יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל the Israelites yiś·rā·’êl וַיִּשְׂמַ֨ח rejoiced way·yiś·maḥ שָׁ֥ם . . . šām עַד־ greatly ‘aḏ- מְאֹֽד׃פ . . . . mə·’ōḏ 1 Samuel 12:1 שְׁמוּאֵל֙ Then Samuel šə·mū·’êl וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- כָּל־ all kāl- יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel , yiś·rā·’êl הִנֵּה֙ . . . hin·nêh שָׁמַ֣עְתִּי “ I have listened šā·ma‘·tî בְקֹֽלְכֶ֔ם to your voice ḇə·qō·lə·ḵem לְכֹ֥ל in all lə·ḵōl אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- אֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם that you have said ’ă·mar·tem לִ֑י to me , lî וָאַמְלִ֥יךְ and I have set wā·’am·lîḵ עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם over you ‘ă·lê·ḵem מֶֽלֶךְ׃ a king . me·leḵ 1 Samuel 12:2 וְעַתָּ֞ה Now wə·‘at·tāh הִנֵּ֥ה here is hin·nêh הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ׀ the king ham·me·leḵ מִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְ walking miṯ·hal·lêḵ לִפְנֵיכֶ֗ם before you , lip̄·nê·ḵem וַאֲנִי֙ and I wa·’ă·nî זָקַ֣נְתִּי am old zā·qan·tî וָשַׂ֔בְתִּי and gray , wā·śaḇ·tî וּבָנַ֖י and my sons ū·ḇā·nay הִנָּ֣ם are here hin·nām אִתְּכֶ֑ם with you . ’it·tə·ḵem וַאֲנִי֙ I wa·’ă·nî הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי have walked hiṯ·hal·laḵ·tî לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם before you lip̄·nê·ḵem מִנְּעֻרַ֖י from my youth min·nə·‘u·ray עַד־ until ‘aḏ- הַזֶּֽה׃ this haz·zeh הַיּ֥וֹם day . hay·yō·wm 1 Samuel 12:3 הִנְנִ֣י Here I am . hin·nî עֲנ֣וּ Bear witness ‘ă·nū בִי֩ against me ḇî נֶ֨גֶד before ne·ḡeḏ יְהוָ֜ה YHWH Yah·weh וְנֶ֣גֶד and before wə·ne·ḡeḏ מְשִׁיח֗וֹ His anointed : mə·šî·ḥōw אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מִ֨י Whose mî שׁוֹר֩׀ ox šō·wr וַחֲמ֧וֹר or donkey wa·ḥă·mō·wr לָקַ֜חְתִּי have I taken ? lā·qaḥ·tî מִ֣י Whom mî לָקַ֗חְתִּי vvv lā·qaḥ·tî וְאֶת־ vvv wə·’eṯ- עָשַׁ֙קְתִּי֙ have I cheated ‘ā·šaq·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מִ֣י - mî רַצּ֔וֹתִי or oppressed ? raṣ·ṣō·w·ṯî מִ֤י From whose mî וּמִיַּד־ hand ū·mî·yaḏ- מִי֙ . . . mî לָקַ֣חְתִּי have I accepted lā·qaḥ·tî כֹ֔פֶר a bribe ḵō·p̄er וְאַעְלִ֥ים and closed wə·’a‘·lîm עֵינַ֖י my eyes ‘ê·nay בּ֑וֹ - ? bōw וְאָשִׁ֖יב [Tell me,] and I will restore [it] wə·’ā·šîḇ לָכֶֽם׃ to you . ” lā·ḵem 1 Samuel 12:4 לֹ֥א “ You have not lō עֲשַׁקְתָּ֖נוּ wronged us ‘ă·šaq·tā·nū וְלֹ֣א or wə·lō רַצּוֹתָ֑נוּ oppressed us , ” raṣ·ṣō·w·ṯā·nū וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ they replied , way·yō·mə·rū וְלֹֽא־ “ nor wə·lō- לָקַ֥חְתָּ have you taken lā·qaḥ·tā מְאֽוּמָה׃ anything mə·’ū·māh מִיַּד־ from the hand mî·yaḏ- אִ֖ישׁ of man . ” ’îš 1 Samuel 12:5 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר Samuel said way·yō·mer אֲלֵיהֶ֜ם to them , ’ă·lê·hem יְהוָ֣ה “ YHWH Yah·weh עֵ֧ד is a witness ‘êḏ בָּכֶ֗ם against you , bā·ḵem מְשִׁיחוֹ֙ and His anointed mə·šî·ḥōw וְעֵ֤ד is a witness wə·‘êḏ הַיּ֣וֹם today , hay·yō·wm
