הָֽאֶחָד֙ One hā·’e·ḥāḏ אֲשֶׁ֨ר [son] ’ă·šer שֵׁ֤ם was named šêm גֵּֽרְשֹׁ֔ם Gershom , gê·rə·šōm כִּ֣י for kî אָמַ֔ר Moses had said , ’ā·mar הָיִ֔יתִי “ I have been hā·yî·ṯî גֵּ֣ר a foreigner gêr נָכְרִיָּֽה׃ in a foreign nā·ḵə·rî·yāh בְּאֶ֖רֶץ land . ” bə·’e·reṣ Exodus 18:4 הָאֶחָ֖ד The other [son] hā·’e·ḥāḏ וְשֵׁ֥ם was named wə·šêm אֱלִיעֶ֑זֶר Eliezer , ’ĕ·lî·‘e·zer כִּֽי־ for [Moses had said] , kî- אֱלֹהֵ֤י “ The God ’ĕ·lō·hê אָבִי֙ of my father ’ā·ḇî בְּעֶזְרִ֔י was my helper bə·‘ez·rî וַיַּצִּלֵ֖נִי and delivered me way·yaṣ·ṣi·lê·nî מֵחֶ֥רֶב from the sword mê·ḥe·reḇ פַּרְעֹֽה׃ of Pharaoh . ” par·‘ōh Exodus 18:5 חֹתֵ֥ן Moses’ father-in-law ḥō·ṯên יִתְר֨וֹ Jethro , yiṯ·rōw מֹשֶׁ֛ה along with Moses’ mō·šeh וְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ wife wə·’iš·tōw וּבָנָ֥יו and sons , ū·ḇā·nāw וַיָּבֹ֞א came way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ to ’el- מֹשֶׁ֑ה him mō·šeh אֶל־ in ’el- הַמִּדְבָּ֗ר the desert , ham·miḏ·bār אֲשֶׁר־ where ’ă·šer- ה֛וּא he hū חֹנֶ֥ה was encamped ḥō·neh שָׁ֖ם . . . šām הַ֥ר at the mountain har הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃ of God . hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm Exodus 18:6 וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ He sent word way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- מֹשֶׁ֔ה Moses , mō·šeh אֲנִ֛י “ I , ’ă·nî חֹתֶנְךָ֥ your father-in-law ḥō·ṯen·ḵā יִתְר֖וֹ Jethro , yiṯ·rōw בָּ֣א am coming bā אֵלֶ֑יךָ to ’ê·le·ḵā וְאִ֨שְׁתְּךָ֔ you with your wife wə·’iš·tə·ḵā עִמָּֽהּ׃ and her ‘im·māh וּשְׁנֵ֥י two ū·šə·nê בָנֶ֖יהָ sons . ” ḇā·ne·hā Exodus 18:7 מֹשֶׁ֜ה So Moses mō·šeh לִקְרַ֣את . . . liq·raṯ וַיֵּצֵ֨א went out to meet way·yê·ṣê חֹֽתְנ֗וֹ his father-in-law ḥō·ṯə·nōw וַיִּשְׁתַּ֙חוּ֙ and bowed down way·yiš·ta·ḥū וַיִּשַּׁק־ and kissed way·yiš·šaq- ל֔וֹ him . lōw וַיִּשְׁאֲל֥וּ They greeted way·yiš·’ă·lū לְשָׁל֑וֹם . . . lə·šā·lō·wm אִישׁ־ each ’îš- לְרֵעֵ֖הוּ other lə·rê·‘ê·hū וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ and went way·yā·ḇō·’ū הָאֹֽהֱלָה׃ into the tent . hā·’ō·hĕ·lāh Exodus 18:8 מֹשֶׁה֙ Then Moses mō·šeh וַיְסַפֵּ֤ר recounted way·sap·pêr לְחֹ֣תְנ֔וֹ to his father-in-law lə·ḥō·ṯə·nōw אֵת֩ - ’êṯ כָּל־ all kāl- אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ’ă·šer יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh עָשָׂ֤ה had done ‘ā·śāh לְפַרְעֹ֣ה to Pharaoh lə·p̄ar·‘ōh וּלְמִצְרַ֔יִם and the Egyptians ū·lə·miṣ·ra·yim עַ֖ל for ‘al יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel’s yiś·rā·’êl אֵ֤ת - ’êṯ אוֹדֹ֣ת sake , ’ō·w·ḏōṯ כָּל־ all kāl- הַתְּלָאָה֙ the hardships hat·tə·lā·’āh אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer מְצָאָ֣תַם they had encountered mə·ṣā·’ā·ṯam בַּדֶּ֔רֶךְ along the way , bad·de·reḵ יְהוָֽה׃ and how YHWH Yah·weh וַיַּצִּלֵ֖ם had delivered them . way·yaṣ·ṣi·lêm
