בְּכָל־ Whenever bə·ḵāl הַמְקֻשָּׁרוֹת֒ the stronger females ham·quš·šā·rō·wṯ הַצֹּ֣אן of the flock haṣ·ṣōn יַחֵם֮ were in heat , ya·ḥêm יַעֲקֹ֧ב Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וְשָׂ֨ם would place wə·śām הַמַּקְל֛וֹת the branches ham·maq·lō·wṯ בָּרֳהָטִ֑ים in the troughs , bā·ro·hā·ṭîm לְעֵינֵ֥י in full view lə·‘ê·nê הַצֹּ֖אן of the animals , haṣ·ṣōn לְיַחְמֵ֖נָּה so that they would breed lə·yaḥ·mên·nāh בַּמַּקְלֽוֹת׃ in front of the branches . bam·maq·lō·wṯ Genesis 30:42 הַצֹּ֖אן But if the animals haṣ·ṣōn וּבְהַעֲטִ֥יף were weak , ū·ḇə·ha·‘ă·ṭîp̄ לֹ֣א he did not lō יָשִׂ֑ים set out the branches . yā·śîm הָעֲטֻפִים֙ So the weaker animals hā·‘ă·ṭu·p̄îm וְהָיָ֤ה went to wə·hā·yāh לְלָבָ֔ן Laban lə·lā·ḇān וְהַקְּשֻׁרִ֖ים and the stronger ones wə·haq·qə·šu·rîm לְיַעֲקֹֽב׃ to Jacob . lə·ya·‘ă·qōḇ Genesis 30:43 הָאִ֖ישׁ Thus [Jacob] hā·’îš מְאֹ֣ד became mə·’ōḏ מְאֹ֑ד exceedingly mə·’ōḏ וַיִּפְרֹ֥ץ prosperous . way·yip̄·rōṣ וַֽיְהִי־ He owned way·hî- לוֹ֙ - lōw רַבּ֔וֹת large rab·bō·wṯ צֹ֣אן flocks , ṣōn וּשְׁפָחוֹת֙ maidservants ū·šə·p̄ā·ḥō·wṯ וַעֲבָדִ֔ים and menservants , wa·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm וּגְמַלִּ֖ים and camels ū·ḡə·mal·lîm וַחֲמֹרִֽים׃ and donkeys . wa·ḥă·mō·rîm Genesis 31:1 וַיִּשְׁמַ֗ע Now Jacob heard way·yiš·ma‘ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לָבָן֙ that Laban’s lā·ḇān לֵאמֹ֔ר . . . lê·mōr בְנֵֽי־ sons ḇə·nê- דִּבְרֵ֤י were saying , diḇ·rê יַעֲקֹ֔ב “ Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ אֵ֖ת - ’êṯ לָקַ֣ח has taken away lā·qaḥ כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֣ר that [belonged to] ’ă·šer לְאָבִ֑ינוּ our father lə·’ā·ḇî·nū עָשָׂ֕ה and built ‘ā·śāh אֵ֥ת - ’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- הַזֶּֽה׃ this haz·zeh הַכָּבֹ֖ד wealth hak·kā·ḇōḏ וּמֵאֲשֶׁ֣ר at ū·mê·’ă·šer לְאָבִ֔ינוּ our father’s expense . ” lə·’ā·ḇî·nū Genesis 31:2 יַעֲקֹ֖ב And Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּ֥רְא saw way·yar פְּנֵ֣י from the countenance pə·nê לָבָ֑ן of Laban lā·ḇān וְהִנֵּ֥ה . . . wə·hin·nêh עִמּ֖וֹ that his attitude toward ‘im·mōw כִּתְמ֥וֹל him kiṯ·mō·wl שִׁלְשֽׁוֹם׃ . . . šil·šō·wm אֵינֶ֛נּוּ had changed . ’ê·nen·nū Genesis 31:3 יְהוָה֙ Then YHWH Yah·weh וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶֽל־ to ’el- יַעֲקֹ֔ב Jacob , ya·‘ă·qōḇ שׁ֛וּב “ Go back šūḇ אֶל־ to ’el- אֶ֥רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ אֲבוֹתֶ֖יךָ of your fathers ’ă·ḇō·w·ṯe·ḵā וּלְמוֹלַדְתֶּ֑ךָ and to your kindred , ū·lə·mō·w·laḏ·te·ḵā וְאֶֽהְיֶ֖ה and I will be wə·’eh·yeh עִמָּֽךְ׃ with you . ” ‘im·māḵ Genesis 31:4 יַעֲקֹ֔ב So Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent word way·yiš·laḥ וַיִּקְרָ֖א and called way·yiq·rā לְרָחֵ֣ל Rachel lə·rā·ḥêl וּלְלֵאָ֑ה and Leah ū·lə·lê·’āh הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה to the field haś·śā·ḏeh אֶל־ . . . ’el- צֹאנֽוֹ׃ where his flocks were , ṣō·nōw
