with walls ḥō·w·māh וּמִגְדָּלִים֮ and towers , ū·miḡ·dā·lîm דְּלָתַ֣יִם with doors də·lā·ṯa·yim וּבְרִיחִים֒ and bars . ū·ḇə·rî·ḥîm הָאָ֜רֶץ The land hā·’ā·reṣ עוֹדֶ֨נּוּ is still ‘ō·w·ḏen·nū לְפָנֵ֗ינוּ ours lə·p̄ā·nê·nū כִּ֤י because kî דָרַ֙שְׁנוּ֙ we have sought ḏā·raš·nū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְהוָ֣ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ our God . ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū דָּרַ֕שְׁנוּ We have sought [Him] dā·raš·nū וַיָּ֥נַֽח and He has given us rest way·yā·naḥ לָ֖נוּ on lā·nū מִסָּבִ֑יב every side .” mis·sā·ḇîḇ וַיִּבְנ֖וּ So they built way·yiḇ·nū וַיַּצְלִֽיחוּ׃פ and prospered . way·yaṣ·lî·ḥū 2 Chronicles 14:8 לְאָסָ֗א Asa lə·’ā·sā וַיְהִ֣י had way·hî חַיִל֮ an army ḥa·yil שְׁלֹ֣שׁ of 300,000 men šə·lōš מֵא֣וֹת . . . mê·’ō·wṯ אֶ֔לֶףס . . . ʾɛ·lɛ·p̄s מִֽיהוּדָה֙ from Judah mî·hū·ḏāh נֹשֵׂ֣א bearing nō·śê צִנָּ֣ה large shields ṣin·nāh וָרֹמַח֒ and spears , wā·rō·maḥ מָאתַ֥יִם and 280,000 men mā·ṯa·yim וּשְׁמוֹנִ֖ים . . . ū·šə·mō·w·nîm אָ֑לֶף . . . ’ā·lep̄ וּמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ן from Benjamin ū·mib·bin·yā·min נֹשְׂאֵ֤י bearing nō·śə·’ê מָגֵן֙ small shields mā·ḡên וְדֹ֣רְכֵי and drawing wə·ḏō·rə·ḵê קֶ֔שֶׁת the bow . qe·šeṯ כָּל־ All kāl- אֵ֖לֶּה these [were] ’êl·leh גִּבּ֥וֹרֵי mighty men gib·bō·w·rê חָֽיִל׃ of valor . ḥā·yil 2 Chronicles 14:9 זֶ֣רַח Then Zerah ze·raḥ הַכּוּשִׁ֗י the Cushite hak·kū·šî וַיֵּצֵ֨א came way·yê·ṣê אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם against them ’ă·lê·hem בְּחַ֙יִל֙ with an army bə·ḥa·yil אֶ֣לֶף of 1,000,000 men ’e·lep̄ אֲלָפִ֔ים . . . ’ă·lā·p̄îm שְׁלֹ֣שׁ [and] 300 šə·lōš מֵא֑וֹת . . . mê·’ō·wṯ וּמַרְכָּב֖וֹת chariots , ū·mar·kā·ḇō·wṯ וַיָּבֹ֖א and they advanced way·yā·ḇō עַד־ as far as ‘aḏ- מָרֵשָֽׁה׃ Mareshah . mā·rê·šāh 2 Chronicles 14:10 אָסָ֖א So Asa ’ā·sā וַיֵּצֵ֥א marched out way·yê·ṣê לְפָנָ֑יו against him lə·p̄ā·nāw וַיַּֽעַרְכוּ֙ and lined up way·ya·‘ar·ḵū מִלְחָמָ֔ה in battle formation mil·ḥā·māh בְּגֵ֥יא in the Valley bə·ḡê צְפַ֖תָה of Zephathah ṣə·p̄a·ṯāh
