הַנֵּכָר֙ the foreign han·nê·ḵār אֱלֹהֵ֤י gods ’ĕ·lō·hê אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer בְּתֹכְכֶ֔ם are among you . bə·ṯō·ḵə·ḵem וְהִֽטַּהֲר֔וּ Purify yourselves wə·hiṭ·ṭa·hă·rū וְהַחֲלִ֖יפוּ and change wə·ha·ḥă·lî·p̄ū שִׂמְלֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ your garments . śim·lō·ṯê·ḵem Genesis 35:3 וְנָק֥וּמָה Then let us arise wə·nā·qū·māh וְנַעֲלֶ֖ה and go wə·na·‘ă·leh בֵּֽית־ to bêṯ- אֵ֑ל Bethel . ’êl וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ I will build wə·’e·‘ĕ·śeh- מִזְבֵּ֗חַ an altar miz·bê·aḥ שָּׁ֣ם there šām לָאֵ֞ל to God , lā·’êl הָעֹנֶ֤ה who answered hā·‘ō·neh אֹתִי֙ me ’ō·ṯî בְּי֣וֹם in my day bə·yō·wm צָֽרָתִ֔י of distress . ṣā·rā·ṯî וַיְהִי֙ He has been way·hî עִמָּדִ֔י with me ‘im·mā·ḏî בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ wherever bad·de·reḵ אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer הָלָֽכְתִּי׃ I have gone . ” hā·lā·ḵə·tî Genesis 35:4 וַיִּתְּנ֣וּ So they gave way·yit·tə·nū אֶֽל־ . . . ’el- יַעֲקֹ֗ב Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ אֵ֣ת - ’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֣ר their ’ă·šer בְּיָדָ֔ם . . . bə·yā·ḏām וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הַנֵּכָר֙ foreign han·nê·ḵār אֱלֹהֵ֤י gods ’ĕ·lō·hê הַנְּזָמִ֖ים and [all their] earrings han·nə·zā·mîm אֲשֶׁ֣ר - , ’ă·šer בְּאָזְנֵיהֶ֑ם - bə·’ā·zə·nê·hem יַעֲקֹ֔ב and Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ וַיִּטְמֹ֤ן buried way·yiṭ·mōn אֹתָם֙ them ’ō·ṯām תַּ֥חַת under ta·ḥaṯ הָאֵלָ֖ה the oak hā·’ê·lāh אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer עִם־ near ‘im- שְׁכֶֽם׃ Shechem . šə·ḵem Genesis 35:5 וַיִּסָּ֑עוּ As they set out , way·yis·sā·‘ū חִתַּ֣ת a terror ḥit·taṯ אֱלֹהִ֗ים from God ’ĕ·lō·hîm וַיְהִ֣י׀ fell way·hî עַל־ over ‘al- אֲשֶׁר֙ - ’ă·šer סְבִיבֹ֣תֵיהֶ֔ם the surrounding sə·ḇî·ḇō·ṯê·hem הֶֽעָרִים֙ cities , he·‘ā·rîm וְלֹ֣א so that they did not wə·lō רָֽדְפ֔וּ pursue rā·ḏə·p̄ū אַחֲרֵ֖י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê יַעֲקֹֽב׃ Jacob’s ya·‘ă·qōḇ בְּנֵ֥י sons . bə·nê Genesis 35:6 יַעֲקֹ֜ב So Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ וְכָל־ and everyone wə·ḵāl הָעָ֥ם . . . hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- עִמּֽוֹ׃ with him ‘im·mōw וַיָּבֹ֨א arrived way·yā·ḇō ל֗וּזָה in Luz lū·zāh אֲשֶׁר֙ - ’ă·šer הִ֖וא (that is , hî בֵּֽית־ . . . bêṯ- אֵ֑ל Bethel) ’êl ה֖וּא . . . hū בְּאֶ֣רֶץ in the land bə·’e·reṣ כְּנַ֔עַן of Canaan . kə·na·‘an Genesis 35:7 שָׁם֙ There šām וַיִּ֤בֶן Jacob built way·yi·ḇen מִזְבֵּ֔חַ an altar , miz·bê·aḥ וַיִּקְרָא֙ and he called way·yiq·rā לַמָּק֔וֹם that place lam·mā·qō·wm אֵ֖ל vvv ’êl בֵּֽית־ vvv bêṯ- אֵ֑ל El-bethel , ’êl כִּ֣י because kî שָׁ֗ם it was there šām הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים that God hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm נִגְל֤וּ had revealed Himself niḡ·lū אֵלָיו֙ to [Jacob] ’ê·lāw
