אָבִ֖יו his father ’ā·ḇîw לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . lê·mōr חֲמ֥וֹר Hamor , ḥă·mō·wr קַֽח־ “ Get qaḥ- לִ֛י me lî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַזֹּ֖את this haz·zōṯ הַיַּלְדָּ֥ה girl hay·yal·dāh לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ as a wife . ” lə·’iš·šāh Genesis 34:5 וְיַעֲקֹ֣ב Jacob wə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ שָׁמַ֗ע heard šā·ma‘ כִּ֤י that kî טִמֵּא֙ Shechem had defiled ṭim·mê אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בִתּ֔וֹ his daughter ḇit·tōw דִּינָ֣ה Dinah , dî·nāh וּבָנָ֛יו but since his sons ū·ḇā·nāw הָי֥וּ were hā·yū אֶת־ with ’eṯ- מִקְנֵ֖הוּ his livestock miq·nê·hū בַּשָּׂדֶ֑ה in the field , baś·śā·ḏeh יַעֲקֹ֖ב he ya·‘ă·qōḇ וְהֶחֱרִ֥שׁ remained silent [about it] wə·he·ḥĕ·riš עַד־ until ‘aḏ- בֹּאָֽם׃ they returned . bō·’ām Genesis 34:6 שְׁכֶ֖ם Meanwhile, Shechem’s šə·ḵem אֶֽל־ . . . ’el- אֲבִֽי־ father ’ă·ḇî- חֲמ֥וֹר Hamor ḥă·mō·wr וַיֵּצֵ֛א came way·yê·ṣê לְדַבֵּ֖ר to speak lə·ḏab·bêr אִתּֽוֹ׃ with ’it·tōw יַעֲקֹ֑ב Jacob . ya·‘ă·qōḇ Genesis 34:7 יַעֲקֹ֜ב When Jacob’s ya·‘ă·qōḇ וּבְנֵ֨י sons ū·ḇə·nê כְּשָׁמְעָ֔ם heard what had happened , kə·šā·mə·‘ām בָּ֤אוּ they returned bā·’ū מִן־ from min- הַשָּׂדֶה֙ the field . haś·śā·ḏeh מְאֹ֑ד They were filled with mə·’ōḏ וַיִּֽתְעַצְּבוּ֙ grief way·yiṯ·‘aṣ·ṣə·ḇū הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים . . . hā·’ă·nā·šîm וַיִּ֥חַר and fury way·yi·ḥar לָהֶ֖ם , lā·hem כִּֽי־ because kî- עָשָׂ֣ה Shechem had committed ‘ā·śāh נְבָלָ֞ה an outrage nə·ḇā·lāh בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל in Israel ḇə·yiś·rā·’êl לִשְׁכַּב֙ by lying liš·kaḇ אֶת־ with ’eṯ- יַעֲקֹ֔ב Jacob’s ya·‘ă·qōḇ בַּֽת־ daughter — baṯ- וְכֵ֖ן a thing wə·ḵên לֹ֥א that should not lō יֵעָשֶֽׂה׃ be done . yê·‘ā·śeh Genesis 34:8 חֲמ֖וֹר But Hamor ḥă·mō·wr וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר said way·ḏab·bêr אִתָּ֣ם to them ’it·tām לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . , lê·mōr בְּנִ֗י “ My son bə·nî שְׁכֶ֣ם Shechem šə·ḵem חָֽשְׁקָ֤ה longs for ḥā·šə·qāh נַפְשׁוֹ֙ . . . nap̄·šōw בְּבִתְּכֶ֔ם your daughter . bə·ḇit·tə·ḵem נָ֥א Please nā תְּנ֨וּ give tə·nū אֹתָ֛הּ her ’ō·ṯāh ל֖וֹ to him lōw לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ as his wife . lə·’iš·šāh Genesis 34:9 וְהִֽתְחַתְּנ֖וּ Intermarry with us ; wə·hiṯ·ḥat·tə·nū אֹתָ֑נוּ . . . ’ō·ṯā·nū תִּתְּנוּ־ give tit·tə·nū- לָ֔נוּ us lā·nū וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- בְּנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ your daughters , bə·nō·ṯê·ḵem תִּקְח֥וּ and take tiq·ḥū בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ our daughters bə·nō·ṯê·nū לָכֶֽם׃ for yourselves . lā·ḵem Genesis 34:10 תֵּשֵׁ֑בוּ You may settle tê·šê·ḇū וְאִתָּ֖נוּ among us , wə·’it·tā·nū וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ and the land wə·hā·’ā·reṣ תִּהְיֶ֣ה {will} be tih·yeh
