לְמֶ֑לֶךְ [their] king . lə·me·leḵ Judges 9:7 וַיַּגִּ֣דוּ When this was reported way·yag·gi·ḏū לְיוֹתָ֗ם to Jotham , lə·yō·w·ṯām וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ he climbed way·yê·leḵ וַֽיַּעֲמֹד֙ . . . way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ בְּרֹ֣אשׁ to the top bə·rōš הַר־ of Mount har- גְּרִזִ֔ים Gerizim , gə·ri·zîm וַיִּשָּׂ֥א raised way·yiś·śā קוֹל֖וֹ his voice , qō·w·lōw וַיִּקְרָ֑א and cried out way·yiq·rā וַיֹּ֣אמֶר . . . way·yō·mer לָהֶ֗ם . . . : lā·hem שִׁמְע֤וּ “ Listen šim·‘ū אֵלַי֙ to me , ’ê·lay בַּעֲלֵ֣י O leaders ba·‘ă·lê שְׁכֶ֔ם of Shechem , šə·ḵem אֱלֹהִֽים׃ and may God ’ĕ·lō·hîm וְיִשְׁמַ֥ע listen wə·yiš·ma‘ אֲלֵיכֶ֖ם to you . ’ă·lê·ḵem Judges 9:8 הָעֵצִ֔ים One day the trees hā·‘ê·ṣîm הָל֤וֹךְ set out hā·lō·wḵ הָֽלְכוּ֙ . . . hā·lə·ḵū לִמְשֹׁ֥חַ to anoint lim·šō·aḥ מֶ֑לֶךְ a king me·leḵ עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם for themselves . ‘ă·lê·hem וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ They said way·yō·mə·rū לַזַּ֖יִת to the olive tree , laz·za·yiṯ מְלוֹכָה ‘ Reign mə·lō·ḵå̄h עָלֵֽינוּ׃ over us . ’ ‘ā·lê·nū Judges 9:9 הַזַּ֔יִת But the olive tree haz·za·yiṯ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר replied way·yō·mer לָהֶם֙ , lā·hem הֶחֳדַ֙לְתִּי֙ ‘ Should I stop giving he·ḥo·ḏal·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דִּשְׁנִ֔י my oil diš·nî אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- בִּ֛י bî יְכַבְּד֥וּ honors yə·ḵab·bə·ḏū אֱלֹהִ֖ים both God ’ĕ·lō·hîm וַאֲנָשִׁ֑ים and man , wa·’ă·nā·šîm וְהָ֣לַכְתִּ֔י to hold wə·hā·laḵ·tî לָנ֖וּעַ sway lā·nū·a‘ עַל־ over ‘al- הָעֵצִֽים׃ the trees ? ’ hā·‘ê·ṣîm Judges 9:10 הָעֵצִ֖ים Then the trees hā·‘ê·ṣîm וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ said way·yō·mə·rū לַתְּאֵנָ֑ה to the fig tree , lat·tə·’ê·nāh לְכִי־ ‘ Come lə·ḵî- אַ֖תְּ . . . ’at מָלְכִ֥י and reign mā·lə·ḵî עָלֵֽינוּ׃ over us . ’ ‘ā·lê·nū Judges 9:11 הַתְּאֵנָ֔ה But the fig tree hat·tə·’ê·nāh וַתֹּ֤אמֶר replied wat·tō·mer לָהֶם֙ , lā·hem הֶחֳדַ֙לְתִּי֙ ‘ Should I stop giving he·ḥo·ḏal·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מָתְקִ֔י my sweetness mā·ṯə·qî וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הַטּוֹבָ֑ה and my good haṭ·ṭō·w·ḇāh תְּנוּבָתִ֖י fruit , tə·nū·ḇā·ṯî וְהָ֣לַכְתִּ֔י to hold wə·hā·laḵ·tî לָנ֖וּעַ sway lā·nū·a‘ עַל־ over ‘al- הָעֵצִֽים׃ the trees ? ’ hā·‘ê·ṣîm Judges 9:12 הָעֵצִ֖ים Then the trees hā·‘ê·ṣîm וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ said way·yō·mə·rū לַגָּ֑פֶן to the grapevine , lag·gā·p̄en לְכִי־ ‘ Come lə·ḵî- אַ֖תְּ . . . ’at מָלוֹכִי and reign må̄·lō·ḵī עָלֵֽינוּ׃ over us . ’ ‘ā·lê·nū Judges 9:13 הַגֶּ֔פֶן But the grapevine hag·ge·p̄en וַתֹּ֤אמֶר replied wat·tō·mer לָהֶם֙ , lā·hem הֶחֳדַ֙לְתִּי֙ ‘ Should I stop giving he·ḥo·ḏal·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- תִּ֣ירוֹשִׁ֔י my wine tî·rō·wō·šî הַֽמְשַׂמֵּ֥חַ that cheers ham·śam·mê·aḥ
