2 Samuel 12:23 וְעַתָּ֣ה׀ But now wə·‘at·tāh מֵ֗ת that he is dead , mêṯ לָ֤מָּה why lām·māh זֶּה֙ . . . zeh אֲנִ֣י should I ’ă·nî צָ֔ם fast ? ṣām הַאוּכַ֥ל Can ha·’ū·ḵal לַהֲשִׁיב֖וֹ I bring him back la·hă·šî·ḇōw ע֑וֹד again ? ‘ō·wḏ אֲנִי֙ I will ’ă·nî הֹלֵ֣ךְ go hō·lêḵ אֵלָ֔יו to him , ’ê·lāw וְה֖וּא but he wə·hū לֹֽא־ will not lō- יָשׁ֥וּב return yā·šūḇ אֵלָֽי׃ to me . ” ’ê·lāy 2 Samuel 12:24 דָּוִ֗ד Then David dā·wiḏ אֵ֚ת - ’êṯ בַּת־ baṯ- וַיְנַחֵ֣ם comforted way·na·ḥêm אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ his wife ’iš·tōw שֶׁ֣בַע Bathsheba , še·ḇa‘ וַיָּבֹ֥א and he went way·yā·ḇō אֵלֶ֖יהָ to her ’ê·le·hā וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב and lay way·yiš·kaḇ עִמָּ֑הּ with her . ‘im·māh וַתֵּ֣לֶד So she gave birth to wat·tê·leḏ בֵּ֗ן a son , bên וַיִּקְרָא and they way·yiq·rå̄ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- שְׁמוֹ֙ named him šə·mōw שְׁלֹמֹ֔ה Solomon . šə·lō·mōh וַיהוָ֖ה Now YHWH Yah·weh אֲהֵבֽוֹ׃ loved [the child] ’ă·hê·ḇōw 2 Samuel 12:25 וַיִּשְׁלַ֗ח and sent way·yiš·laḥ בְּיַד֙ [word] through bə·yaḏ נָתָ֣ן Nathan nā·ṯān הַנָּבִ֔יא the prophet han·nā·ḇî וַיִּקְרָ֥א to name him way·yiq·rā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- שְׁמ֖וֹ - šə·mōw יְדִ֣ידְיָ֑הּ Jedidiah yə·ḏî·ḏə·yāh בַּעֲב֖וּר because ba·‘ă·ḇūr יְהוָֽה׃פ YHWH [loved him] . Yah·weh 2 Samuel 12:26 יוֹאָ֔ב Meanwhile, Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיִּלָּ֣חֶם fought way·yil·lā·ḥem בְּרַבַּ֖ת against Rabbah bə·rab·baṯ בְּנֵ֣י of the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּ֑וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn וַיִּלְכֹּ֖ד and captured way·yil·kōḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַמְּלוּכָֽה׃ the royal ham·mə·lū·ḵāh עִ֥יר fortress . ‘îr 2 Samuel 12:27 יוֹאָ֛ב Then Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיִּשְׁלַ֥ח sent way·yiš·laḥ מַלְאָכִ֖ים messengers mal·’ā·ḵîm אֶל־ to ’el- דָּוִ֑ד David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ to say , way·yō·mer נִלְחַ֣מְתִּי “ I have fought nil·ḥam·tî בְרַבָּ֔ה against Rabbah ḇə·rab·bāh גַּם־ and have gam- לָכַ֖דְתִּי captured lā·ḵaḏ·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַמָּֽיִם׃ the water [supply] ham·mā·yim עִ֥יר of the city . ‘îr 2 Samuel 12:28 וְעַתָּ֗ה Now, therefore , wə·‘at·tāh אֱסֹף֙ assemble ’ĕ·sōp̄ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יֶ֣תֶר the rest ye·ṯer הָעָ֔ם of the troops , hā·‘ām וַחֲנֵ֥ה lay siege wa·ḥă·nêh עַל־ to ‘al- הָעִ֖יר the city , hā·‘îr וְלָכְדָ֑הּ and capture it . wə·lā·ḵə·ḏāh פֶּן־ Otherwise pen- אֲנִי֙ I ’ă·nî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֶלְכֹּ֤ד will capture ’el·kōḏ הָעִ֔יר the city , hā·‘îr וְנִקְרָ֥א and it will be named wə·niq·rā שְׁמִ֖י after me šə·mî עָלֶֽיהָ׃ . . . . ” ‘ā·le·hā
