Ecclesiastes 8:1 מִ֚י Who mî כְּהֶ֣חָכָ֔ם is like the wise man ? kə·he·ḥā·ḵām וּמִ֥י Who ū·mî יוֹדֵ֖עַ knows yō·w·ḏê·a‘ פֵּ֣שֶׁר the interpretation pê·šer דָּבָ֑ר of a matter ? dā·ḇār אָדָם֙ A man’s ’ā·ḏām חָכְמַ֤ת wisdom ḥā·ḵə·maṯ תָּאִ֣יר brightens tā·’îr פָּנָ֔יו his face , pā·nāw וְעֹ֥ז and the sternness wə·‘ōz פָּנָ֖יו of his face pā·nāw יְשֻׁנֶּֽא׃ is changed . yə·šun·ne Ecclesiastes 8:2 שְׁמ֔וֹר Keep šə·mō·wr מֶ֣לֶךְ the king’s me·leḵ פִּי־ command , pî- אֲנִי֙ I say , ’ă·nî וְעַ֕ל because of wə·‘al דִּבְרַ֖ת . . . diḇ·raṯ שְׁבוּעַ֥ת your oath šə·ḇū·‘aṯ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ before God . ’ĕ·lō·hîm Ecclesiastes 8:3 אַל־ Do not ’al- תִּבָּהֵ֤ל hasten tib·bā·hêl תֵּלֵ֔ךְ to leave tê·lêḵ מִפָּנָיו֙ his presence , mip·pā·nāw אַֽל־ and do not ’al- תַּעֲמֹ֖ד persist ta·‘ă·mōḏ רָ֑ע in a bad rā‘ בְּדָבָ֣ר cause , bə·ḏā·ḇār כִּ֛י for kî יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ he will do ya·‘ă·śeh כָּל־ whatever kāl- אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer יַחְפֹּ֖ץ he pleases . yaḥ·pōṣ Ecclesiastes 8:4 בַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר For ba·’ă·šer מֶ֖לֶךְ the king’s me·leḵ דְּבַר־ word də·ḇar- שִׁלְט֑וֹן is supreme , šil·ṭō·wn וּמִ֥י and who ū·mî יֹֽאמַר־ can say yō·mar- ל֖וֹ to him , lōw מַֽה־ “ What mah- תַּעֲשֶֽׂה׃ are you doing ? ” ta·‘ă·śeh Ecclesiastes 8:5 שׁוֹמֵ֣ר Whoever keeps šō·w·mêr מִצְוָ֔ה his command miṣ·wāh יֵדַ֖ע will come to yê·ḏa‘ דָּבָ֣ר . . . dā·ḇār לֹ֥א no lō רָ֑ע harm , rā‘ חָכָֽם׃ and a wise ḥā·ḵām לֵ֥ב heart lêḇ יֵדַ֖ע knows yê·ḏa‘ וְעֵ֣ת the right time wə·‘êṯ וּמִשְׁפָּ֔ט and procedure . ū·miš·pāṭ Ecclesiastes 8:6 כִּ֣י For kî יֵ֖שׁ there is yêš עֵ֣ת a right time ‘êṯ וּמִשְׁפָּ֑ט and procedure ū·miš·pāṭ לְכָל־ to every lə·ḵāl חֵ֔פֶץ purpose , ḥê·p̄eṣ כִּֽי־ though kî- הָאָדָ֖ם a man’s hā·’ā·ḏām רָעַ֥ת misery rā·‘aṯ רַבָּ֥ה weighs heavily rab·bāh עָלָֽיו׃ upon him . ‘ā·lāw Ecclesiastes 8:7 כִּֽי־ Since kî- אֵינֶ֥נּוּ no one ’ê·nen·nū יֹדֵ֖עַ knows yō·ḏê·a‘ מַה־ what mah- שֶּׁיִּֽהְיֶ֑ה will happen , še·yih·yeh מִ֖י who mî יַגִּ֥יד can tell yag·gîḏ לֽוֹ׃ him lōw כִּ֚י - kî כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר what ka·’ă·šer יִֽהְיֶ֔ה is to come ? yih·yeh Ecclesiastes 8:8 אֵ֣ין As no ’ên אָדָ֞ם man ’ā·ḏām
