אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer אִתּ֔וֹ and his ’it·tōw וּשְׁלֹשׁ־ three ū·šə·lōš- מֵא֤וֹת hundred mê·’ō·wṯ הָאִישׁ֙ men hā·’îš וַיָּבֹ֥א came way·yā·ḇō הַיַּרְדֵּ֑נָה to the Jordan hay·yar·dê·nāh עֹבֵ֣ר [and] crossed it ‘ō·ḇêr ה֗וּא . . . , hū עֲיֵפִ֖ים exhausted ‘ă·yê·p̄îm וְרֹדְפִֽים׃ yet still in pursuit . wə·rō·ḏə·p̄îm Judges 8:5 וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ So [Gideon] said way·yō·mer לְאַנְשֵׁ֣י to the men lə·’an·šê סֻכּ֔וֹת of Succoth , suk·kō·wṯ נָא֙ “ Please nā תְּנוּ־ give tə·nū- לָעָ֖ם my troops lā·‘ām אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer בְּרַגְלָ֑י - bə·raḡ·lāy כִּכְּר֣וֹת some kik·kə·rō·wṯ לֶ֔חֶם bread , le·ḥem כִּי־ for kî- הֵ֔ם they hêm עֲיֵפִ֣ים are exhausted , ‘ă·yê·p̄îm וְאָנֹכִ֗י and I wə·’ā·nō·ḵî רֹדֵ֛ף am still pursuing rō·ḏêp̄ אַחֲרֵ֛י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê זֶ֥בַח Zebah ze·ḇaḥ וְצַלְמֻנָּ֖ע and Zalmunna , wə·ṣal·mun·nā‘ מַלְכֵ֥י the kings mal·ḵê מִדְיָֽן׃ of Midian . ” miḏ·yān Judges 8:6 שָׂרֵ֣י But the leaders śā·rê סֻכּ֔וֹת of Succoth suk·kō·wṯ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ asked , way·yō·mer הֲ֠כַף “ [Are] the hands hă·ḵap̄ זֶ֧בַח of Zebah ze·ḇaḥ וְצַלְמֻנָּ֛ע and Zalmunna wə·ṣal·mun·nā‘ עַתָּ֖ה already ‘at·tāh בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ in your possession , bə·yā·ḏe·ḵā כִּֽי־ that kî- נִתֵּ֥ן we should give nit·tên לָֽחֶם׃ bread lā·ḥem לִֽצְבָאֲךָ֖ to your army ? ” liṣ·ḇā·’ă·ḵā Judges 8:7 לָכֵ֗ן “ Very well , ” lā·ḵên גִּדְע֔וֹן Gideon giḏ·‘ō·wn וַיֹּ֣אמֶר replied , way·yō·mer יְהוָ֛ה “ when YHWH Yah·weh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּתֵ֧ת has delivered bə·ṯêṯ זֶ֥בַח Zebah ze·ḇaḥ וְאֶת־ and wə·’eṯ- צַלְמֻנָּ֖ע Zalmunna ṣal·mun·nā‘ בְּיָדִ֑י into my hand , bə·yā·ḏî וְדַשְׁתִּי֙ I will tear wə·ḏaš·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּשַׂרְכֶ֔ם your flesh bə·śar·ḵem אֶת־ with ’eṯ- קוֹצֵ֥י the thorns qō·w·ṣê הַֽבַּרְקֳנִֽים׃ and briers hab·bar·qo·nîm הַמִּדְבָּ֖ר of the wilderness ham·miḏ·bār וְאֶת־ . . . ! ” wə·’eṯ- Judges 8:8 מִשָּׁם֙ From there miš·šām וַיַּ֤עַל he went up way·ya·‘al פְּנוּאֵ֔ל to Penuel pə·nū·’êl וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר and asked way·ḏab·bêr כָּזֹ֑את the same kā·zōṯ אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם from them , ’ă·lê·hem אַנְשֵׁ֣י but the men ’an·šê פְנוּאֵ֔ל of Penuel p̄ə·nū·’êl וַיַּעֲנ֤וּ gave the same response way·ya·‘ă·nū אוֹתוֹ֙ - ’ō·w·ṯōw כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר as ka·’ă·šer עָנ֖וּ - ‘ā·nū אַנְשֵׁ֥י the men ’an·šê סֻכּֽוֹת׃ of Succoth . suk·kō·wṯ Judges 8:9 גַּם־ So [Gideon] gam- וַיֹּ֛אמֶר told way·yō·mer לְאַנְשֵׁ֥י the men lə·’an·šê פְנוּאֵ֖ל of Penuel , p̄ə·nū·’êl לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . lê·mōr בְּשׁוּבִ֣י “ When I return bə·šū·ḇî בְשָׁל֔וֹם in triumph , ḇə·šā·lō·wm אֶתֹּ֖ץ I will tear down ’et·tōṣ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַזֶּֽה׃פ this haz·zeh
