זָרַ֣ע would plant their crops , zā·ra‘ מִדְיָ֧ן the Midianites , miḏ·yān וַֽעֲמָלֵ֛ק Amalekites , wa·‘ă·mā·lêq וּבְנֵי־ and other people ū·ḇə·nê- קֶ֖דֶם of the east qe·ḏem וְעָלָ֨ה would come up wə·‘ā·lāh וְעָל֥וּ and invade wə·‘ā·lū עָלָֽיו׃ them , ‘ā·lāw Judges 6:4 וַיַּחֲנ֣וּ encamping way·ya·ḥă·nū עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם against them ‘ă·lê·hem עַד־ as far as ‘aḏ- בּוֹאֲךָ֖ . . . bō·w·’ă·ḵā עַזָּ֑ה Gaza ‘az·zāh וַיַּשְׁחִ֙יתוּ֙ and destroying way·yaš·ḥî·ṯū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְב֣וּל the produce yə·ḇūl הָאָ֔רֶץ of the land . hā·’ā·reṣ יַשְׁאִ֤ירוּ They left yaš·’î·rū בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel bə·yiś·rā·’êl וְלֹֽא־ with no wə·lō- מִֽחְיָה֙ sustenance , miḥ·yāh וְשֶׂ֥ה neither sheep wə·śeh וָשׁ֖וֹר nor oxen wā·šō·wr וַחֲמֽוֹר׃ nor donkeys . wa·ḥă·mō·wr Judges 6:5 כִּ֡י For kî הֵם֩ the Midianites hêm יָבֹאוּ came yå̄·ḇō·ʾū וּמִקְנֵיהֶ֨ם with their livestock ū·miq·nê·hem יַעֲל֜וּ . . . ya·‘ă·lū וְאָהֳלֵיהֶ֗ם and their tents wə·’ā·ho·lê·hem לָרֹ֔ב like a great lā·rōḇ כְדֵֽי־ swarm ḵə·ḏê- אַרְבֶּה֙ of locusts . ’ar·beh וְלָהֶ֥ם They wə·lā·hem וְלִגְמַלֵּיהֶ֖ם and their camels wə·liḡ·mal·lê·hem אֵ֣ין were innumerable ’ên מִסְפָּ֑ר . . . , mis·pār וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ and they entered way·yā·ḇō·’ū בָאָ֖רֶץ the land ḇā·’ā·reṣ לְשַׁחֲתָֽהּ׃ to ravage it . lə·ša·ḥă·ṯāh Judges 6:6 יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl מְאֹ֖ד was greatly mə·’ōḏ וַיִּדַּ֧ל impoverished way·yid·dal מִפְּנֵ֣י by mip·pə·nê מִדְיָ֑ן Midian , miḏ·yān בְנֵֽי־ and the Israelites ḇə·nê- יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl וַיִּזְעֲק֥וּ cried out way·yiz·‘ă·qū אֶל־ to ’el- יְהוָֽה׃פ YHWH .
