Lamentations 4:4 יוֹנֵ֛ק The nursing infant’s yō·w·nêq לְשׁ֥וֹן tongue lə·šō·wn דָּבַ֨ק clings dā·ḇaq בַּצָּמָ֑א in thirst baṣ·ṣā·mā אֶל־ to ’el- חכּ֖וֹ the roof of his mouth . ḥ·kō עֽוֹלָלִים֙ Little children ‘ō·w·lā·lîm שָׁ֣אֲלוּ beg for šā·’ă·lū לֶ֔חֶם bread , le·ḥem אֵ֥ין but no ’ên לָהֶֽם׃ס . . . lā·hem פֹּרֵ֖שׂ one gives them any . pō·rêś Lamentations 4:5 הָאֹֽכְלִים֙ Those who once ate hā·’ō·ḵə·lîm לְמַ֣עֲדַנִּ֔ים delicacies lə·ma·‘ă·ḏan·nîm נָשַׁ֖מּוּ are destitute nā·šam·mū בַּחוּצ֑וֹת in the streets ; ba·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ הָאֱמֻנִים֙ those brought up hā·’ĕ·mu·nîm עֲלֵ֣י in ‘ă·lê תוֹלָ֔ע crimson ṯō·w·lā‘ חִבְּק֖וּ huddle ḥib·bə·qū אַשְׁפַּתּֽוֹת׃ס in ash heaps . ’aš·pat·tō·wṯ Lamentations 4:6 עֲוֺ֣ן The punishment ‘ă·wōn בַּת־ of the daughter baṯ- עַמִּ֔י of my people ‘am·mî וַיִּגְדַּל֙ is greater way·yiḡ·dal מֵֽחַטַּ֖את than [that] mê·ḥaṭ·ṭaṯ סְדֹ֑ם of Sodom , sə·ḏōm הַֽהֲפוּכָ֣ה which was overthrown ha·hă·p̄ū·ḵāh כְמוֹ־ in ḵə·mōw- רָ֔גַע an instant rā·ḡa‘ וְלֹא־ without wə·lō- יָדָֽיִם׃ס a hand yā·ḏā·yim חָ֥לוּ turned to help ḥā·lū בָ֖הּ her . ḇāh Lamentations 4:7 נְזִירֶ֙יהָ֙ Her dignitaries nə·zî·re·hā זַכּ֤וּ were brighter zak·kū מִשֶּׁ֔לֶג than snow , miš·še·leḡ צַח֖וּ whiter ṣa·ḥū מֵחָלָ֑ב than milk ; mê·ḥā·lāḇ עֶ֙צֶם֙ their bodies ‘e·ṣem אָ֤דְמוּ were more ruddy ’ā·ḏə·mū מִפְּנִינִ֔ים than rubies , mip·pə·nî·nîm גִּזְרָתָֽם׃ס their appearance giz·rā·ṯām סַפִּ֖יר like sapphires . sap·pîr Lamentations 4:8 תָּֽאֳרָ֔ם But now their appearance tā·’o·rām חָשַׁ֤ךְ is blacker ḥā·šaḵ מִשְּׁחוֹר֙ than soot ; miš·šə·ḥō·wr לֹ֥א they are not lō נִכְּר֖וּ recognized nik·kə·rū בַּחוּצ֑וֹת in the streets . ba·ḥū·ṣō·wṯ עוֹרָם֙ Their skin ‘ō·w·rām צָפַ֤ד has shriveled ṣā·p̄aḏ עַל־ on ‘al- עַצְמָ֔ם their bones ; ‘aṣ·mām הָיָ֥ה it has become hā·yāh יָבֵ֖שׁ as dry yā·ḇêš כָעֵֽץ׃ס as a stick . ḵā·‘êṣ Lamentations 4:9 חַלְלֵי־ Those slain ḥal·lê- חֶ֔רֶב by the sword ḥe·reḇ הָיוּ֙ are hā·yū טוֹבִ֤ים better off ṭō·w·ḇîm מֵֽחַלְלֵ֖י than those who die mê·ḥal·lê רָעָ֑ב of hunger , rā·‘āḇ שֶׁ֣הֵ֤ם who še·hêm יָז֙וּבוּ֙ waste away , yā·zū·ḇū מְדֻקָּרִ֔ים pierced with pain mə·ḏuq·qā·rîm שָׂדָֽי׃ס because the fields śā·ḏāy מִתְּנוּבֹ֖ת lack produce . mit·tə·nū·ḇōṯ Lamentations 4:10 יְדֵ֗י The hands yə·ḏê רַחֲמָ֣נִיּ֔וֹת of compassionate ra·ḥă·mā·nî·yō·wṯ נָשִׁים֙ women nā·šîm בִּשְּׁל֖וּ have cooked biš·šə·lū יַלְדֵיהֶ֑ן their own children , yal·ḏê·hen הָי֤וּ who became hā·yū לְבָרוֹת֙ their food lə·ḇā·rō·wṯ לָ֔מוֹ lā·mōw בְּשֶׁ֖בֶר in the destruction bə·še·ḇer בַּת־ of the daughter baṯ- עַמִּֽי׃ס of my people . ‘am·mî
