אִתּ֔וֹ - ’it·tōw וַיִּזָּעֵ֣ק assembled way·yiz·zā·‘êq וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ and marched way·yā·ḇō·’ū עַד־ to ‘aḏ- הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה the battle , ham·mil·ḥā·māh וְהִנֵּ֨ה and they found [the Philistines] wə·hin·nêh מְאֹֽד׃ in total mə·’ōḏ גְּדוֹלָ֥ה . . . gə·ḏō·w·lāh מְהוּמָ֖ה confusion , mə·hū·māh אִישׁ֙ with each man ’îš הָיְתָ֜ה wielding hā·yə·ṯāh חֶ֤רֶב the sword ḥe·reḇ בְּרֵעֵ֔הוּ against his neighbor . bə·rê·‘ê·hū 1 Samuel 14:21 הָי֤וּ - hā·yū וְהָעִבְרִ֗ים And the Hebrews wə·hā·‘iḇ·rîm אֲשֶׁ֨ר who had ’ă·šer כְּאֶתְמ֣וֹל previously kə·’eṯ·mō·wl שִׁלְשׁ֔וֹם . . . šil·šō·wm עָל֥וּ gone up ‘ā·lū עִמָּ֛ם ‘im·mām בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֖ה into the surrounding camps bam·ma·ḥă·neh סָבִ֑יב . . . sā·ḇîḇ לַפְּלִשְׁתִּים֙ of the Philistines lap·pə·liš·tîm וְגַם־ now wə·ḡam- הֵ֗מָּה - hêm·māh לִֽהְיוֹת֙ went over to lih·yō·wṯ עִם־ . . . ‘im- יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל the Israelites yiś·rā·’êl אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ’ă·šer עִם־ were with ‘im- שָׁא֖וּל Saul šā·’ūl וְיוֹנָתָֽן׃ and Jonathan . wə·yō·w·nā·ṯān 1 Samuel 14:22 וְכֹל֩ When all wə·ḵōl יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל the Israelites yiś·rā·’êl אִ֨ישׁ - ’îš הַמִּֽתְחַבְּאִ֤ים who had been hiding ham·miṯ·ḥab·bə·’îm בְּהַר־ in the hill country bə·har- אֶפְרַ֙יִם֙ of Ephraim ’ep̄·ra·yim שָֽׁמְע֔וּ heard šā·mə·‘ū כִּֽי־ that kî- פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים the Philistines pə·liš·tîm נָ֖סוּ were fleeing , nā·sū הֵ֛מָּה they hêm·māh אַחֲרֵיהֶ֖ם . . . ’a·ḥă·rê·hem גַם־ also ḡam- וַֽיַּדְבְּק֥וּ joined way·yaḏ·bə·qū בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ Saul and Jonathan in the battle . bam·mil·ḥā·māh 1 Samuel 14:23 יְהוָ֛ה So YHWH Yah·weh וַיּ֧וֹשַׁע saved way·yō·wō·ša‘ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl הַה֖וּא that ha·hū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בַּיּ֥וֹם day , bay·yō·wm וְהַ֨מִּלְחָמָ֔ה and the battle wə·ham·mil·ḥā·māh עָבְרָ֖ה moved on ‘ā·ḇə·rāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בֵּ֥ית vvv bêṯ אָֽוֶן׃ beyond Beth-aven . ’ā·wen 1 Samuel 14:24 וְאִֽישׁ־ Now the men wə·’îš- יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl נִגַּ֖שׂ were in distress nig·gaś הַה֑וּא that ha·hū בַּיּ֣וֹם day , bay·yō·wm שָׁא֨וּל for Saul šā·’ūl אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָ֜ם had placed the troops hā·‘ām וַיֹּאֶל֩ under an oath , way·yō·’el לֵאמֹ֗ר saying , lê·mōr אָר֣וּר “ Cursed [is] ’ā·rūr הָ֠אִישׁ the man hā·’îš אֲשֶׁר־ who ’ă·šer- יֹ֨אכַל eats yō·ḵal לֶ֜חֶם [any] food le·ḥem עַד־ before ‘aḏ- הָעֶ֗רֶב evening , hā·‘e·reḇ וְנִקַּמְתִּי֙ before I have taken vengeance wə·niq·qam·tî מֵאֹ֣יְבַ֔י on my enemies . ” mê·’ō·yə·ḇay וְלֹֽא So none wə·lō כָּל־ . . . kāl- הָעָ֖ם of the troops hā·‘ām טָעַ֥ם tasted ṭā·‘am לָֽחֶם׃ס any food . lā·ḥem 1 Samuel 14:25 וְכָל־ Then all [the troops] wə·ḵāl הָאָ֖רֶץ . . . hā·’ā·reṣ בָּ֣אוּ entered bā·’ū
