וּמֵֽחֶלְבֵהֶ֑ן the best portions ū·mê·ḥel·ḇê·hen מִבְּכֹר֥וֹת of the firstborn mib·bə·ḵō·rō·wṯ צֹאנ֖וֹ of his flock . ṣō·nōw יְהוָ֔ה And YHWH Yah·weh וַיִּ֣שַׁע looked with favor way·yi·ša‘ אֶל־ on ’el- הֶ֖בֶל Abel he·ḇel וְאֶל־ and wə·’el- מִנְחָתֽוֹ׃ his offering , min·ḥā·ṯōw Genesis 4:5 וְאֶל־ but wə·’el- לֹ֣א He had no lō שָׁעָ֑ה regard šā·‘āh וְאֶל־ for wə·’el- קַ֥יִן Cain qa·yin מִנְחָת֖וֹ and his offering . min·ḥā·ṯōw לְקַ֙יִן֙ So Cain lə·qa·yin מְאֹ֔ד became very mə·’ōḏ וַיִּ֤חַר angry , way·yi·ḥar פָּנָֽיו׃ and his countenance pā·nāw וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ fell . way·yip·pə·lū Genesis 4:6 לָ֚מָּה “ Why lām·māh חָ֣רָה are you angry , ” ḥā·rāh וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said way·yō·mer יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh אֶל־ to ’el- קָ֑יִן Cain , qā·yin לָ֔ךְ “ - lāḵ וְלָ֖מָּה and why wə·lām·māh פָנֶֽיךָ׃ has your countenance p̄ā·ne·ḵā נָפְל֥וּ fallen ? nā·p̄ə·lū Genesis 4:7 אִם־ If ’im- תֵּיטִיב֙ you do what is right , tê·ṭîḇ הֲל֤וֹא {will} hă·lō·w לֹ֣א you not lō שְׂאֵ֔ת be accepted ? śə·’êṯ וְאִם֙ But if wə·’im תֵיטִ֔יב you refuse to do what is right , ṯê·ṭîḇ חַטָּ֣את sin ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ רֹבֵ֑ץ is crouching rō·ḇêṣ לַפֶּ֖תַח at your door ; lap·pe·ṯaḥ תְּשׁ֣וּקָת֔וֹ it desires tə·šū·qā·ṯōw וְאֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ you , wə·’ê·le·ḵā וְאַתָּ֖ה but you wə·’at·tāh תִּמְשָׁל־ must master tim·šāl- בּֽוֹ׃ it . ” bōw Genesis 4:8 קַ֖יִן Then Cain qa·yin וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- אָחִ֑יו his brother ’ā·ḥîw הֶ֣בֶל Abel, [“Let us go out to the field.”] he·ḇel וַֽיְהִי֙ And way·hî בִּהְיוֹתָ֣ם while they were bih·yō·w·ṯām בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה in the field , baś·śā·ḏeh קַ֛יִן Cain qa·yin וַיָּ֥קָם rose up way·yā·qām אֶל־ against ’el- אָחִ֖יו his brother ’ā·ḥîw הֶ֥בֶל Abel he·ḇel וַיַּהַרְגֵֽהוּ׃ and killed him . way·ya·har·ḡê·hū Genesis 4:9 יְהוָה֙ And YHWH Yah·weh וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- קַ֔יִן Cain , qa·yin אֵ֖י “ Where ’ê אָחִ֑יךָ [is] your brother ’ā·ḥî·ḵā הֶ֣בֶל Abel ? ” he·ḇel לֹ֣א “ I do not lō יָדַ֔עְתִּי know ! ” yā·ḏa‘·tî וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ he answered . way·yō·mer אָנֹֽכִי׃ “ {Am} I ’ā·nō·ḵî אָחִ֖י my brother’s ’ā·ḥî הֲשֹׁמֵ֥ר keeper ? ” hă·šō·mêr Genesis 4:10 מֶ֣ה “ What meh עָשִׂ֑יתָ have you done ? ” ‘ā·śî·ṯā וַיֹּ֖אמֶר replied [YHWH] . way·yō·mer ק֚וֹל “ The voice qō·wl אָחִ֔יךָ of your brother’s ’ā·ḥî·ḵā דְּמֵ֣י blood də·mê צֹעֲקִ֥ים cries out ṣō·‘ă·qîm אֵלַ֖י to Me ’ê·lay מִן־ from min- הָֽאֲדָמָֽה׃ the ground . hā·’ă·ḏā·māh
