וַיַּֽעַבְדֻ֑הוּ and became subject to him . way·ya·‘aḇ·ḏu·hū אֲרָ֔ם So the Arameans ’ă·rām וְלֹא־ were unwilling wə·lō- אָבָ֣ה . . . ’ā·ḇāh לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ to help lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנֵי־ the Ammonites bə·nê- עַמּ֖וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn עֽוֹד׃פ anymore . ‘ō·wḏ 1 Chronicles 20:1 וַיְהִ֡י - way·hî לְעֵת֩ In lə·‘êṯ תְּשׁוּבַ֨ת the spring tə·šū·ḇaṯ הַשָּׁנָ֜ה . . . , haš·šā·nāh לְעֵ֣ת׀ at the time when lə·‘êṯ הַמְּלָכִ֗ים kings ham·mə·lā·ḵîm צֵ֣את march out to war , ṣêṯ יוֹאָב֩ Joab yō·w·’āḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּנְהַ֣ג led out way·yin·haḡ חֵ֨יל the army ḥêl הַצָּבָ֜א . . . haṣ·ṣā·ḇā וַיַּשְׁחֵ֣ת׀ and ravaged way·yaš·ḥêṯ אֶ֣רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנֵֽי־ of the Ammonites bə·nê- עַמּ֗וֹן . . . . ‘am·mō·wn וַיָּבֹא֙ He came way·yā·ḇō רַבָּ֔ה to Rabbah rab·bāh וַיָּ֣צַר and besieged it , way·yā·ṣar אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וְדָוִ֖יד but David wə·ḏā·wîḏ יֹשֵׁ֣ב remained yō·šêḇ בִּירֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם in Jerusalem . bî·rū·šā·lim יוֹאָ֛ב And Joab yō·w·’āḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּ֥ךְ attacked way·yaḵ רַבָּ֖ה Rabbah rab·bāh וַיֶּֽהֶרְסֶֽהָ׃ and demolished it . way·ye·her·se·hā 1 Chronicles 20:2 דָּוִ֣יד Then David dā·wîḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּקַּ֣ח took way·yiq·qaḥ עֲטֶֽרֶת־ the crown ‘ă·ṭe·reṯ- מֵעַ֨ל from mê·‘al רֹאשׁ֜וֹ the head rō·šōw מַלְכָּם֩ of their king . mal·kām וַֽיִּמְצָאָ֣הּ׀ It was found way·yim·ṣā·’āh מִשְׁקַ֣ל to weigh miš·qal כִּכַּר־ a talent kik·kar- זָהָ֗ב of gold zā·hāḇ וּבָהּ֙ and was set ū·ḇāh יְקָרָ֔ה with precious yə·qā·rāh אֶ֣בֶן stones , ’e·ḇen וַתְּהִ֖י and it was wat·tə·hî עַל־ placed on ‘al- דָּוִ֑יד David’s dā·wîḏ רֹ֣אשׁ head . rōš הוֹצִ֖יא And David took hō·w·ṣî הַרְבֵּ֥ה a great amount har·bêh מְאֹֽד׃ . . . mə·’ōḏ וּשְׁלַ֥ל of plunder ū·šə·lal הָעִ֛יר from the city . hā·‘îr 1 Chronicles 20:3 וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הוֹצִ֗יא [David] brought out hō·w·ṣî הָעָ֨ם the people hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ who [were] ’ă·šer- בָּ֜הּ there bāh וַיָּ֨שַׂר and put [them to work] way·yā·śar בַּמְּגֵרָ֜ה with saws , bam·mə·ḡê·rāh הַבַּרְזֶל֙ iron hab·bar·zel וּבַחֲרִיצֵ֤י picks , ū·ḇa·ḥă·rî·ṣê וּבַמְּגֵר֔וֹת and axes . ū·ḇam·mə·ḡê·rō·wṯ דָוִ֔יד And [he] ḏā·wîḏ יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה did ya·‘ă·śeh וְכֵן֙ the same wə·ḵên לְכֹ֖ל to all lə·ḵōl בְנֵי־ the Ammonite ḇə·nê- עַמּ֑וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn עָרֵ֣י cities . ‘ā·rê דָּוִ֛יד Then [David] dā·wîḏ וְכָל־ and all wə·ḵāl הָעָ֖ם his troops hā·‘ām וַיָּ֧שָׁב returned way·yā·šāḇ יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃פ to Jerusalem . yə·rū·šā·lim 1 Chronicles 20:4 וַיְהִי֙ Some time later way·hî אַחֲרֵיכֵ֔ן . . . , ’a·ḥă·rê·ḵên מִלְחָמָ֛ה war mil·ḥā·māh וַתַּעֲמֹ֧ד broke out wat·ta·‘ă·mōḏ עִם־ with ‘im-
