וַיִּשְׁלַח֙ sent way·yiš·laḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יוֹאָ֔ב Joab yō·w·’āḇ וְאֵ֥ת and wə·’êṯ כָּל־ the entire kāl- הַצָּבָ֖א army haṣ·ṣā·ḇā הַגִּבֹּרִֽים׃ of mighty men . hag·gib·bō·rîm 2 Samuel 10:8 בְּנֵ֣י The Ammonites bə·nê עַמּ֔וֹן . . . ‘am·mō·wn וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙ marched out way·yê·ṣə·’ū וַיַּעַרְכ֥וּ and arrayed themselves way·ya·‘ar·ḵū מִלְחָמָ֖ה for battle mil·ḥā·māh פֶּ֣תַח at the entrance pe·ṯaḥ הַשָּׁ֑עַר of the city gate , haš·šā·‘ar וַאֲרַ֨ם while the Arameans wa·’ă·ram צוֹבָ֤א of Zobah ṣō·w·ḇā וּרְחוֹב֙ and Rehob ū·rə·ḥō·wḇ וְאִֽישׁ־ and the men wə·’îš- ט֣וֹב of Tob ṭō·wḇ וּמַֽעֲכָ֔ה and Maacah ū·ma·‘ă·ḵāh לְבַדָּ֖ם were by themselves lə·ḇad·dām בַּשָּׂדֶֽה׃ in the open country . baś·śā·ḏeh 2 Samuel 10:9 יוֹאָ֗ב When Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיַּ֣רְא saw way·yar כִּֽי־ vvv kî- הָיְתָ֤ה vvv hā·yə·ṯāh אֵלָיו֙ vvv ’ê·lāw הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה the battle lines ham·mil·ḥā·māh מִפָּנִ֖ים before him mip·pā·nîm פְּנֵ֣י - pə·nê וּמֵֽאָח֑וֹר and behind him , ū·mê·’ā·ḥō·wr וַיִּבְחַ֗ר he selected way·yiḇ·ḥar מִכֹּל֙ some of mik·kōl בְּחוּרֵ֣י the best bə·ḥū·rê בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל men of Israel bə·yiś·rå̄·ʾēl וַֽיַּעֲרֹ֖ךְ and arrayed them way·ya·‘ă·rōḵ לִקְרַ֥את against liq·raṯ אֲרָֽם׃ the Arameans . ’ă·rām 2 Samuel 10:10 וְאֵת֙ And wə·’êṯ נָתַ֕ן he placed nā·ṯan יֶ֣תֶר the rest ye·ṯer הָעָ֔ם of the forces hā·‘ām בְּיַ֖ד under the command bə·yaḏ אָחִ֑יו of his brother ’ā·ḥîw אַבְשַׁ֣י Abishai , ’aḇ·šay וַֽיַּעֲרֹ֕ךְ who arrayed them way·ya·‘ă·rōḵ לִקְרַ֖את against liq·raṯ בְּנֵ֥י the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּֽוֹן׃ . . . . ‘am·mō·wn 2 Samuel 10:11 אִם־ “ If ’im- אֲרָם֙ the Arameans ’ă·rām תֶּחֱזַ֤ק are too strong te·ḥĕ·zaq מִמֶּ֔נִּי for me , ” mim·men·nî וַיֹּ֗אמֶר said Joab , way·yō·mer וְהָיִ֥תָה “ then you will come wə·hā·yi·ṯāh לִֽישׁוּעָ֑ה to my rescue lî·šū·‘āh לִּ֖י . . . . lî וְאִם־ And if wə·’im- בְּנֵ֤י the Ammonites bə·nê עַמּוֹן֙ . . . ‘am·mō·wn יֶחֱזְק֣וּ are too strong ye·ḥĕz·qū מִמְּךָ֔ for you , mim·mə·ḵā וְהָלַכְתִּ֖י then I will come wə·hā·laḵ·tî לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַֽ to your rescue lə·hō·wō·šî·a‘ לָֽךְ׃ . . . . lāḵ 2 Samuel 10:12 חֲזַ֤ק Be strong ḥă·zaq וְנִתְחַזַּק֙ and let us fight bravely wə·niṯ·ḥaz·zaq בְּעַד־ for bə·‘aḏ- עַמֵּ֔נוּ our people ‘am·mê·nū וּבְעַ֖ד and for ū·ḇə·‘aḏ עָרֵ֣י the cities ‘ā·rê אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ of our God . ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū וַֽיהוָ֔ה May YHWH Yah·weh יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה do ya·‘ă·śeh הַטּ֖וֹב what is good haṭ·ṭō·wḇ בְּעֵינָֽיו׃ in His sight . ” bə·‘ê·nāw 2 Samuel 10:13 יוֹאָ֗ב So Joab yō·w·’āḇ וְהָעָם֙ and his troops wə·hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer עִמּ֔וֹ - ‘im·mōw וַיִּגַּ֣שׁ advanced way·yig·gaš לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה to fight lam·mil·ḥā·māh
