1 Chronicles 19:8 וַיִּשְׁמַ֖ע On hearing this , way·yiš·ma‘ דָּוִ֑יד David dā·wîḏ וַיִּשְׁלַח֙ sent way·yiš·laḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יוֹאָ֔ב Joab yō·w·’āḇ וְאֵ֥ת and wə·’êṯ כָּל־ the entire kāl- צָבָ֖א army ṣā·ḇā הַגִּבּוֹרִֽים׃ of mighty men . hag·gib·bō·w·rîm 1 Chronicles 19:9 בְּנֵ֣י The Ammonites bə·nê עַמּ֔וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn וַיֵּצְאוּ֙ marched out way·yê·ṣə·’ū וַיַּֽעַרְכ֥וּ and arrayed themselves way·ya·‘ar·ḵū מִלְחָמָ֖ה for battle mil·ḥā·māh פֶּ֣תַח at the entrance pe·ṯaḥ הָעִ֑יר to the city , hā·‘îr וְהַמְּלָכִ֣ים while the kings wə·ham·mə·lā·ḵîm אֲשֶׁר־ who ’ă·šer- בָּ֔אוּ had come bā·’ū לְבַדָּ֖ם stayed by themselves lə·ḇad·dām בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ in the open country . baś·śā·ḏeh 1 Chronicles 19:10 יוֹאָ֗ב When Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיַּ֣רְא saw way·yar כִּֽי־ - kî- הָיְתָ֧ה - hā·yə·ṯāh הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה the battle lines ham·mil·ḥā·māh אֵלָ֖יו ’ê·lāw פָּנִ֣ים before him pā·nîm פְנֵי־ p̄ə·nê- וְאָח֑וֹר and behind him , wə·’ā·ḥō·wr וַיִּבְחַ֗ר he selected way·yiḇ·ḥar מִכָּל־ some of mik·kāl בָּחוּר֙ the best bā·ḥūr בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל men of Israel bə·yiś·rā·’êl וַֽיַּעֲרֹ֖ךְ and arrayed them way·ya·‘ă·rōḵ לִקְרַ֥את against liq·raṯ אֲרָֽם׃ the Arameans . ’ă·rām 1 Chronicles 19:11 וְאֵת֙ And wə·’êṯ נָתַ֕ן he placed nā·ṯan יֶ֣תֶר the rest ye·ṯer הָעָ֔ם of the forces hā·‘ām בְּיַ֖ד under the command bə·yaḏ אָחִ֑יו of his brother ’ā·ḥîw אַבְשַׁ֣י Abishai , ’aḇ·šay וַיַּ֣עַרְכ֔וּ who arrayed them way·ya·‘ar·ḵū לִקְרַ֖את against liq·raṯ בְּנֵ֥י the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּֽוֹן׃ . . . . ‘am·mō·wn 1 Chronicles 19:12 אִם־ “ If ’im- אֲרָ֔ם the Arameans ’ă·rām תֶּחֱזַ֤ק are too strong te·ḥĕ·zaq מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ for me , ” mim·men·nî וַיֹּ֗אמֶר said Joab , way·yō·mer וְהָיִ֥יתָ “ then you will come wə·hā·yî·ṯā לִּ֖י to my lî לִתְשׁוּעָ֑הס rescue . liṯ·šū·ʿå̄·hs וְאִם־ And if wə·’im- בְּנֵ֥י the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּ֛וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn יֶֽחֶזְק֥וּ are too strong ye·ḥez·qū מִמְּךָ֖ for you , mim·mə·ḵā וְהוֹשַׁעְתִּֽיךָ׃ then I will come to your rescue . wə·hō·wō·ša‘·tî·ḵā 1 Chronicles 19:13 חֲזַ֤ק Be strong ḥă·zaq וְנִֽתְחַזְּקָה֙ and let us fight bravely wə·niṯ·ḥaz·zə·qāh בְּעַד־ for bə·‘aḏ- עַמֵּ֔נוּ our people ‘am·mê·nū וּבְעַ֖ד and for ū·ḇə·‘aḏ עָרֵ֣י the cities ‘ā·rê אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ of our God . ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū וַֽיהוָ֔ה May YHWH Yah·weh הַטּ֥וֹב do haṭ·ṭō·wḇ יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ what is good ya·‘ă·śeh בְּעֵינָ֖יו in His sight . ” bə·‘ê·nāw 1 Chronicles 19:14 יוֹאָ֜ב So Joab yō·w·’āḇ וְהָעָ֧ם and his troops wə·hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- עִמּ֛וֹ - ‘im·mōw וַיִּגַּ֨שׁ advanced way·yig·gaš לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה to fight lam·mil·ḥā·māh אֲרָ֖ם the Arameans , ’ă·rām וַיָּנ֖וּסוּ who fled way·yā·nū·sū מִפָּנָֽיו׃ before mip·pā·nāw
