הַבּ֤וֹר pit hab·bō·wr בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר in the wilderness , bam·miḏ·bār אַל־ but do not ’al- תִּשְׁלְחוּ־ lay tiš·lə·ḥū- וְיָ֖ד a hand wə·yāḏ ב֑וֹ on him . ” ḇōw רְאוּבֵן֮ Reuben rə·’ū·ḇên אַל־ . . . ’al- וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said this way·yō·mer אֲלֵהֶ֣ם׀ . . . ’ă·lê·hem לְמַ֗עַן so that lə·ma·‘an הַצִּ֤יל he could rescue haṣ·ṣîl אֹתוֹ֙ [Joseph] ’ō·ṯōw מִיָּדָ֔ם from their hands mî·yā·ḏām לַהֲשִׁיב֖וֹ and return him la·hă·šî·ḇōw אֶל־ to ’el- אָבִֽיו׃ his father . ’ā·ḇîw Genesis 37:23 וַֽיְהִ֕י So way·hî כַּֽאֲשֶׁר־ when ka·’ă·šer- יוֹסֵ֖ף Joseph yō·w·sêp̄ בָּ֥א came bā אֶל־ to ’el- אֶחָ֑יו his brothers , ’e·ḥāw וַיַּפְשִׁ֤יטוּ they stripped way·yap̄·šî·ṭū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יוֹסֵף֙ [him] yō·w·sêp̄ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כֻּתָּנְתּ֔וֹ of his robe — kut·tā·nə·tōw אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כְּתֹ֥נֶת the robe kə·ṯō·neṯ הַפַּסִּ֖ים of many colors hap·pas·sîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer עָלָֽיו׃ he was wearing — ‘ā·lāw Genesis 37:24 וַיִּ֨קָּחֻ֔הוּ and they took him way·yiq·qā·ḥu·hū וַיַּשְׁלִ֥כוּ and threw way·yaš·li·ḵū אֹת֖וֹ him ’ō·ṯōw הַבֹּ֑רָה into the pit . hab·bō·rāh וְהַבּ֣וֹר Now the pit wə·hab·bō·wr רֵ֔ק was empty , rêq אֵ֥ין with no ’ên מָֽיִם׃ water mā·yim בּ֖וֹ in it . bōw Genesis 37:25 וַיֵּשְׁבוּ֮ And as they sat down way·yê·šə·ḇū לֶֽאֱכָל־ to eat le·’ĕ·ḵāl- לֶחֶם֒ a meal , le·ḥem וַיִּשְׂא֤וּ they looked up way·yiś·’ū עֵֽינֵיהֶם֙ . . . ‘ê·nê·hem וַיִּרְא֔וּ . . . way·yir·’ū וְהִנֵּה֙ and saw wə·hin·nêh אֹרְחַ֣ת a caravan ’ō·rə·ḥaṯ יִשְׁמְעֵאלִ֔ים of Ishmaelites yiš·mə·‘ê·lîm בָּאָ֖ה coming bā·’āh מִגִּלְעָ֑ד from Gilead . mig·gil·‘āḏ וּגְמַלֵּיהֶ֣ם Their camels ū·ḡə·mal·lê·hem נֹֽשְׂאִ֗ים were carrying nō·śə·’îm נְכֹאת֙ spices , nə·ḵōṯ וּצְרִ֣י balm , ū·ṣə·rî וָלֹ֔ט and myrrh wā·lōṭ הוֹלְכִ֖ים on their way hō·wl·ḵîm לְהוֹרִ֥יד down lə·hō·w·rîḏ מִצְרָֽיְמָה׃ to Egypt . miṣ·rā·yə·māh Genesis 37:26 יְהוּדָ֖ה Then Judah yə·hū·ḏāh וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- אֶחָ֑יו his brothers , ’e·ḥāw מַה־ “ What mah- בֶּ֗צַע profit will we gain be·ṣa‘ כִּ֤י if kî נַהֲרֹג֙ we kill na·hă·rōḡ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אָחִ֔ינוּ our brother ’ā·ḥî·nū וְכִסִּ֖ינוּ and cover up wə·ḵis·sî·nū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דָּמֽוֹ׃ his blood ? dā·mōw Genesis 37:27 לְכ֞וּ Come , lə·ḵū וְנִמְכְּרֶ֣נּוּ let us sell him wə·nim·kə·ren·nū לַיִּשְׁמְעֵאלִ֗ים to the Ishmaelites lay·yiš·mə·‘ê·lîm אַל־ and not ’al- תְּהִי־ lay tə·hî- וְיָדֵ֙נוּ֙ a hand wə·yā·ḏê·nū ב֔וֹ on him ; ḇōw כִּֽי־ for kî- ה֑וּא he hū אָחִ֥ינוּ is our brother , ’ā·ḥî·nū בְשָׂרֵ֖נוּ our own flesh . ” ḇə·śā·rê·nū
