אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּהַכְרִ֤ת cuts off bə·haḵ·riṯ אִ֕ישׁ every one ’îš דָוִ֔ד of David’s ḏā·wiḏ אֹיְבֵ֣י enemies ’ō·yə·ḇê מֵעַ֖ל from mê·‘al פְּנֵ֥י the face pə·nê הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ of the earth .” hā·’ă·ḏā·māh 1 Samuel 20:16 יְהוֹנָתָ֖ן So Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān וַיִּכְרֹ֥ת made a covenant way·yiḵ·rōṯ עִם־ with ‘im- בֵּ֣ית the house bêṯ דָּוִ֑ד of David[, saying] , dā·wiḏ יְהוָ֔ה “ May YHWH Yah·weh מִיַּ֖ד hold mî·yaḏ דָוִֽד׃ David’s ḏā·wiḏ אֹיְבֵ֥י enemies ’ō·yə·ḇê וּבִקֵּ֣שׁ accountable .” ū·ḇiq·qêš 1 Samuel 20:17 יְהֽוֹנָתָן֙ And Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān דָּוִ֔ד had David dā·wiḏ וַיּ֤וֹסֶף reaffirm way·yō·w·sep̄ לְהַשְׁבִּ֣יעַ his vow lə·haš·bî·a‘ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּאַהֲבָת֖וֹ out of love bə·’a·hă·ḇā·ṯōw אֹת֑וֹ for him , ’ō·ṯōw כִּֽי־ for kî- אֲהֵבֽוֹ׃ס [Jonathan] loved [David] ’ă·hê·ḇōw אַהֲבַ֥ת as he loved ’a·hă·ḇaṯ נַפְשׁ֖וֹ himself . nap̄·šōw 1 Samuel 20:18 יְהוֹנָתָ֖ן Then Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ said way·yō·mer- ל֥וֹ to David , lōw מָחָ֣ר “ Tomorrow mā·ḥār חֹ֑דֶשׁ is the New Moon , ḥō·ḏeš וְנִפְקַ֕דְתָּ and you will be missed wə·nip̄·qaḏ·tā כִּ֥י if kî מוֹשָׁבֶֽךָ׃ your seat mō·wō·šā·ḇe·ḵā יִפָּקֵ֖ד is empty . yip·pā·qêḏ 1 Samuel 20:19 וְשִׁלַּשְׁתָּ֙ [When] you have stayed three days , wə·šil·laš·tā מְאֹ֔ד hurry mə·’ōḏ תֵּרֵ֣ד down tê·rêḏ וּבָאתָ֙ - ū·ḇā·ṯā אֶל־ to ’el- הַמָּק֔וֹם the place ham·mā·qō·wm אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- נִסְתַּ֥רְתָּ you hid nis·tar·tā שָּׁ֖ם . . . šām בְּי֣וֹם on the day bə·yō·wm הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֑ה this trouble began , ham·ma·‘ă·śeh וְיָ֣שַׁבְתָּ֔ and remain wə·yā·šaḇ·tā אֵ֖צֶל beside ’ê·ṣel הָאֶ֥בֶן the stone hā·’e·ḇen הָאָֽזֶל׃ Ezel . hā·’ā·zel 1 Samuel 20:20 וַאֲנִ֕י I wa·’ă·nî אוֹרֶ֑ה will shoot ’ō·w·reh שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת three šə·lō·šeṯ הַחִצִּ֖ים arrows ha·ḥiṣ·ṣîm צִדָּ֣ה to the side of it , ṣid·dāh לְשַֽׁלַּֽח־ as if I were aiming lə·šal·laḥ- לִ֖י lî לְמַטָּרָֽה׃ at a target . lə·maṭ·ṭā·rāh 1 Samuel 20:21 וְהִנֵּה֙ Then wə·hin·nêh אֶשְׁלַ֣ח I will send ’eš·laḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַנַּ֔עַר a boy [and say] , han·na·‘ar לֵ֖ךְ ‘ Go , lêḵ מְצָ֣א find mə·ṣā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַחִצִּ֑ים the arrows ! ’ ha·ḥiṣ·ṣîm אִם־ Now, if ’im- אָמֹר֩ I expressly say ’ā·mōr אֹמַ֨ר . . . ’ō·mar לַנַּ֜עַר to him , lan·na·‘ar הִנֵּ֥ה ‘ Look , hin·nêh הַחִצִּ֣ים׀ the arrows ha·ḥiṣ·ṣîm וָהֵ֗נָּה are on this side wā·hên·nāh מִמְּךָ֣ of you ; mim·mə·ḵā קָחֶ֧נּוּ׀ bring them , ’ qā·ḥen·nū וָבֹ֛אָה then come , wā·ḇō·’āh כִּֽי־ because kî- יְהוָֽה׃ as surely as YHWH Yah·weh חַי־ lives , ḥay-
