הַמְּלָכִ֜ים the kings [who were] ham·mə·lā·ḵîm עַבְדֵ֣י subject ‘aḇ·ḏê הֲדַדְעֶ֗זֶר to Hadadezer hă·ḏaḏ·‘e·zer וַיִּרְא֨וּ saw way·yir·’ū כִּ֤י that kî נִגְּפוּ֙ they had been defeated nig·gə·p̄ū לִפְנֵ֣י by lip̄·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel , yiś·rā·’êl וַיַּשְׁלִ֥מוּ they made peace way·yaš·li·mū אֶת־ with ’eṯ- יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl וַיַּֽעַבְד֑וּם and became subject to them . way·ya·‘aḇ·ḏūm אֲרָ֔ם So the Arameans ’ă·rām וַיִּֽרְא֣וּ were afraid way·yir·’ū לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ to help lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘ בְּנֵ֥י the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּֽוֹן׃פ . . . ‘am·mō·wn ע֖וֹד anymore . ‘ō·wḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- 2 Samuel 11:1 וַיְהִי֩ - way·hî לִתְשׁוּבַ֨ת In the spring liṯ·šū·ḇaṯ הַשָּׁנָ֜ה . . . , haš·šā·nāh לְעֵ֣ת׀ at the time when lə·‘êṯ הַמַּלְאֿכִ֗ים kings ham·mal·ḵīm צֵ֣את march out to war , ṣêṯ דָּוִ֡ד David dā·wiḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent out way·yiš·laḥ יוֹאָב֩ Joab yō·w·’āḇ וְאֶת־ and wə·’eṯ- עֲבָדָ֨יו his servants ‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw עִמּ֜וֹ . . . ‘im·mōw וְאֶת־ with wə·’eṯ- כָּל־ the whole [army] kāl- יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel . yiś·rā·’êl וַיַּשְׁחִ֙תוּ֙ They destroyed way·yaš·ḥi·ṯū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּנֵ֣י the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּ֔וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn וַיָּצֻ֖רוּ and besieged way·yā·ṣu·rū עַל־ . . . ‘al- רַבָּ֑ה Rabbah , rab·bāh וְדָוִ֖ד but David wə·ḏā·wiḏ יוֹשֵׁ֥ב remained yō·wō·šêḇ בִּירוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ס in Jerusalem . bî·rū·šā·lim 2 Samuel 11:2 וַיְהִ֣י׀ - way·hî לְעֵ֣ת - lə·‘êṯ הָעֶ֗רֶב One evening hā·‘e·reḇ דָּוִ֜ד David dā·wiḏ וַיָּ֨קָם got up way·yā·qām מֵעַ֤ל from mê·‘al מִשְׁכָּבוֹ֙ his bed miš·kā·ḇōw וַיִּתְהַלֵּךְ֙ and strolled around way·yiṯ·hal·lêḵ עַל־ on ‘al- גַּ֣ג the roof gaḡ בֵּית־ of the palace bêṯ- הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ . . . . ham·me·leḵ מֵעַ֣ל And from mê·‘al הַגָּ֑ג the roof hag·gāḡ וַיַּ֥רְא he saw way·yar אִשָּׁ֛ה a woman ’iš·šāh רֹחֶ֖צֶת bathing — rō·ḥe·ṣeṯ מְאֹֽד׃ a very mə·’ōḏ טוֹבַ֥ת beautiful ṭō·w·ḇaṯ מַרְאֶ֖ה . . . mar·’eh וְהָ֣אִשָּׁ֔ה woman . wə·hā·’iš·šāh 2 Samuel 11:3 דָּוִ֔ד So David dā·wiḏ וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent way·yiš·laḥ וַיִּדְרֹ֖שׁ and inquired way·yiḏ·rōš לָֽאִשָּׁ֑ה about the woman , lā·’iš·šāh וַיֹּ֗אמֶר and he was told , way·yō·mer הֲלוֹא־ . . . hă·lō·w- זֹאת֙ “ This zōṯ בַּת־ vvv baṯ- שֶׁ֣בַע is Bathsheba , še·ḇa‘ בַּת־ the daughter baṯ- אֱלִיעָ֔ם of Eliam ’ĕ·lî·‘ām אֵ֖שֶׁת and the wife ’ê·šeṯ אוּרִיָּ֥ה of Uriah ’ū·rî·yāh הַחִתִּֽי׃ the Hittite . ” ha·ḥit·tî 2 Samuel 11:4 דָּוִ֨ד Then David dā·wiḏ וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ sent way·yiš·laḥ מַלְאָכִ֜ים messengers mal·’ā·ḵîm וַיִּקָּחֶ֗הָ to get her , way·yiq·qā·ḥe·hā וַתָּב֤וֹא and when she came wat·tā·ḇō·w אֵלָיו֙ to him , ’ê·lāw וַיִּשְׁכַּ֣ב he slept way·yiš·kaḇ עִמָּ֔הּ with her . ‘im·māh
