רָעָ֤ב famine rā·‘āḇ בְּשֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן in Samaria . bə·šō·mə·rō·wn וְהִנֵּ֖ה Indeed , wə·hin·nêh צָרִ֣ים they besieged ṣā·rîm עָלֶ֑יהָ [the city] ‘ā·le·hā עַ֣ד so long that ‘aḏ חֲמוֹר֙ a donkey’s ḥă·mō·wr רֹאשׁ־ head rōš- הֱי֤וֹת sold hĕ·yō·wṯ בִּשְׁמֹנִ֣ים for eighty [shekels] biš·mō·nîm כֶּ֔סֶף of silver , ke·sep̄ וְרֹ֛בַע and a quarter wə·rō·ḇa‘ הַקַּ֥ב cab haq·qaḇ חֲרֵייוֹנִים of dove’s dung ḥă·rē·yō·nīm בַּחֲמִשָּׁה־ sold for five [shekels] ba·ḥă·miš·šāh- כָֽסֶף׃ of silver . ḵā·sep̄ 2 Kings 6:26 וַֽיְהִי֙ - way·hî מֶ֣לֶךְ As the king me·leḵ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl עֹבֵ֖ר was passing by ‘ō·ḇêr עַל־ on ‘al- הַחֹמָ֑ה the wall , ha·ḥō·māh וְאִשָּׁ֗ה a woman wə·’iš·šāh צָעֲקָ֤ה cried out ṣā·‘ă·qāh אֵלָיו֙ to him , ’ê·lāw לֵאמֹ֔ר . . . lê·mōr הוֹשִׁ֖יעָה “ Help me , hō·wō·šî·‘āh אֲדֹנִ֥י my lord ’ă·ḏō·nî הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ the king ! ” ham·me·leḵ 2 Kings 6:27 וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ He answered , way·yō·mer יְהוָ֔ה “ If YHWH Yah·weh אַל־ does not ’al- יוֹשִׁעֵ֣ךְ help you , yō·wō·ši·‘êḵ מֵאַ֖יִן where mê·’a·yin אֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֑ךְ can I find help for you ? ’ō·wō·šî·‘êḵ הֲמִן־ From hă·min- הַגֹּ֖רֶן the threshing floor hag·gō·ren א֥וֹ or ’ōw מִן־ . . . min- הַיָּֽקֶב׃ the winepress ? ” hay·yā·qeḇ 2 Kings 6:28 הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ Then the king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ asked way·yō·mer- לָ֥הּ her , lāh מַה־ “ What mah- לָּ֑ךְ is the matter ? ” lāḵ וַתֹּ֗אמֶר And she answered , wat·tō·mer הַזֹּ֜את “ This haz·zōṯ הָאִשָּׁ֨ה woman hā·’iš·šāh אָמְרָ֣ה said ’ā·mə·rāh אֵלַ֗י to me , ’ê·lay תְּנִ֤י ‘ Give up tə·nî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנֵךְ֙ your son , bə·nêḵ וְנֹאכְלֶ֣נּוּ that we may eat him wə·nō·ḵə·len·nū הַיּ֔וֹם . . . , hay·yō·wm וְאֶת־ and wə·’eṯ- מָחָֽר׃ tomorrow mā·ḥār נֹאכַ֥ל we will eat nō·ḵal בְּנִ֖י my son . ’ bə·nî 2 Kings 6:29 וַנְּבַשֵּׁ֥ל So we boiled wan·nə·ḇaš·šêl אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנִ֖י my son bə·nî וַנֹּֽאכְלֵ֑הוּ and ate him , wan·nō·ḵə·lê·hū הָאַחֵ֗ר and the next hā·’a·ḥêr בַּיּ֣וֹם day bay·yō·wm וָאֹמַ֨ר I said wā·’ō·mar אֵלֶ֜יהָ to her , ’ê·le·hā תְּנִ֤י ‘ Give up tə·nî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנֵךְ֙ your son , bə·nêḵ וְנֹ֣אכְלֶ֔נּוּ that we may eat him . ’ wə·nō·ḵə·len·nū וַתַּחְבִּ֖א But she had hidden wat·taḥ·bi אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנָֽהּ׃ her son . ” bə·nāh 2 Kings 6:30 וַיְהִי֩ - way·hî הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ When the king ham·me·leḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ heard ḵiš·mō·a‘ דִּבְרֵ֤י the words diḇ·rê הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ of the woman , hā·’iš·šāh וַיִּקְרַ֣ע he tore way·yiq·ra‘ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּגָדָ֔יו his clothes . bə·ḡā·ḏāw וְה֖וּא And as he wə·hū עֹבֵ֣ר passed by ‘ō·ḇêr
