אֶשְׁלָ֑ח I am sending ? ’eš·lāḥ מִ֤י Who mî עִוֵּר֙ is blind ‘iw·wêr כִּמְשֻׁלָּ֔ם like My covenant partner , kim·šul·lām וְעִוֵּ֖ר or blind wə·‘iw·wêr כְּעֶ֥בֶד like the servant kə·‘e·ḇeḏ יְהוָֽה׃ of YHWH ? Yah·weh Isaiah 42:20 רָאִיתָ Though seeing rå̄·ʾī·ṯå̄ רַבּ֖וֹת many things , rab·bō·wṯ וְלֹ֣א you do not wə·lō תִשְׁמֹ֑ר keep watch . ṯiš·mōr אָזְנַ֖יִם Though your ears ’ā·zə·na·yim פָּק֥וֹחַ are open , pā·qō·w·aḥ וְלֹ֥א you do not wə·lō יִשְׁמָֽע׃ hear . ” yiš·mā‘ Isaiah 42:21 יְהוָ֥ה YHWH Yah·weh חָפֵ֖ץ was pleased , ḥā·p̄êṣ לְמַ֣עַן for the sake of lə·ma·‘an צִדְק֑וֹ His righteousness , ṣiḏ·qōw יַגְדִּ֥יל to magnify yaḡ·dîl תּוֹרָ֖ה His law tō·w·rāh וְיַאְדִּֽיר׃ and make it glorious . wə·ya’·dîr Isaiah 42:22 וְהוּא֮ But this wə·hū עַם־ is a people ‘am- בָּז֣וּז plundered bā·zūz וְשָׁסוּי֒ and looted , wə·šā·sui כֻּלָּ֔ם all kul·lām הָפֵ֤חַ trapped hā·p̄ê·aḥ בַּֽחוּרִים֙ in caves ba·ḥū·rîm הָחְבָּ֑אוּ or imprisoned hā·ḥə·bā·’ū וּבְבָתֵּ֥י in dungeons ū·ḇə·ḇāt·tê כְלָאִ֖ים . . . . ḵə·lā·’îm הָי֤וּ They have become hā·yū לָבַז֙ plunder lā·ḇaz וְאֵ֣ין with no wə·’ên מַצִּ֔יל one to rescue them , maṣ·ṣîl מְשִׁסָּ֖ה and loot mə·šis·sāh וְאֵין־ with no wə·’ên- אֹמֵ֥ר one to say , ’ō·mêr הָשַֽׁב׃ “ Send them back ! ” hā·šaḇ Isaiah 42:23 מִ֥י Who mî בָכֶ֖ם among you ḇā·ḵem יַאֲזִ֣ין will pay attention ya·’ă·zîn זֹ֑את to this ? zōṯ יַקְשִׁ֥ב [Who] will listen yaq·šiḇ וְיִשְׁמַ֖ע and obey wə·yiš·ma‘ לְאָחֽוֹר׃ hereafter ? lə·’ā·ḥō·wr Isaiah 42:24 מִֽי־ Who mî- נָתַ֨ן gave nā·ṯan יַעֲקֹ֛ב Jacob ya·‘ă·qōḇ לִמְשׁוֹסֶה up for spoil , lim·šō·sɛh וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל and Israel wə·yiś·rā·’êl לְבֹזְזִ֖ים to the plunderers ? lə·ḇō·zə·zîm הֲל֣וֹא Was it not hă·lō·w יְהוָ֑ה YHWH , Yah·weh ז֚וּ against whom zū חָטָ֣אנוּ we have sinned ḥā·ṭā·nū ל֔וֹ ? lōw וְלֹֽא־ vvv wə·lō- אָב֤וּ They were unwilling ’ā·ḇū הָל֔וֹךְ to walk hā·lō·wḵ בִדְרָכָיו֙ in His ways , ḇiḏ·rā·ḵāw וְלֹ֥א and they would not wə·lō שָׁמְע֖וּ obey šā·mə·‘ū בְּתוֹרָתֽוֹ׃ His law . bə·ṯō·w·rā·ṯōw Isaiah 42:25 וַיִּשְׁפֹּ֤ךְ So He poured out way·yiš·pōḵ עָלָיו֙ on them ‘ā·lāw חֵמָ֣ה His furious ḥê·māh אַפּ֔וֹ anger ’ap·pōw וֶעֱז֖וּז and the fierceness we·‘ĕ·zūz מִלְחָמָ֑ה of battle . mil·ḥā·māh מִסָּבִיב֙ It enveloped them mis·sā·ḇîḇ וַתְּלַהֲטֵ֤הוּ in flames , wat·tə·la·hă·ṭê·hū וְלֹ֣א but they did not wə·lō יָדָ֔ע understand ; yā·ḏā‘ וַתִּבְעַר־ it consumed them wat·tiḇ·‘ar- בּ֖וֹ , bōw וְלֹא־ but they did not wə·lō- יָשִׂ֥ים take yā·śîm עַל־ it to ‘al- לֵֽב׃פ heart . lêḇ
