שַׁבָּת֛וֹן of complete rest , šab·bā·ṯō·wn קֹ֖דֶשׁ holy qō·ḏeš לַיהוָ֑ה to YHWH . Yah·weh כָּל־ Whoever kāl- הָעֹשֶׂ֧ה does hā·‘ō·śeh מְלָאכָ֛ה [any] work mə·lā·ḵāh הַשַּׁבָּ֖ת on the Sabbath haš·šab·bāṯ בְּי֥וֹם day bə·yō·wm מ֥וֹת must surely mō·wṯ יוּמָֽת׃ be put to death . yū·māṯ Exodus 31:16 בְנֵֽי־ The Israelites ḇə·nê- יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וְשָׁמְר֥וּ must keep wə·šā·mə·rū הַשַּׁבָּ֑ת the Sabbath , haš·šab·bāṯ לַעֲשׂ֧וֹת celebrating la·‘ă·śō·wṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַשַּׁבָּ֛ת it haš·šab·bāṯ עוֹלָֽם׃ as a permanent ‘ō·w·lām בְּרִ֥ית covenant bə·rîṯ לְדֹרֹתָ֖ם for the generations to come . lə·ḏō·rō·ṯām Exodus 31:17 הִ֖וא It hî א֥וֹת is a sign ’ō·wṯ בֵּינִ֗י between Me bê·nî וּבֵין֙ . . . ū·ḇên בְּנֵ֣י and the Israelites bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl לְעֹלָ֑ם forever ; lə·‘ō·lām כִּי־ for kî- שֵׁ֣שֶׁת in six šê·šeṯ יָמִ֗ים days yā·mîm יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עָשָׂ֤ה made ‘ā·śāh הַשָּׁמַ֣יִם the heavens haš·šā·ma·yim וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הָאָ֔רֶץ and the earth , hā·’ā·reṣ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י but on the seventh haš·šə·ḇî·‘î וּבַיּוֹם֙ day ū·ḇay·yō·wm שָׁבַ֖ת He rested šā·ḇaṯ וַיִּנָּפַֽשׁ׃ס and was refreshed . ’” way·yin·nā·p̄aš Exodus 31:18 כְּכַלֹּתוֹ֙ When [YHWH] had finished kə·ḵal·lō·ṯōw לְדַבֵּ֤ר speaking lə·ḏab·bêr אִתּוֹ֙ with [Moses] ’it·tōw בְּהַ֣ר on Mount bə·har סִינַ֔י Sinai , sî·nay וַיִּתֵּ֣ן He gave way·yit·tên אֶל־ . . . ’el- מֹשֶׁ֗ה [him] mō·šeh שְׁנֵ֖י the two šə·nê לֻחֹ֣ת tablets lu·ḥōṯ הָעֵדֻ֑ת of the Testimony , hā·‘ê·ḏuṯ לֻחֹ֣ת tablets lu·ḥōṯ אֶ֔בֶן of stone ’e·ḇen כְּתֻבִ֖ים inscribed kə·ṯu·ḇîm בְּאֶצְבַּ֥ע by the finger bə·’eṣ·ba‘ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God . ’ĕ·lō·hîm Exodus 32:1 הָעָ֔ם Now when the people hā·‘ām וַיַּ֣רְא saw way·yar כִּֽי־ that kî- מֹשֶׁ֖ה Moses mō·šeh בֹשֵׁ֥שׁ was delayed ḇō·šêš לָרֶ֣דֶת in coming down lā·re·ḏeṯ מִן־ from min- הָהָ֑ר the mountain , hā·hār הָעָ֜ם they hā·‘ām וַיִּקָּהֵ֨ל gathered way·yiq·qā·hêl עַֽל־ around ‘al- אַהֲרֹ֗ן Aaron ’a·hă·rōn וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ and said way·yō·mə·rū אֵלָיו֙ - , ’ê·lāw ק֣וּם׀ “ Come , qūm עֲשֵׂה־ make ‘ă·śêh- לָ֣נוּ us lā·nū אֱלֹהִ֗ים gods ’ĕ·lō·hîm אֲשֶׁ֤ר who ’ă·šer יֵֽלְכוּ֙ will go yê·lə·ḵū לְפָנֵ֔ינוּ before us . lə·p̄ā·nê·nū כִּי־ As for kî- זֶ֣ה׀ this zeh מֹשֶׁ֣ה Moses mō·šeh הָאִ֗ישׁ - hā·’îš אֲשֶׁ֤ר who ’ă·šer הֶֽעֱלָ֙נוּ֙ brought us up he·‘ĕ·lā·nū מֵאֶ֣רֶץ out of the land mê·’e·reṣ מִצְרַ֔יִם of Egypt , miṣ·ra·yim לֹ֥א we do not lō יָדַ֖עְנוּ know yā·ḏa‘·nū
