לָ֖מָּה Why lām·māh תִּשּׁוֹמֵֽם׃ should you destroy yourself? tiš·šō·w·mêm Ecclesiastes 7:17 אַל־ Do not ’al- הַרְבֵּ֖ה be excessively har·bêh תִּרְשַׁ֥ע wicked , tir·ša‘ וְאַל־ and do not wə·’al- תְּהִ֣י be tə·hî סָכָ֑ל a fool . sā·ḵāl לָ֥מָּה Why lām·māh תָמ֖וּת should you die ṯā·mūṯ בְּלֹ֥א before bə·lō עִתֶּֽךָ׃ your time ? ‘it·te·ḵā Ecclesiastes 7:18 ט֚וֹב It is good ṭō·wḇ אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer תֶּאֱחֹ֣ז to grasp te·’ĕ·ḥōz בָּזֶ֔ה the one bā·zeh וְגַם־ and wə·ḡam- אַל־ not ’al- תַּנַּ֣ח let the other slip tan·naḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מִזֶּ֖ה from miz·zeh יָדֶ֑ךָ your hand . yā·ḏe·ḵā כִּֽי־ For kî- יְרֵ֥א he who fears yə·rê אֱלֹהִ֖ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm יֵצֵ֥א will follow yê·ṣê אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כֻּלָּֽם׃ both [warnings] . kul·lām Ecclesiastes 7:19 הַֽחָכְמָ֖ה Wisdom ha·ḥā·ḵə·māh לֶחָכָ֑ם makes the wise man le·ḥā·ḵām תָּעֹ֣ז stronger than tā·‘ōz מֵֽעֲשָׂרָה֙ ten mê·‘ă·śā·rāh שַׁלִּיטִ֔ים rulers šal·lî·ṭîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer הָי֖וּ - hā·yū בָּעִֽיר׃ in a city . bā·‘îr Ecclesiastes 7:20 כִּ֣י Surely kî אֵ֥ין there is no ’ên צַדִּ֖יק righteous ṣad·dîq אָדָ֔ם man ’ā·ḏām בָּאָ֑רֶץ on earth bā·’ā·reṣ אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ’ă·šer יַעֲשֶׂה־ does ya·‘ă·śeh- טּ֖וֹב good ṭō·wḇ וְלֹ֥א and never wə·lō יֶחֱטָֽא׃ sins . ye·ḥĕ·ṭā Ecclesiastes 7:21 גַּ֤ם - gam אַל־ Do not ’al- תִּתֵּ֖ן pay tit·tên לִבֶּ֑ךָ attention lib·be·ḵā אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer לְכָל־ to every lə·ḵāl הַדְּבָרִים֙ word had·də·ḇā·rîm אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ is spoken , yə·ḏab·bê·rū לֹֽא־ or lō- תִשְׁמַ֥ע you may hear ṯiš·ma‘ אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- עַבְדְּךָ֖ your servant ‘aḇ·də·ḵā מְקַלְלֶֽךָ׃ cursing you . mə·qal·le·ḵā Ecclesiastes 7:22 כִּ֛י For kî גַּם־ . . . gam- יָדַ֣ע you know yā·ḏa‘ לִבֶּ֑ךָ in your heart lib·be·ḵā אֲשֶׁ֥ר that ’ă·šer גַּם־ . . . gam- רַבּ֖וֹת many rab·bō·wṯ פְּעָמִ֥ים times pə·‘ā·mîm אַתְּ you yourself ʾat קִלַּ֥לְתָּ have cursed qil·lal·tā אֲחֵרִֽים׃ others . ’ă·ḥê·rîm Ecclesiastes 7:23 כָּל־ All kāl- זֹ֖ה this zōh נִסִּ֣יתִי I tested nis·sî·ṯî בַֽחָכְמָ֑ה by wisdom, [saying] , ḇa·ḥā·ḵə·māh אָמַ֣רְתִּי “ I resolve ’ā·mar·tî אֶחְכָּ֔מָה to be wise . ” ’eḥ·kā·māh וְהִ֖יא But it wə·hî רְחוֹקָ֥ה was beyond rə·ḥō·w·qāh
