תֹּאמַ֥ר say , tō·mar אֲשַׁלְּמָה־ “ I will avenge ’ă·šal·lə·māh- רָ֑ע this evil ! ” rā‘ קַוֵּ֥ה Wait qaw·wêh לַֽ֝יהוָ֗ה on YHWH , Yah·weh וְיֹ֣שַֽׁע and He will save wə·yō·ša‘ לָֽךְ׃ you . lāḵ Proverbs 20:23 אֶ֣בֶן Unequal weights ’e·ḇen וָאָ֑בֶן . . . wā·’ā·ḇen תּוֹעֲבַ֣ת are detestable tō·w·‘ă·ḇaṯ יְ֭הוָה to YHWH , Yah·weh מִרְמָ֣ה and dishonest mir·māh וּמֹאזְנֵ֖י scales ū·mō·zə·nê לֹא־ are no lō- טֽוֹב׃ good . ṭō·wḇ Proverbs 20:24 גָ֑בֶר A man’s ḡā·ḇer מִצְעֲדֵי־ steps miṣ·‘ă·ḏê- מֵיהוָ֥ה [are] from YHWH , mē·h·wå̄h מַה־ so how mah- וְ֝אָדָ֗ם can anyone wə·’ā·ḏām יָּבִ֥ין understand yā·ḇîn דַּרְכּֽוֹ׃ his own way ? dar·kōw Proverbs 20:25 מוֹקֵ֣שׁ It is a trap mō·w·qêš אָ֭דָם for a man ’ā·ḏām קֹ֑דֶשׁ to dedicate qō·ḏeš יָ֣לַע something rashly , yā·la‘ וְאַחַ֖ר only later wə·’a·ḥar לְבַקֵּֽר׃ to reconsider lə·ḇaq·qêr נְדָרִ֣ים his vows . nə·ḏā·rîm Proverbs 20:26 חָכָ֑ם A wise ḥā·ḵām מֶ֣לֶךְ king me·leḵ מְזָרֶ֣ה separates out mə·zā·reh רְ֭שָׁעִים the wicked rə·šā·‘îm וַיָּ֖שֶׁב and drives way·yā·šeḇ אוֹפָֽן׃ the threshing wheel ’ō·w·p̄ān עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם over them . ‘ă·lê·hem Proverbs 20:27 נִשְׁמַ֣ת The spirit niš·maṯ אָדָ֑ם of a man ’ā·ḏām נֵ֣ר [is] the lamp nêr יְ֭הוָה of YHWH , Yah·weh חֹ֝פֵ֗שׂ searching out ḥō·p̄êś כָּל־ . . . kāl- חַדְרֵי־ his inmost being ḥaḏ·rê- בָֽטֶן׃ . . . . ḇā·ṭen Proverbs 20:28 חֶ֣סֶד Loving devotion ḥe·seḏ וֶ֭אֱמֶת and faithfulness we·’ĕ·meṯ יִצְּרוּ־ preserve yiṣ·ṣə·rū- מֶ֑לֶךְ a king ; me·leḵ בַּחֶ֣סֶד by these ba·ḥe·seḏ וְסָעַ֖ד he maintains wə·sā·‘aḏ כִּסְאֽוֹ׃ his throne . kis·’ōw Proverbs 20:29 תִּפְאֶ֣רֶת The glory tip̄·’e·reṯ בַּחוּרִ֣ים of young men ba·ḥū·rîm כֹּחָ֑ם is their strength , kō·ḥām שֵׂיבָֽה׃ and gray hair śê·ḇāh וַהֲדַ֖ר is the splendor wa·hă·ḏar זְקֵנִ֣ים of the old . zə·qê·nîm Proverbs 20:30 חַבֻּר֣וֹת Lashes ḥab·bu·rō·wṯ פֶּ֭צַע and wounds pe·ṣa‘ תַּמְרִיק scour tam·rīq בְּרָ֑ע evil , bə·rā‘ וּ֝מַכּ֗וֹת and beatings ū·mak·kō·wṯ חַדְרֵי־ cleanse the inmost parts ḥaḏ·rê- בָֽטֶן׃ . . . . ḇā·ṭen Proverbs 21:1 מֶ֭לֶךְ The king’s me·leḵ לֶב־ heart leḇ- פַּלְגֵי־ is a waterway pal·ḡê- מַ֣יִם . . . ma·yim בְּיַד־ in the hand bə·yaḏ- יְהוָ֑ה of YHWH ; Yah·weh יַטֶּֽנּוּ׃ He directs it yaṭ·ṭen·nū עַֽל־ where ‘al- כָּל־ . . . kāl-
