וַיְצַוֵּ֙הוּ֙ he commanded way·ṣaw·wê·hū וַיֹּ֣אמֶר . . . way·yō·mer ל֔וֹ . lōw Genesis 28:2 לֵךְ֙ “ Go lêḵ ק֥וּם at once qūm פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה vvv pad·de·nāh אֲרָ֔ם to Paddan-aram , ’ă·rām בֵּ֥יתָה to the house bê·ṯāh אִמֶּ֑ךָ of your mother’s ’im·me·ḵā אֲבִ֣י father ’ă·ḇî בְתוּאֵ֖ל Bethuel , ḇə·ṯū·’êl וְקַח־ and take wə·qaḥ- לְךָ֤ lə·ḵā מִשָּׁם֙ - miš·šām אִשָּׁ֔ה a wife ’iš·šāh מִבְּנ֥וֹת from among the daughters mib·bə·nō·wṯ לָבָ֖ן of Laban , lā·ḇān אִמֶּֽךָ׃ your mother’s ’im·me·ḵā אֲחִ֥י brother . ’ă·ḥî Genesis 28:3 וְאֵ֤ל May God wə·’êl שַׁדַּי֙ Almighty šad·day יְבָרֵ֣ךְ bless yə·ḇā·rêḵ אֹֽתְךָ֔ you ’ō·ṯə·ḵā וְיַפְרְךָ֖ and make you fruitful wə·yap̄·rə·ḵā וְיַרְבֶּ֑ךָ and multiply you , wə·yar·be·ḵā וְהָיִ֖יתָ so that you may become wə·hā·yî·ṯā לִקְהַ֥ל a company liq·hal עַמִּֽים׃ of peoples . ‘am·mîm Genesis 28:4 וְיִֽתֶּן־ And may He give wə·yit·ten- לְךָ֙ lə·ḵā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בִּרְכַּ֣ת the blessing bir·kaṯ אַבְרָהָ֔ם of Abraham ’aḇ·rā·hām לְךָ֖ to you lə·ḵā וּלְזַרְעֲךָ֣ and your descendants ū·lə·zar·‘ă·ḵā אִתָּ֑ךְ . . . , ’it·tāḵ לְרִשְׁתְּךָ֙ so that you may possess lə·riš·tə·ḵā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֶ֣רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ מְגֻרֶ֔יךָ where you dwell as a foreigner , mə·ḡu·re·ḵā אֲשֶׁר־ the land ’ă·šer- אֱלֹהִ֖ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm נָתַ֥ן gave nā·ṯan לְאַבְרָהָֽם׃ to Abraham . ” lə·’aḇ·rā·hām Genesis 28:5 יִצְחָק֙ So Isaac yiṣ·ḥāq אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח sent way·yiš·laḥ יַעֲקֹ֔ב Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ . . . way·yê·leḵ פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה vvv pad·de·nāh אֲרָ֑ם to Paddan-aram , ’ă·rām אֶל־ to ’el- לָבָ֤ן Laban lā·ḇān בֶּן־ son ben- בְּתוּאֵל֙ of Bethuel bə·ṯū·’êl הָֽאֲרַמִּ֔י the Aramean , hā·’ă·ram·mî אֲחִ֣י the brother ’ă·ḥî רִבְקָ֔ה of Rebekah , riḇ·qāh אֵ֥ם [who was] the mother ’êm יַעֲקֹ֖ב of Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ וְעֵשָֽׂו׃ and Esau . wə·‘ê·śāw Genesis 28:6 עֵשָׂ֗ו Now Esau ‘ê·śāw וַיַּ֣רְא learned way·yar כִּֽי־ that kî- יִצְחָק֮ Isaac yiṣ·ḥāq אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- בֵרַ֣ךְ had blessed ḇê·raḵ יַעֲקֹב֒ Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ וְשִׁלַּ֤ח and sent wə·šil·laḥ אֹתוֹ֙ him ’ō·ṯōw פַּדֶּ֣נָֽה vvv pad·de·nāh אֲרָ֔ם to Paddan-aram ’ă·rām לָקַֽחַת־ to take lā·qa·ḥaṯ- ל֥וֹ lōw אִשָּׁ֑ה a wife ’iš·šāh מִשָּׁ֖ם there , miš·šām בְּבָרֲכ֣וֹ vvv bə·ḇā·ră·ḵōw אֹת֔וֹ vvv ’ō·ṯōw וַיְצַ֤ו commanding way·ṣaw עָלָיו֙ him , ‘ā·lāw לֵאמֹ֔ר . . . lê·mōr לֹֽא־ “ Do not lō- תִקַּ֥ח marry ṯiq·qaḥ אִשָּׁ֖ה . . . ’iš·šāh כְּנָֽעַן׃ a Canaanite kə·nā·‘an
