Numbers 21:4 וַיִּסְע֞וּ Then they set out way·yis·‘ū הָהָר֙ from Mount hā·hār מֵהֹ֤ר Hor mê·hōr דֶּ֣רֶךְ along the route de·reḵ ס֔וּף to the Red sūp̄ יַם־ Sea , yam- לִסְבֹ֖ב in order to bypass lis·ḇōḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֶ֣רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ אֱד֑וֹם of Edom . ’ĕ·ḏō·wm הָעָ֖ם But the people hā·‘ām וַתִּקְצַ֥ר grew impatient wat·tiq·ṣar נֶֽפֶשׁ־ . . . ne·p̄eš- בַּדָּֽרֶךְ׃ on the journey bad·dā·reḵ Numbers 21:5 הָעָ֗ם - hā·‘ām וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר and spoke way·ḏab·bêr בֵּֽאלֹהִים֮ against God bê·lō·hîm וּבְמֹשֶׁה֒ and against Moses : ū·ḇə·mō·šeh לָמָ֤ה “ Why lā·māh הֶֽעֱלִיתֻ֙נוּ֙ have you led us up he·‘ĕ·lî·ṯu·nū מִמִּצְרַ֔יִם out of Egypt mim·miṣ·ra·yim לָמ֖וּת to die lā·mūṯ בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר in the wilderness ? bam·miḏ·bār כִּ֣י . . . kî אֵ֥ין There is no ’ên לֶ֙חֶם֙ bread le·ḥem וְאֵ֣ין . . . wə·’ên מַ֔יִם or water , ma·yim וְנַפְשֵׁ֣נוּ and we wə·nap̄·šê·nū קָ֔צָה detest qā·ṣāh הַקְּלֹקֵֽל׃ this wretched haq·qə·lō·qêl בַּלֶּ֖חֶם food ! ” bal·le·ḥem Numbers 21:6 יְהוָ֜ה So YHWH Yah·weh וַיְשַׁלַּ֨ח sent way·šal·laḥ הַשְּׂרָפִ֔ים venomous haś·śə·rā·p̄îm הַנְּחָשִׁ֣ים snakes han·nə·ḥā·šîm בָּעָ֗ם among [the people] , bā·‘ām אֵ֚ת - ’êṯ רָ֖ב and many rāḇ עַם־ vvv ‘am- מִיִּשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of the Israelites mî·yiś·rā·’êl וַֽיְנַשְּׁכ֖וּ were bitten way·naš·šə·ḵū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָ֑ם - hā·‘ām וַיָּ֥מָת and died . way·yā·māṯ Numbers 21:7 הָעָ֨ם Then the people hā·‘ām וַיָּבֹא֩ came way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ to ’el- מֹשֶׁ֜ה Moses mō·šeh וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ and said , way·yō·mə·rū חָטָ֗אנוּ “ We have sinned ḥā·ṭā·nū כִּֽי־ by kî- דִבַּ֤רְנוּ speaking ḏib·bar·nū בַֽיהוָה֙ against YHWH Yah·weh וָבָ֔ךְ and against you . wā·ḇāḵ הִתְפַּלֵּל֙ Intercede hiṯ·pal·lêl אֶל־ with ’el- יְהוָ֔ה YHWH Yah·weh וְיָסֵ֥ר so He will take wə·yā·sêr הַנָּחָ֑שׁ the snakes han·nā·ḥāš מֵעָלֵ֖ינוּ away from us . ” mê·‘ā·lê·nū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מֹשֶׁ֖ה So Moses mō·šeh וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל interceded way·yiṯ·pal·lêl בְּעַ֥ד for bə·‘aḏ הָעָֽם׃ the people . hā·‘ām Numbers 21:8 יְהוָ֜ה Then YHWH Yah·weh וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- מֹשֶׁ֗ה Moses , mō·šeh עֲשֵׂ֤ה “ Make ‘ă·śêh לְךָ֙ lə·ḵā שָׂרָ֔ף a fiery serpent śā·rāp̄ וְשִׂ֥ים and mount wə·śîm אֹת֖וֹ it ’ō·ṯōw עַל־ on ‘al- נֵ֑ס a pole . nês וְהָיָה֙ . . . wə·hā·yāh כָּל־ When anyone kāl- הַנָּשׁ֔וּךְ who is bitten han·nā·šūḵ וְרָאָ֥ה looks at it , wə·rā·’āh אֹת֖וֹ - ’ō·ṯōw וָחָֽי׃ he will live . ” wā·ḥāy Numbers 21:9 מֹשֶׁה֙ So Moses mō·šeh
