הֲלָ֧א “ Did you not hă·lā רְשַׁ֗מְתָּ sign rə·šam·tā אֱסָ֣ר a decree ’ĕ·sār דִּ֣י that dî עַד־ for ‘aḏ- תְּלָתִ֗ין thirty tə·lā·ṯîn יוֹמִ֣ין days yō·w·mîn כָל־ any ḵāl אֱנָ֡שׁ man ’ĕ·nāš דִּֽי־ who dî- יִבְעֵה֩ petitions yiḇ·‘êh מִן־ . . . min- כָּל־ any kāl- אֱלָ֨הּ god ’ĕ·lāh וֶֽאֱנָ֜שׁ or man we·’ĕ·nāš לָהֵן֙ except you , lā·hên מִנָּ֣ךְ . . . min·nāḵ מַלְכָּ֔א O king , mal·kā יִתְרְמֵ֕א will be thrown yiṯ·rə·mê לְג֖וֹב into the den lə·ḡō·wḇ אַרְיָותָ֑א of lions ? ” ’ar·yā·w·ṯā מַלְכָּ֜א The king mal·kā וְאָמַ֗ר . . . wə·’ā·mar עָנֵ֨ה replied , ‘ā·nêh כְּדָת־ “ According to the law kə·ḏāṯ- מָדַ֥י of the Medes mā·ḏay וּפָרַ֖ס and Persians ū·p̄ā·ras דִּי־ . . . dî- מִלְּתָ֛א the order mil·lə·ṯā יַצִּיבָ֧א stands , yaṣ·ṣî·ḇā לָ֥א and it cannot lā תֶעְדֵּֽא׃ be repealed . ” ṯe‘·dê Daniel 6:13 בֵּ֠אדַיִן Then bê·ḏa·yin עֲנ֣וֹ they told ‘ă·nōw וְאָמְרִין֮ . . . wə·’ā·mə·rîn קֳדָ֣ם . . . qo·ḏām מַלְכָּא֒ the king , mal·kā דָנִיֵּ֡אל “ Daniel , ḏā·nî·yêl דִּ֣י one dî מִן־ of min- דִּי֩ vvv dî בְּנֵ֨י the exiles bə·nê גָלוּתָ֜א . . . ḡā·lū·ṯā דִּ֣י from dî יְה֗וּד Judah , yə·hūḏ לָא־ shows no lā- שָׂ֨ם regard śām עֲלַיִךְ for you , ʿă·la·yiḵ מַלְכָּא֙ O king , mal·kā טְעֵ֔ם ṭə·‘êm וְעַל־ or for wə·‘al- אֱסָרָ֖א the decree ’ĕ·sā·rā דִּ֣י that dî רְשַׁ֑מְתָּ you have signed . rə·šam·tā בָּעֵ֖א He still makes bā·‘ê בָּעוּתֵֽהּ׃ his petition bā·‘ū·ṯêh תְּלָתָה֙ three tə·lā·ṯāh וְזִמְנִ֤ין times wə·zim·nîn בְּיוֹמָ֔א a day . ” bə·yō·w·mā Daniel 6:14 אֱדַ֨יִן - ’ĕ·ḏa·yin כְּדִ֧י As soon as kə·ḏî מַלְכָּ֜א the king mal·kā שְׁמַ֗ע heard šə·ma‘ מִלְּתָ֣א this , mil·lə·ṯā שַׂגִּיא֙ he was deeply śag·gî בְּאֵ֣שׁ distressed bə·’êš עֲל֔וֹהִי . . . ‘ă·lō·w·hî וְעַ֧ל and wə·‘al שָׂ֥ם set śām בָּ֖ל [his] mind bāl לְשֵׁיזָבוּתֵ֑הּ on delivering lə·šê·zā·ḇū·ṯêh דָּנִיֵּ֛אל Daniel , dā·nî·yêl מִשְׁתַּדַּ֖ר and he labored miš·tad·dar וְעַד֙ until wə·‘aḏ מֶֽעָלֵ֣י sundown me·‘ā·lê שִׁמְשָׁ֔א . . . šim·šā הֲוָ֥א . . . hă·wā לְהַצָּלוּתֵֽהּ׃ to rescue him . lə·haṣ·ṣā·lū·ṯêh Daniel 6:15 בֵּאדַ֙יִן֙ Then bê·ḏa·yin אִלֵּ֔ךְ the ’il·lêḵ גֻּבְרַיָּ֣א men guḇ·ray·yā הַרְגִּ֖שׁוּ approached har·gi·šū עַל־ . . . ‘al- מַלְכָּ֑א the king {together} mal·kā וְאָמְרִ֣ין and said wə·’ā·mə·rîn לְמַלְכָּ֗א to him , lə·mal·kā דַּ֤ע “ Remember , da‘ מַלְכָּא֙ O king , mal·kā דִּֽי־ that dî- דָת֙ by the law ḏāṯ לְמָדַ֣י of the Medes lə·mā·ḏay
