בַּמַּקְצֻע֔וֹת it with chisels bam·maq·ṣu·‘ō·wṯ יְתָאֳרֵ֑הוּ and outlines yə·ṯā·’o·rê·hū וּבַמְּחוּגָ֖ה it with a compass . ū·ḇam·mə·ḥū·ḡāh וַֽיַּעֲשֵׂ֙הוּ֙ He fashions it way·ya·‘ă·śê·hū כְּתַבְנִ֣ית in the likeness kə·ṯaḇ·nîṯ אִ֔ישׁ of man , ’îš אָדָ֖ם like man ’ā·ḏām כְּתִפְאֶ֥רֶת in all his glory , kə·ṯip̄·’e·reṯ לָשֶׁ֥בֶת that it may dwell lā·še·ḇeṯ בָּֽיִת׃ in a shrine . bā·yiṯ Isaiah 44:14 לִכְרָת־ He cuts down liḵ·rāṯ- ל֣וֹ lōw אֲרָזִ֔ים cedars ’ă·rā·zîm וַיִּקַּ֤ח or retrieves way·yiq·qaḥ תִּרְזָה֙ a cypress tir·zāh וְאַלּ֔וֹן or oak . wə·’al·lō·wn וַיְאַמֶּץ־ He lets it grow strong way·’am·meṣ- ל֖וֹ lōw בַּעֲצֵי־ among the trees ba·‘ă·ṣê- יָ֑עַר of the forest . yā·‘ar נָטַ֥ע He plants nā·ṭa‘ אֹ֖רֶן a laurel , ʾō·rɛn וְגֶ֥שֶׁם and the rain wə·ḡe·šem יְגַדֵּֽל׃ makes it grow . yə·ḡad·dêl Isaiah 44:15 וְהָיָ֤ה It serves wə·hā·yāh לְבָעֵ֔ר as fuel lə·ḇā·‘êr לְאָדָם֙ for man . lə·’ā·ḏām וַיִּקַּ֤ח He takes way·yiq·qaḥ מֵהֶם֙ some of it mê·hem וַיָּ֔חָם to warm himself , way·yā·ḥām אַף־ and ’ap̄- יַשִּׂ֖יק he kindles a fire yaś·śîq וְאָ֣פָה and bakes wə·’ā·p̄āh לָ֑חֶם [his] bread ; lā·ḥem אַף־ he even ’ap̄- יִפְעַל־ fashions it yip̄·‘al- אֵל֙ into a god ’êl וַיִּשְׁתָּ֔חוּ and worships it ; way·yiš·tā·ḥū עָשָׂ֥הוּ he makes ‘ā·śā·hū פֶ֖סֶל an idol p̄e·sel וַיִּסְגָּד־ and bows down way·yis·gāḏ- לָֽמוֹ׃ to it . lā·mōw Isaiah 44:16 שָׂרַ֣ף He burns śā·rap̄ חֶצְיוֹ֙ half ḥeṣ·yōw בְּמוֹ־ of it in bə·mōw- אֵ֔שׁ the fire , ’êš יִצְלֶ֥ה and he roasts yiṣ·leh בָּשָׂ֣ר meat bā·śār עַל־ on ‘al- חֶצְיוֹ֙ that half . ḥeṣ·yōw יֹאכֵ֔ל He eats yō·ḵêl צָלִ֖י the roast ṣā·lî וְיִשְׂבָּ֑ע and is satisfied . wə·yiś·bā‘ אַף־ Indeed , ’ap̄- יָחֹם֙ he warms himself yā·ḥōm וְיֹאמַ֣ר and says , wə·yō·mar הֶאָ֔ח “ Ah ! he·’āḥ חַמּוֹתִ֖י I am warm ; ḥam·mō·w·ṯî רָאִ֥יתִי I see rā·’î·ṯî אֽוּר׃ the fire . ” ’ūr Isaiah 44:17 וּשְׁאֵ֣רִית֔וֹ From the rest ū·šə·’ê·rî·ṯōw עָשָׂ֖ה he makes ‘ā·śāh לְאֵ֥ל a god , lə·’êl לְפִסְל֑וֹ his graven image . lə·p̄is·lōw יִסְגּוֹד He bows down to it yis·gōḏ ל֤וֹ . . . lōw וְיִשְׁתַּ֙חוּ֙ and worships ; wə·yiš·ta·ḥū וְיִתְפַּלֵּ֣ל he prays wə·yiṯ·pal·lêl אֵלָ֔יו to it ’ê·lāw וְיֹאמַר֙ and says , wə·yō·mar הַצִּילֵ֔נִי “ Save me , haṣ·ṣî·lê·nî כִּ֥י for kî אָֽתָּה׃ you ’āt·tāh אֵלִ֖י are my god . ” ’ê·lî Isaiah 44:18 לֹ֥א They do not lō יָדְע֖וּ comprehend yā·ḏə·‘ū וְלֹ֣א [or] wə·lō יָבִ֑ינוּ discern , yā·ḇî·nū כִּ֣י for kî טַ֤ח He has shut ṭaḥ עֵֽינֵיהֶ֔ם their eyes ‘ê·nê·hem מֵֽרְאוֹת֙ so they cannot see mê·rə·’ō·wṯ לִבֹּתָֽם׃ and [closed] their minds lib·bō·ṯām מֵהַשְׂכִּ֖יל so they cannot understand . mê·haś·kîl
