2 Samuel 13:3 וּלְאַמְנ֣וֹן Now Amnon ū·lə·’am·nō·wn רֵ֗עַ had a friend rê·a‘ וּשְׁמוֹ֙ named ū·šə·mōw יֽוֹנָדָ֔ב Jonadab , yō·w·nā·ḏāḇ בֶּן־ the son ben- דָוִ֑ד of David’s ḏā·wiḏ אֲחִ֣י brother ’ă·ḥî שִׁמְעָ֖ה Shimeah . šim·‘āh וְי֣וֹנָדָ֔ב Jonadab wə·yō·w·nā·ḏāḇ מְאֹֽד׃ was a very mə·’ōḏ חָכָ֖ם shrewd ḥā·ḵām אִ֥ישׁ man , ’îš 2 Samuel 13:4 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר so he asked way·yō·mer ל֗וֹ [Amnon] , lōw מַדּ֣וּעַ “ Why mad·dū·a‘ אַ֠תָּה are you , ’at·tāh בֶּן־ the son ben- הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ of the king , ham·me·leḵ כָּ֣כָה so kā·ḵāh דַּ֤ל depressed dal בַּבֹּ֣קֶר morning bab·bō·qer בַּבֹּ֔קֶר after morning ? bab·bō·qer הֲל֖וֹא Won’t hă·lō·w תַּגִּ֣יד you tell tag·gîḏ לִ֑י me ? ” lî אַמְנ֔וֹן Amnon ’am·nō·wn אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיֹּ֤אמֶר replied way·yō·mer לוֹ֙ , lōw אֲנִ֥י “ I am ’ă·nî אֹהֵֽב׃ in love ’ō·hêḇ תָּמָ֗ר with Tamar , tā·mār אָחִ֖י my brother ’ā·ḥî אַבְשָׁלֹ֥ם Absalom’s ’aḇ·šā·lōm אֲח֛וֹת sister . ” ’ă·ḥō·wṯ 2 Samuel 13:5 יְה֣וֹנָדָ֔ב Jonadab yə·hō·w·nā·ḏāḇ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר told way·yō·mer לוֹ֙ him , lōw שְׁכַ֥ב “ Lie down šə·ḵaḇ עַל־ on ‘al- מִשְׁכָּבְךָ֖ your bed miš·kā·ḇə·ḵā וְהִתְחָ֑ל and pretend you are ill . wə·hiṯ·ḥāl אָבִ֣יךָ When your father ’ā·ḇî·ḵā וּבָ֧א comes ū·ḇā לִרְאוֹתֶ֗ךָ to see you , lir·’ō·w·ṯe·ḵā וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ say wə·’ā·mar·tā אֵלָ֡יו to him , ’ê·lāw נָא֩ ‘ Please nā אֲחוֹתִ֜י let my sister ’ă·ḥō·w·ṯî תָמָ֨ר Tamar ṯā·mār תָּ֣בֹא come tā·ḇō וְתַבְרֵ֣נִי and give me something wə·ṯaḇ·rê·nî לֶ֗חֶם to eat . le·ḥem וְעָשְׂתָ֤ה Let her prepare wə·‘ā·śə·ṯāh הַבִּרְיָ֔ה [it] hab·bir·yāh לְעֵינַי֙ in my sight lə·‘ê·nay אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לְמַ֙עַן֙ so lə·ma·‘an אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer אֶרְאֶ֔ה I may watch her ’er·’eh וְאָכַלְתִּ֖י and eat it wə·’ā·ḵal·tî מִיָּדָֽהּ׃ from her hand . ’” mî·yā·ḏāh 2 Samuel 13:6 אַמְנ֖וֹן So Amnon ’am·nō·wn וַיִּשְׁכַּ֥ב lay down way·yiš·kaḇ וַיִּתְחָ֑ל and feigned illness . way·yiṯ·ḥāl הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ When the king ham·me·leḵ וַיָּבֹ֨א came way·yā·ḇō לִרְאֹת֗וֹ to see him , lir·’ō·ṯōw אַמְנ֤וֹן Amnon ’am·nō·wn וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ - ’el- הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ - , ham·me·leḵ נָ֞א “ Please nā אֲחֹתִ֗י let my sister ’ă·ḥō·ṯî וּתְלַבֵּ֤ב . . . ū·ṯə·lab·bêḇ תָּמָ֣ר Tamar tā·mār תָּֽבוֹא־ come tā·ḇō·w- שְׁתֵּ֣י and make a couple šə·tê לְבִב֔וֹת of cakes lə·ḇi·ḇō·wṯ לְעֵינַי֙ in my sight , lə·‘ê·nay וְאֶבְרֶ֖ה so that I may eat wə·’eḇ·reh מִיָּדָֽהּ׃ from her hand . ” mî·yā·ḏāh 2 Samuel 13:7 דָּוִ֛ד Then David dā·wiḏ וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח sent way·yiš·laḥ אֶל־ word to ’el- תָּמָ֖ר Tamar tā·mār הַבַּ֣יְתָה at the palace hab·bay·ṯāh לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . : lê·mōr
