אֶל־ to ’el- יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ Joshua . yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ Then Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר asked them , way·yō·mer אֲלֵהֶ֧ם . . . ’ă·lê·hem מִ֥י “ Who mî אַתֶּ֖ם are you ’at·tem וּמֵאַ֥יִן and where ū·mê·’a·yin תָּבֹֽאוּ׃ have you come from ? ” tā·ḇō·’ū Joshua 9:9 עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ “ Your servants ‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā בָּ֣אוּ have come bā·’ū מְאֹד֙ from a very mə·’ōḏ רְחוֹקָ֤ה distant rə·ḥō·w·qāh מֵאֶ֨רֶץ land , ” mê·’e·reṣ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ they replied way·yō·mə·rū אֵלָ֗יו . . . , ’ê·lāw לְשֵׁ֖ם “ because of the fame lə·šêm יְהוָ֣ה of YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ your God . ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā כִּֽי־ For kî- שָׁמַ֣עְנוּ we have heard šā·ma‘·nū שָׁמְע֔וֹ the reports about Him šā·mə·‘ōw וְאֵ֛ת - : wə·’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ’ă·šer עָשָׂ֖ה He did ‘ā·śāh בְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃ in Egypt , bə·miṣ·rā·yim Joshua 9:10 וְאֵ֣ת׀ and wə·’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer עָשָׂ֗ה He did ‘ā·śāh לִשְׁנֵי֙ to the two liš·nê מַלְכֵ֣י kings mal·ḵê הָאֱמֹרִ֔י of the Amorites hā·’ĕ·mō·rî אֲשֶׁ֖ר ’ă·šer בְּעֵ֣בֶר beyond bə·‘ê·ḇer הַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן the Jordan — hay·yar·dên לְסִיחוֹן֙ Sihon lə·sî·ḥō·wn מֶ֣לֶךְ king me·leḵ חֶשְׁבּ֔וֹן of Heshbon ḥeš·bō·wn וּלְע֥וֹג and Og ū·lə·‘ō·wḡ מֶֽלֶךְ־ king me·leḵ- הַבָּשָׁ֖ן of Bashan , hab·bā·šān אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ’ă·šer בְּעַשְׁתָּרֽוֹת׃ reigned in Ashtaroth . bə·‘aš·tā·rō·wṯ Joshua 9:11 זְֽקֵינֵינוּ֩ So the elders zə·qê·nê·nū וְכָל־ and wə·ḵāl יֹשְׁבֵ֨י inhabitants yō·šə·ḇê אַרְצֵ֜נוּ of our land ’ar·ṣê·nū וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ told way·yō·mə·rū אֵלֵ֡ינוּ us , ’ê·lê·nū לֵאמֹ֗ר - lê·mōr קְח֨וּ ‘ Take qə·ḥū בְיֶדְכֶ֤ם - ḇə·yeḏ·ḵem צֵידָה֙ provisions ṣê·ḏāh לַדֶּ֔רֶךְ for your journey ; lad·de·reḵ וּלְכ֖וּ go ū·lə·ḵū לִקְרָאתָ֑ם to meet them liq·rā·ṯām וַאֲמַרְתֶּ֤ם and say wa·’ă·mar·tem אֲלֵיהֶם֙ to them : ’ă·lê·hem אֲנַ֔חְנוּ We ’ă·naḥ·nū וְעַתָּ֖ה . . . wə·‘at·tāh עַבְדֵיכֶ֣ם are your servants . ‘aḇ·ḏê·ḵem כִּרְתוּ־ Please make kir·ṯū- בְרִֽית׃ a treaty ḇə·rîṯ לָ֥נוּ with us . ’ lā·nū Joshua 9:12 זֶ֣ה׀ This zeh לַחְמֵ֗נוּ bread laḥ·mê·nū חָ֞ם of ours was warm ḥām הִצְטַיַּ֤דְנוּ when we packed hiṣ·ṭay·yaḏ·nū אֹתוֹ֙ it ’ō·ṯōw מִבָּ֣תֵּ֔ינוּ at home mib·bāt·tê·nū בְּי֥וֹם on the day bə·yō·wm צֵאתֵ֖נוּ we left ṣê·ṯê·nū לָלֶ֣כֶת to come lā·le·ḵeṯ אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם to you . ’ă·lê·ḵem הִנֵּ֣ה But take a look , hin·nêh וְעַתָּה֙ it is now wə·‘at·tāh יָבֵ֔שׁ dry yā·ḇêš וְהָיָ֖ה and wə·hā·yāh נִקֻּדִֽים׃ moldy . niq·qu·ḏîm Joshua 9:13 וְאֵ֨לֶּה These wə·’êl·leh נֹאד֤וֹת wineskins nō·ḏō·wṯ הַיַּ֙יִן֙ . . . hay·ya·yin חֲדָשִׁ֔ים were new ḥă·ḏā·šîm
