וַיָּ֣שֶׂם steadily way·yā·śem עַד־ [on him] until ‘aḏ- בֹּ֑שׁ Hazael became uncomfortable . bōš אִ֥ישׁ Then the man ’îš הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm וַיֵּ֖בְךְּ began to weep . way·yê·ḇək 2 Kings 8:12 מַדּ֖וּעַ “ Why mad·dū·a‘ אֲדֹנִ֣י is my lord ’ă·ḏō·nî בֹכֶ֑ה weeping ? ” ḇō·ḵeh וַיֹּ֣אמֶר asked way·yō·mer חֲזָאֵ֔ל Hazael . ḥă·zā·’êl כִּֽי־ “ Because kî- יָדַ֡עְתִּי I know yā·ḏa‘·tî אֵ֣ת - ’êṯ אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- רָעָ֗ה the evil rā·‘āh תַּעֲשֶׂה֩ you will do ta·‘ă·śeh לִבְנֵ֨י vvv liḇ·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל to the Israelites , ” yiś·rā·’êl וַיֹּ֡אמֶר [Elisha] replied . way·yō·mer תְּשַׁלַּ֤ח “ You will set tə·šal·laḥ בָּאֵשׁ֙ fire bā·’êš מִבְצְרֵיהֶ֞ם to their fortresses , miḇ·ṣə·rê·hem תַּהֲרֹ֔ג kill ta·hă·rōḡ וּבַחֻֽרֵיהֶם֙ their young men ū·ḇa·ḥu·rê·hem בַּחֶ֣רֶב with the sword , ba·ḥe·reḇ וְעֹלְלֵיהֶ֣ם dash their little ones wə·‘ō·lə·lê·hem תְּרַטֵּ֔שׁ to pieces , tə·raṭ·ṭêš תְּבַקֵּֽעַ׃ and rip open tə·ḇaq·qê·a‘ וְהָרֹתֵיהֶ֖ם their pregnant women . ” wə·hā·rō·ṯê·hem 2 Kings 8:13 כִּ֣י “ But kî מָ֤ה how {could} māh עַבְדְּךָ֙ your servant , ‘aḇ·də·ḵā הַכֶּ֔לֶב a mere dog , hak·ke·leḇ כִּ֣י - kî יַעֲשֶׂ֔ה do ya·‘ă·śeh הַזֶּ֑ה such haz·zeh הַגָּד֖וֹל a monstrous hag·gā·ḏō·wl הַדָּבָ֥ר thing ? ” had·dā·ḇār וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said way·yō·mer חֲזָהאֵ֔ל Hazael . ḥă·zā·h·’êl אֱלִישָׁ֔ע And Elisha ’ĕ·lî·šā‘ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר answered , way·yō·mer יְהוָ֛ה “ YHWH Yah·weh הִרְאַ֧נִי has shown me hir·’a·nî אֹתְךָ֖ that you [will be] ’ō·ṯə·ḵā מֶ֥לֶךְ king me·leḵ עַל־ over ‘al- אֲרָֽם׃ Aram . ” ’ă·rām 2 Kings 8:14 וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ׀ So Hazael left way·yê·leḵ מֵאֵ֣ת mê·’êṯ אֱלִישָׁ֗ע Elisha ’ĕ·lî·šā‘ וַיָּבֹא֙ and went way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ to ’el- אֲדֹנָ֔יו his master , ’ă·ḏō·nāw וַיֹּ֣אמֶר who asked way·yō·mer ל֔וֹ him , lōw מָֽה־ “ What māh- אֱלִישָׁ֑ע did Elisha ’ĕ·lî·šā‘ אָמַ֥ר say ’ā·mar לְךָ֖ to you ? ” lə·ḵā וַיֹּ֕אמֶר And he replied , way·yō·mer אָ֥מַר “ He told me ’ā·mar לִ֖י [that] lî חָיֹ֥ה vvv ḥā·yōh תִחְיֶֽה׃ you would surely recover . ” ṯiḥ·yeh 2 Kings 8:15 וַיְהִ֣י But way·hî מִֽמָּחֳרָ֗ת the next day mim·mā·ḥo·rāṯ וַיִּקַּ֤ח Hazael took way·yiq·qaḥ הַמַּכְבֵּר֙ a thick cloth , ham·maḵ·bêr וַיִּטְבֹּ֣ל dipped way·yiṭ·bōl בַּמַּ֔יִם it in water , bam·ma·yim וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ and spread way·yip̄·rōś עַל־ it over ‘al- פָּנָ֖יו the king’s face . pā·nāw וַיָּמֹ֑ת So Ben-hadad died , way·yā·mōṯ חֲזָהאֵ֖ל and Hazael ḥă·zā·h·’êl וַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְ reigned way·yim·lōḵ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ in his place . taḥ·tāw 2 Kings 8:16 חָמֵ֗שׁ In the fifth ḥā·mêš וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת year ū·ḇiš·naṯ מֶ֣לֶךְ of the reign me·leḵ לְיוֹרָ֤ם of Joram lə·yō·w·rām בֶּן־ son ben- אַחְאָב֙ of Ahab ’aḥ·’āḇ
