מִפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים to the Philistines . ” mip·pə·liš·tîm Judges 15:4 שִׁמְשׁ֔וֹן Then Samson šim·šō·wn וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ went out way·yê·leḵ וַיִּלְכֹּ֖ד and caught way·yil·kōḏ שְׁלֹשׁ־ three šə·lōš- מֵא֣וֹת hundred mê·’ō·wṯ שׁוּעָלִ֑ים foxes . šū·‘ā·lîm וַיִּקַּ֣ח And he took way·yiq·qaḥ לַפִּדִ֗ים torches , lap·pi·ḏîm וַיֶּ֤פֶן turned way·ye·p̄en זָנָב֙ the foxes tail-to-tail zā·nāḇ אֶל־ . . . , ’el- זָנָ֔ב . . . zā·nāḇ וַיָּ֨שֶׂם and fastened way·yā·śem אֶחָ֛ד a ’e·ḥāḏ לַפִּ֥יד torch lap·pîḏ בֵּין־ between bên- שְׁנֵ֥י each pair šə·nê הַזְּנָב֖וֹת of tails haz·zə·nā·ḇō·wṯ בַּתָּֽוֶךְ׃ . . . . bat·tā·weḵ Judges 15:5 וַיַּבְעֶר־ Then he lit way·yaḇ·‘er- אֵשׁ֙ . . . ’êš בַּלַּפִּידִ֔ים the torches bal·lap·pî·ḏîm וַיְשַׁלַּ֖ח and released [the foxes] way·šal·laḥ בְּקָמ֣וֹת into the standing grain bə·qā·mō·wṯ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים of the Philistines , pə·liš·tîm וַיַּבְעֵ֛ר burning up way·yaḇ·‘êr מִגָּדִ֥ישׁ the piles of grain mig·gā·ḏîš וְעַד־ . . . wə·‘aḏ- קָמָ֖ה and the standing grain , qā·māh וְעַד־ as well as wə·‘aḏ- כֶּ֥רֶם the vineyards ke·rem זָֽיִת׃ and olive groves . zā·yiṯ Judges 15:6 מִ֣י “ Who mî עָ֣שָׂה did ‘ā·śāh זֹאת֒ this ? ” zōṯ פְלִשְׁתִּים֮ the Philistines p̄ə·liš·tîm וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ demanded . way·yō·mə·rū שִׁמְשׁוֹן֙ “ It was Samson , šim·šō·wn חֲתַ֣ן the son-in-law ḥă·ṯan הַתִּמְנִ֔י of the Timnite , ” hat·tim·nî וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ they were told . way·yō·mə·rū כִּ֚י “ For kî לָקַ֣ח - lā·qaḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ his wife ’iš·tōw וַֽיִּתְּנָ֖הּ was given way·yit·tə·nāh לְמֵרֵעֵ֑הוּ to his companion . ” lə·mê·rê·‘ê·hū פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים So the Philistines p̄ə·liš·tîm וַיַּעֲל֣וּ went up way·ya·‘ă·lū וַיִּשְׂרְפ֥וּ and burned way·yiś·rə·p̄ū אָבִ֖יהָ her and her father ’ā·ḇî·hā אוֹתָ֛הּ - ’ō·w·ṯāh וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ to death . bā·’êš Judges 15:7 שִׁמְשׁ֔וֹן And Samson šim·šō·wn וַיֹּ֤אמֶר told way·yō·mer לָהֶם֙ them , lā·hem אִֽם־ “ Because ’im- תַּעֲשׂ֖וּן you have done ta·‘ă·śūn כָּזֹ֑את this , kā·zōṯ אֶחְדָּֽל׃ I will not rest ’eḥ·dāl כִּ֛י until kî אִם־ . . . ’im- נִקַּ֥מְתִּי I have taken vengeance niq·qam·tî בָכֶ֖ם upon you ḇā·ḵem וְאַחַ֥ר - . ” wə·’a·ḥar Judges 15:8 וַיַּ֨ךְ And he struck way·yaḵ אוֹתָ֥ם them ’ō·w·ṯām שׁ֛וֹק ruthlessly šō·wq עַל־ . . . ‘al- יָרֵ֖ךְ . . . yā·rêḵ גְדוֹלָ֑ה with a great ḡə·ḏō·w·lāh מַכָּ֣ה slaughter , mak·kāh וַיֵּ֣רֶד and then went down way·yê·reḏ וַיֵּ֔שֶׁב and stayed way·yê·šeḇ בִּסְעִ֖יף in the cave bis·‘îp̄ סֶ֥לַע at the rock se·la‘ עֵיטָֽם׃ס of Etam . ‘ê·ṭām Judges 15:9 פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים Then the Philistines p̄ə·liš·tîm וַיַּעֲל֣וּ went up , way·ya·‘ă·lū וַֽיַּחֲנ֖וּ camped way·ya·ḥă·nū
