Judges 9:35 גַּ֣עַל Now Gaal ga·‘al בֶּן־ son ben- עֶ֔בֶד of Ebed ‘e·ḇeḏ וַיֵּצֵא֙ went out way·yê·ṣê וַיַּעֲמֹ֕ד and stood way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ פֶּ֖תַח at the entrance pe·ṯaḥ הָעִ֑יר of the city hā·‘îr שַׁ֣עַר gate ša·‘ar אֲבִימֶ֛לֶךְ just as Abimelech ’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ וְהָעָ֥ם and his men wə·hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- אִתּ֖וֹ - ’it·tōw וַיָּ֧קָם came out way·yā·qām מִן־ from min- הַמַּאְרָֽב׃ their hiding places . ham·ma’·rāḇ Judges 9:36 גַּעַל֮ When Gaal ga·‘al אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּרְא־ saw way·yar- הָעָם֒ the people , hā·‘ām וַיֹּ֣אמֶר he said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- זְבֻ֔ל Zebul , zə·ḇul הִנֵּה־ “ Look , hin·nêh- עָ֣ם people ‘ām יוֹרֵ֔ד are coming down yō·w·rêḏ מֵרָאשֵׁ֖י from the mountains mê·rā·šê הֶהָרִ֑ים . . . ! ” he·hā·rîm זְבֻ֔ל But Zebul zə·ḇul אֵ֣ת - ’êṯ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר replied way·yō·mer אֵלָיו֙ . . . , ’ê·lāw צֵ֧ל “ The shadows ṣêl הֶהָרִ֛ים of the mountains he·hā·rîm רֹאֶ֖ה look rō·’eh כָּאֲנָשִֽׁים׃ס like men kā·’ă·nā·šîm אַתָּ֥ה to you . ” ’at·tāh Judges 9:37 גַּעַל֮ Then Gaal ga·‘al לְדַבֵּר֒ spoke up lə·ḏab·bêr וַיֹּ֕אמֶר . . . way·yō·mer וַיֹּ֨סֶף again way·yō·sep̄ ע֣וֹד . . . , ‘ō·wḏ הִנֵּה־ “ Look , hin·nêh- עָם֙ people ‘ām יֽוֹרְדִ֔ים are coming down yō·wr·ḏîm מֵעִ֖ם from mê·‘im טַבּ֣וּר the center ṭab·būr הָאָ֑רֶץ of the land , hā·’ā·reṣ אֶחָ֣ד and one ’e·ḥāḏ וְרֹאשׁ־ company wə·rōš- בָּ֔א is coming bā מִדֶּ֖רֶךְ by way of mid·de·reḵ מְעוֹנְנִֽים׃ the Diviners’ mə·‘ō·wn·nîm אֵל֥וֹן Oak . ” ’ê·lō·wn Judges 9:38 אַיֵּ֨ה “ Where ’ay·yêh פִ֙יךָ֙ is your gloating p̄î·ḵā אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer אֵפ֥וֹא now ? ” ’ê·p̄ō·w זְבֻ֗ל Zebul zə·ḇul וַיֹּ֨אמֶר replied way·yō·mer אֵלָ֜יו . . . . ’ê·lāw תֹּאמַ֔ר “ You said , tō·mar מִ֥י ‘ Who mî אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ is Abimelech ’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ כִּ֣י that kî נַעַבְדֶ֑נּוּ we should serve him ? ’ na·‘aḇ·ḏen·nū הֲלֹ֨א Are these not hă·lō זֶ֤ה . . . zeh הָעָם֙ the people hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer מָאַ֣סְתָּה you ridiculed mā·’as·tāh בּ֔וֹ ? bōw צֵא־ Go out ṣê- עַתָּ֖ה now ‘at·tāh נָ֥א . . . nā וְהִלָּ֥חֶם and fight wə·hil·lā·ḥem בּֽוֹ׃ס them ! ” bōw Judges 9:39 גַ֔עַל So Gaal ḡa·‘al וַיֵּ֣צֵא went out way·yê·ṣê לִפְנֵ֖י before lip̄·nê בַּעֲלֵ֣י the leaders ba·‘ă·lê שְׁכֶ֑ם of Shechem šə·ḵem וַיִּלָּ֖חֶם and fought way·yil·lā·ḥem בַּאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃ against Abimelech , ba·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ
