בַּ֠עֲבוּר vvv ba·‘ă·ḇūr לַחְקֹ֨ר to explore laḥ·qōr הָאָ֔רֶץ the land , hā·’ā·reṣ וּלְרַגֵּל֙ spy it out , ū·lə·rag·gêl וְלַהֲפֹ֤ךְ and overthrow it ? ” wə·la·hă·p̄ōḵ 1 Chronicles 19:4 חָנ֜וּן So Hanun ḥā·nūn אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּקַּ֨ח took way·yiq·qaḥ דָוִיד֙ David’s ḏā·wîḏ עַבְדֵ֤י servants , ‘aḇ·ḏê וַֽיְגַלְּחֵ֔ם shaved [their beards] , way·ḡal·lə·ḥêm וַיִּכְרֹ֧ת cut off way·yiḵ·rōṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מַדְוֵיהֶ֛ם their garments maḏ·wê·hem בַּחֵ֖צִי vvv ba·ḥê·ṣî עַד־ at ‘aḏ- הַמִּפְשָׂעָ֑ה the hips , ham·mip̄·śā·‘āh וַֽיְשַׁלְּחֵֽם׃ and sent them away . way·šal·lə·ḥêm 1 Chronicles 19:5 וַיֵּלְכוּ֩ When [someone] came way·yê·lə·ḵū וַיַּגִּ֨ידוּ and told way·yag·gî·ḏū לְדָוִ֤יד David lə·ḏā·wîḏ עַל־ about ‘al- הָֽאֲנָשִׁים֙ his men , hā·’ă·nā·šîm וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח he sent way·yiš·laḥ לִקְרָאתָ֔ם messengers to meet them , liq·rā·ṯām כִּי־ since kî- הָאֲנָשִׁ֖ים the men hā·’ă·nā·šîm הָי֥וּ had been hā·yū מְאֹ֑ד thoroughly mə·’ōḏ נִכְלָמִ֣ים humiliated . niḵ·lā·mîm הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ The king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר told them , way·yō·mer שְׁב֣וּ “ Stay šə·ḇū בִֽירֵח֔וֹ in Jericho ḇî·rê·ḥōw עַ֛ד until ‘aḏ אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- זְקַנְכֶ֖ם your beards zə·qan·ḵem יְצַמַּ֥ח have grown back , yə·ṣam·maḥ וְשַׁבְתֶּֽם׃ and [then] return . ” wə·šaḇ·tem 1 Chronicles 19:6 בְּנֵ֣י When the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּ֔וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn כִּ֥י . . . kî וַיִּרְאוּ֙ realized that way·yir·’ū הִֽתְבָּאֲשׁ֖וּ they had become a stench hiṯ·bā·’ă·šū עִם־ to ‘im- דָּוִ֑יד David , dā·wîḏ חָ֠נוּן Hanun ḥā·nūn וּבְנֵ֨י and the Ammonites ū·ḇə·nê עַמּ֜וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent way·yiš·laḥ אֶ֣לֶף a thousand ’e·lep̄ כִּכַּר־ talents kik·kar- כֶּ֗סֶף of silver ke·sep̄ לִשְׂכֹּ֣ר to hire liś·kōr לָ֠הֶם for themselves lā·hem רֶ֖כֶב chariots re·ḵeḇ וּפָרָשִֽׁים׃ and horsemen ū·p̄ā·rā·šîm מִן־ from min- אֲרַ֨ם vvv ’ă·ram נַהֲרַ֜יִם Aram-naharaim , na·hă·ra·yim וּמִן־ . . . ū·min- אֲרַ֤ם . . . ’ă·ram מַעֲכָה֙ Aram-maacah , ma·‘ă·ḵāh וּמִצּוֹבָ֔ה and Zobah . ū·miṣ·ṣō·w·ḇāh 1 Chronicles 19:7 וַיִּשְׂכְּר֣וּ So they hired way·yiś·kə·rū לָהֶ֡ם for themselves lā·hem שְׁנַיִם֩ thirty-two šə·na·yim וּשְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים . . . ū·šə·lō·šîm אֶ֜לֶף thousand ’e·lep̄ רֶ֗כֶב chariots , re·ḵeḇ וְאֶת־ as well as wə·’eṯ- מֶ֤לֶךְ the king me·leḵ מַעֲכָה֙ of Maacah ma·‘ă·ḵāh וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- עַמּ֔וֹ with his troops , ‘am·mōw וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ who came way·yā·ḇō·’ū וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ and camped way·ya·ḥă·nū לִפְנֵ֣י near lip̄·nê מֵידְבָ֑א Medeba mê·ḏə·ḇā וּבְנֵ֣י while the Ammonites ū·ḇə·nê עַמּ֗וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn מֵעָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם came from their cities mê·‘ā·rê·hem וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ . . . way·yā·ḇō·’ū נֶאֶסְפוּ֙ and marched out ne·’es·p̄ū לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃פ for battle . lam·mil·ḥå̄·må̄h
