בַמְּעָרָ֖ה in the cave ḇam·mə·‘ā·rāh בְּמַקֵּדָֽה׃ at Makkedah . bə·maq·qê·ḏāh Joshua 10:17 לִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ And Joshua lî·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיֻּגַּ֖ד was informed way·yug·gaḏ לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . : lê·mōr חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת “ The five ḥă·mê·šeṯ הַמְּלָכִ֔ים kings ham·mə·lā·ḵîm נִמְצְאוּ֙ have been found ; nim·ṣə·’ū נֶחְבְּאִ֥ים they are hiding neḥ·bə·’îm בַּמְּעָרָ֖ה in the cave bam·mə·‘ā·rāh בְּמַקֵּדָֽה׃ at Makkedah . ” bə·maq·qê·ḏāh Joshua 10:18 יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ So Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said , way·yō·mer גֹּ֛לּוּ “ Roll gōl·lū גְּדֹל֖וֹת large gə·ḏō·lō·wṯ אֲבָנִ֥ים stones ’ă·ḇā·nîm אֶל־ against ’el- פִּ֣י the mouth pî הַמְּעָרָ֑ה of the cave , ham·mə·‘ā·rāh וְהַפְקִ֧ידוּ and post wə·hap̄·qî·ḏū אֲנָשִׁ֖ים men ’ă·nā·šîm עָלֶ֛יהָ there ‘ā·le·hā לְשָׁמְרָֽם׃ to guard them . lə·šā·mə·rām Joshua 10:19 וְאַתֶּם֙ But you , wə·’at·tem אַֽל־ do not ’al- תַּעֲמֹ֔דוּ stop there . ta·‘ă·mō·ḏū רִדְפוּ֙ Pursue riḏ·p̄ū אַחֲרֵ֣י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê אֹֽיְבֵיכֶ֔ם your enemies ’ō·yə·ḇê·ḵem וְזִנַּבְתֶּ֖ם and attack them from behind . wə·zin·naḇ·tem אוֹתָ֑ם - ’ō·w·ṯām אַֽל־ Do not ’al- תִּתְּנ֗וּם let them tit·tə·nūm לָבוֹא֙ reach lā·ḇō·w אֶל־ . . . ’el- עָ֣רֵיהֶ֔ם their cities , ‘ā·rê·hem כִּ֧י for kî יְהוָ֥ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם your God ’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem נְתָנָ֛ם has delivered them nə·ṯā·nām בְּיֶדְכֶֽם׃ into your hand . ” bə·yeḏ·ḵem Joshua 10:20 וַיְהִי֩ - way·hî יְהוֹשֻׁ֜עַ So Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וּבְנֵ֣י and the Israelites ū·ḇə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl כְּכַלּ֨וֹת continued kə·ḵal·lō·wṯ לְהַכּוֹתָ֛ם to inflict lə·hak·kō·w·ṯām גְדוֹלָֽה־ a terrible ḡə·ḏō·w·lāh- מְאֹ֖ד . . . mə·’ōḏ מַכָּ֥ה slaughter mak·kāh עַד־ until ‘aḏ- תֻּמָּ֑ם they had finished them off , tum·mām וְהַשְּׂרִידִים֙ and the remaining wə·haś·śə·rî·ḏîm שָׂרְד֣וּ survivors śā·rə·ḏū מֵהֶ֔ם . . . mê·hem וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ retreated way·yā·ḇō·’ū אֶל־ to ’el- הַמִּבְצָֽר׃ the fortified ham·miḇ·ṣār עָרֵ֥י cities . ‘ā·rê Joshua 10:21 כָל־ The whole ḵāl הָעָ֨ם army hā·‘ām וַיָּשֻׁבוּ֩ returned way·yā·šu·ḇū בְּשָׁל֑וֹם safely bə·šā·lō·wm אֶל־ to ’el- יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ אֶל־ in ’el- הַמַּחֲנֶ֧ה the camp ham·ma·ḥă·neh מַקֵּדָ֖ה at Makkedah , maq·qê·ḏāh לֹֽא־ [and] no one lō- חָרַ֞ץ dared to utter ḥā·raṣ לְשֹׁנֽוֹ׃ a word lə·šō·nōw לְאִ֖ישׁ against lə·’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לִבְנֵ֧י vvv liḇ·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל the Israelites . yiś·rā·’êl Joshua 10:22 יְהוֹשֻׁ֔עַ Then Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said , way·yō·mer פִּתְח֖וּ “ Open piṯ·ḥū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- פִּ֣י the mouth pî הַמְּעָרָ֑ה of the cave ham·mə·‘ā·rāh הָאֵ֖לֶּה [and bring] those hā·’êl·leh
