Isaiah 36:1 וַיְהִ֡י - way·hî בְּאַרְבַּע֩ In the fourteenth bə·’ar·ba‘ עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה . . . ‘eś·rêh שָׁנָ֜ה year šā·nāh חִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ of Hezekiah’s ḥiz·qî·yā·hū לַמֶּ֣לֶךְ reign , lam·me·leḵ סַנְחֵרִ֤יב Sennacherib san·ḥê·rîḇ מֶֽלֶךְ־ king me·leḵ- אַשּׁוּר֙ of Assyria ’aš·šūr עַ֣ל . . . ‘al עָלָ֞ה attacked ‘ā·lāh וַֽיִּתְפְּשֵֽׂם׃ and captured way·yiṯ·pə·śêm כָּל־ all kāl- הַבְּצֻר֖וֹת the fortified hab·bə·ṣu·rō·wṯ עָרֵ֧י cities ‘ā·rê יְהוּדָ֛ה of Judah . yə·hū·ḏāh Isaiah 36:2 מֶֽלֶךְ־ And the king me·leḵ- אַשּׁ֣וּר׀ of Assyria ’aš·šūr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח sent way·yiš·laḥ רַב־ vvv raḇ- שָׁקֵ֨ה [the] Rabshakeh , šā·qêh כָּבֵ֑ד with a great kā·ḇêḏ בְּחֵ֣יל army , bə·ḥêl מִלָּכִ֧ישׁ from Lachish mil·lā·ḵîš אֶל־ to ’el- הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ King ham·me·leḵ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ Hezekiah ḥiz·qî·yā·hū יְרוּשָׁלְַ֛מָה at Jerusalem . yə·rū·šā·lə·māh וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד And he stopped way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ בִּתְעָלַת֙ by the aqueduct biṯ·‘ā·laṯ הָעֶלְיוֹנָ֔ה of the upper hā·‘el·yō·w·nāh הַבְּרֵכָ֣ה pool , hab·bə·rê·ḵāh בִּמְסִלַּ֖ת on the road bim·sil·laṯ כוֹבֵֽס׃ to the Launderer’s ḵō·w·ḇês שְׂדֵ֥ה Field . śə·ḏêh Isaiah 36:3 אֶלְיָקִ֥ים Then Eliakim ’el·yā·qîm בֶּן־ son ben- חִלְקִיָּ֖הוּ of Hilkiah ḥil·qî·yā·hū אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer הַבָּ֑יִת the palace hab·bā·yiṯ עַל־ administrator , ‘al- וְשֶׁבְנָא֙ Shebna wə·šeḇ·nā הַסֹּפֵ֔ר the scribe , has·sō·p̄êr וְיוֹאָ֥ח and Joah wə·yō·w·’āḥ בֶּן־ son ben- אָסָ֖ף of Asaph ’ā·sāp̄ הַמַּזְכִּֽיר׃ the recorder , ham·maz·kîr וַיֵּצֵ֥א went out way·yê·ṣê אֵלָ֛יו to him . ’ê·lāw Isaiah 36:4 רַב־ vvv raḇ- שָׁקֵ֔ה The Rabshakeh šā·qêh וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֲלֵיהֶם֙ to them , ’ă·lê·hem אִמְרוּ־ “ Tell ’im·rū- נָ֖א . . . nā אֶל־ . . . ’el- חִזְקִיָּ֑הוּ Hezekiah ḥiz·qî·yā·hū כֹּֽה־ that this is what kōh- הַגָּדוֹל֙ the great hag·gā·ḏō·wl הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ king , ham·me·leḵ מֶ֣לֶךְ the king me·leḵ אַשּׁ֔וּר of Assyria , ’aš·šūr אָמַ֞ר says : ’ā·mar מָ֧ה What māh בָּטָֽחְתָּ׃ is the basis bā·ṭā·ḥə·tā הַזֶּ֖ה [of] this haz·zeh הַבִּטָּח֛וֹן confidence hab·biṭ·ṭā·ḥō·wn אֲשֶׁ֥ר of yours ? ’ă·šer Isaiah 36:5 אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ You claim [to have] ’ā·mar·tî עֵצָ֥ה a strategy ‘ê·ṣāh וּגְבוּרָ֖ה and strength ū·ḡə·ḇū·rāh לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה for war , lam·mil·ḥā·māh אַךְ־ but ’aḵ- דְּבַר־ [these are] empty də·ḇar- שְׂפָתַ֔יִם words . śə·p̄ā·ṯa·yim עַל־ In ‘al- מִ֣י whom mî עַתָּה֙ are you now ‘at·tāh בָטַ֔חְתָּ trusting , ḇā·ṭaḥ·tā כִּ֥י that kî מָרַ֖דְתָּ you have rebelled mā·raḏ·tā בִּֽי׃ against me ? bî
