1 Samuel 25:17 וְעַתָּ֗ה Now wə·‘at·tāh דְּעִ֤י consider carefully də·‘î וּרְאִי֙ . . . ū·rə·’î מַֽה־ what mah- תַּעֲשִׂ֔י you must do , ta·‘ă·śî כִּֽי־ because kî- הָרָעָ֛ה disaster hā·rā·‘āh כָלְתָ֧ה looms ḵā·lə·ṯāh אֶל־ over ’el- אֲדֹנֵ֖ינוּ our master ’ă·ḏō·nê·nū וְעַ֣ל and wə·‘al כָּל־ all kāl- בֵּית֑וֹ his household . bê·ṯōw וְהוּא֙ For he [is such] wə·hū בֶּן־ vvv ben- בְּלִיַּ֔עַל a scoundrel bə·lî·ya·‘al מִדַּבֵּ֖ר that nobody can speak mid·dab·bêr אֵלָֽיו׃ to him !” ’ê·lāw 1 Samuel 25:18 אֲבוֹגַיִל Then Abigail ʾă·ḇō·ḡa·yil וַתְּמַהֵ֣ר hurried wat·tə·ma·hêr וַתִּקַּח֩ and took wat·tiq·qaḥ מָאתַ֨יִם two hundred mā·ṯa·yim לֶ֜חֶם [loaves] of bread , le·ḥem וּשְׁנַ֣יִם two ū·šə·na·yim נִבְלֵי־ skins niḇ·lê- יַ֗יִן of wine , ya·yin וְחָמֵ֨שׁ five wə·ḥā·mêš עֲשָׂווֹת butchered ʿă·śå̄·wōṯ צֹ֤אן sheep , ṣōn וְחָמֵ֤שׁ five wə·ḥā·mêš סְאִים֙ seahs sə·’îm קָלִ֔י of roasted grain , qā·lî וּמֵאָ֥ה a hundred ū·mê·’āh צִמֻּקִ֖ים clusters of raisins , ṣim·mu·qîm וּמָאתַ֣יִם and two hundred ū·mā·ṯa·yim דְּבֵלִ֑ים cakes of figs . də·ḇê·lîm וַתָּ֖שֶׂם She loaded them wat·tā·śem עַל־ on ‘al- הַחֲמֹרִֽים׃ donkeys ha·ḥă·mō·rîm 1 Samuel 25:19 וַתֹּ֤אמֶר and said wat·tō·mer לִנְעָרֶ֙יהָ֙ to her young men , lin·‘ā·re·hā עִבְר֣וּ “ Go ‘iḇ·rū לְפָנַ֔י ahead of me . lə·p̄ā·nay הִנְנִ֖י I will be hin·nî אַחֲרֵיכֶ֣ם right behind you .” ’a·ḥă·rê·ḵem בָּאָ֑ה . . . bā·’āh לֹ֥א But she did not lō הִגִּֽידָה׃ tell hig·gî·ḏāh וּלְאִישָׁ֥הּ her husband ū·lə·’î·šāh נָבָ֖ל Nabal . nā·ḇāl 1 Samuel 25:20 וְהָיָ֞ה - wə·hā·yāh הִ֣יא׀ As [Abigail] hî רֹכֶ֣בֶת came riding rō·ḵe·ḇeṯ עַֽל־ . . . ‘al- הַחֲמ֗וֹר her donkey ha·ḥă·mō·wr וְיֹרֶ֙דֶת֙ vvv wə·yō·re·ḏeṯ הָהָ֔ר into a mountain hā·hār בְּסֵ֣תֶר ravine , bə·sê·ṯer וְהִנֵּ֤ה she saw wə·hin·nêh דָוִד֙ David ḏā·wiḏ וַאֲנָשָׁ֔יו and his men wa·’ă·nā·šāw יֹרְדִ֖ים coming down yō·rə·ḏîm לִקְרָאתָ֑הּ toward her , liq·rā·ṯāh וַתִּפְגֹּ֖שׁ and she met wat·tip̄·gōš אֹתָֽם׃ them . ’ō·ṯām 1 Samuel 25:21 וְדָוִ֣ד Now David wə·ḏā·wiḏ אַךְ֩ had just ’aḵ אָמַ֗ר finished saying , ’ā·mar לַשֶּׁ֨קֶר “ In vain laš·še·qer שָׁמַ֜רְתִּי I have protected šā·mar·tî אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֤ר that ’ă·šer לָזֶה֙ belonged to this man lā·zeh בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר in the wilderness . bam·miḏ·bār וְלֹא־ Nothing wə·lō- מִכָּל־ . . . mik·kāl אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- ל֖וֹ [belongs] to him lōw מְא֑וּמָה - mə·’ū·māh נִפְקַ֥ד has gone missing , nip̄·qaḏ וַיָּֽשֶׁב־ yet he has paid me back way·yā·šeḇ- לִ֥י . . . lî רָעָ֖ה evil rā·‘āh תַּ֥חַת for ta·ḥaṯ טוֹבָֽה׃ good . ṭō·w·ḇāh
