וְדָמָ֗ם and their blood wə·ḏā·mām לָשׂ֞וּם be avenged lā·śūm עַל־ on ‘al- אֲחִיהֶם֙ their brother ’ă·ḥî·hem אֲבִימֶ֤לֶךְ Abimelech ’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer הָרַ֣ג - hā·raḡ אוֹתָ֔ם - ’ō·w·ṯām וְעַל֙ and on wə·‘al בַּעֲלֵ֣י the leaders ba·‘ă·lê שְׁכֶ֔ם of Shechem , šə·ḵem אֲשֶׁר־ who ’ă·šer- חִזְּק֥וּ had helped ḥiz·zə·qū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יָדָ֖יו him yā·ḏāw לַהֲרֹ֥ג murder la·hă·rōḡ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֶחָֽיו׃ his brothers . ’e·ḥāw Judges 9:25 בַעֲלֵ֨י The leaders ḇa·‘ă·lê שְׁכֶ֜ם of Shechem šə·ḵem וַיָּשִׂ֣ימוּ set up way·yā·śî·mū מְאָרְבִ֗ים an ambush mə·’ā·rə·ḇîm לוֹ֩ against [Abimelech] lōw עַ֚ל on ‘al רָאשֵׁ֣י the hilltops rā·šê הֶהָרִ֔ים . . . , he·hā·rîm וַיִּגְזְל֗וּ and they robbed way·yiḡ·zə·lū אֵ֛ת - ’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁר־ who ’ă·šer- יַעֲבֹ֥ר passed ya·‘ă·ḇōr עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם by them ‘ă·lê·hem בַּדָּ֑רֶךְ on the road . bad·dā·reḵ וַיֻּגַּ֖ד So this was reported way·yug·gaḏ לַאֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃פ to Abimelech . la·’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ Judges 9:26 גַּ֤עַל Meanwhile, Gaal ga·‘al בֶּן־ son ben- עֶ֙בֶד֙ of Ebed ‘e·ḇeḏ וַיָּבֹ֞א came way·yā·ḇō וְאֶחָ֔יו with his brothers wə·’e·ḥāw וַיַּעַבְר֖וּ and crossed way·ya·‘aḇ·rū בִּשְׁכֶ֑ם into Shechem , biš·ḵem בַּעֲלֵ֥י and the leaders ba·‘ă·lê שְׁכֶֽם׃ of Shechem šə·ḵem וַיִּבְטְחוּ־ put their confidence way·yiḇ·ṭə·ḥū- ב֖וֹ in him . ḇōw Judges 9:27 וַיֵּצְא֨וּ And after they had gone out way·yê·ṣə·’ū הַשָּׂדֶ֜ה into the fields , haś·śā·ḏeh וַֽיִּבְצְר֤וּ gathered [grapes] way·yiḇ·ṣə·rū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כַּרְמֵיהֶם֙ from their vineyards , kar·mê·hem וַֽיִּדְרְכ֔וּ and trodden [them] , way·yiḏ·rə·ḵū וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ they held way·ya·‘ă·śū הִלּוּלִ֑ים a festival hil·lū·lîm וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ and went way·yā·ḇō·’ū בֵּ֣ית into the house bêṯ אֱ of their god ; ’ĕlō·hê·hem וַיֹּֽאכְלוּ֙ and as they ate way·yō·ḵə·lū וַיִּשְׁתּ֔וּ and drank , way·yiš·tū וַֽיְקַלְל֖וּ they cursed way·qal·lū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ׃ Abimelech . ’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ Judges 9:28 גַּ֣עַל Then Gaal ga·‘al בֶּן־ son ben- עֶ֗בֶד of Ebed ‘e·ḇeḏ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀ said , way·yō·mer מִֽי־ “ Who mî- אֲבִימֶ֤לֶךְ is Abimelech , ’ă·ḇî·me·leḵ וּמִֽי־ and who ū·mî- שְׁכֶם֙ is Shechem , šə·ḵem כִּ֣י that kî נַעַבְדֶ֔נּוּ we should serve him ? na·‘aḇ·ḏen·nū הֲלֹ֥א Is he not hă·lō בֶן־ the son ḇen- יְרֻבַּ֖עַל of Jerubbaal , yə·rub·ba·‘al וּזְבֻ֣ל and is not Zebul ū·zə·ḇul פְּקִיד֑וֹ his officer ? pə·qî·ḏōw עִבְד֗וּ You are to serve ‘iḇ·ḏū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אַנְשֵׁ֤י the men ’an·šê חֲמוֹר֙ of Hamor , ḥă·mō·wr אֲבִ֣י the father ’ă·ḇî שְׁכֶ֔ם of Shechem . šə·ḵem וּמַדּ֖וּעַ Why ū·mad·dū·a‘ אֲנָֽחְנוּ׃ should we ’ă·nā·ḥə·nū נַעַבְדֶ֥נּוּ serve Abimelech ? na·‘aḇ·ḏen·nū
