Esther 2:23 הַדָּבָר֙ After the report had·dā·ḇār וַיְבֻקַּ֤שׁ had been investigated way·ḇuq·qaš וַיִּמָּצֵ֔א and verified , way·yim·mā·ṣê שְׁנֵיהֶ֖ם both [officials] šə·nê·hem וַיִּתָּל֥וּ were hanged way·yit·tā·lū עַל־ on ‘al- עֵ֑ץ the gallows . ‘êṣ וַיִּכָּתֵ֗ב And all this was recorded way·yik·kā·ṯêḇ בְּסֵ֛פֶר in the Book bə·sê·p̄er דִּבְרֵ֥י of the Chronicles diḇ·rê הַיָּמִ֖ים . . . hay·yā·mîm לִפְנֵ֥י in the presence lip̄·nê הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃פ of the king . ham·me·leḵ Esther 3:1 אַחַ֣ר׀ After ’a·ḥar הָאֵ֗לֶּה these hā·’êl·leh הַדְּבָרִ֣ים events , had·də·ḇā·rîm הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ King ham·me·leḵ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֜וֹשׁ Xerxes ’ă·ḥaš·wê·rō·wōš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- גִּדַּל֩ honored gid·dal הָמָ֧ן Haman hā·mān בֶּֽן־ son ben- הַמְּדָ֛תָא of Hammedatha , ham·mə·ḏā·ṯā הָאֲגָגִ֖י the Agagite , hā·’ă·ḡā·ḡî וַֽיְנַשְּׂאֵ֑הוּ elevating him way·naś·śə·’ê·hū וַיָּ֙שֶׂם֙ . . . way·yā·śem אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כִּסְא֔וֹ to a position kis·’ōw מֵעַ֕ל above mê·‘al כָּל־ all kāl- הַשָּׂרִ֖ים the princes haś·śā·rîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ’ă·šer אִתּֽוֹ׃ [were] with him . ’it·tōw Esther 3:2 וְכָל־ All wə·ḵāl הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ the royal ham·me·leḵ אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- עַבְדֵ֨י servants ‘aḇ·ḏê הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ at the king’s ham·me·leḵ בְּשַׁ֣עַר gate bə·ša·‘ar כֹּרְעִ֤ים bowed down kō·rə·‘îm וּמִֽשְׁתַּחֲוִים֙ and paid homage ū·miš·ta·ḥă·wîm לְהָמָ֔ן to Haman , lə·hā·mān כִּי־ because kî- הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ צִוָּה־ had commanded ṣiw·wāh- כֵ֖ן that this [be done] ḵên ל֣וֹ for him . lōw וּמָ֨רְדֳּכַ֔י But Mordecai ū·mā·rə·do·ḵay לֹ֥א would not lō יִכְרַ֖ע bow down yiḵ·ra‘ וְלֹ֥א . . . wə·lō יִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֶֽה׃ or pay homage . yiš·ta·ḥă·weh Esther 3:3 הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ Then the royal ham·me·leḵ אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- עַבְדֵ֥י servants ‘aḇ·ḏê הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ at the king’s ham·me·leḵ בְּשַׁ֥עַר gate bə·ša·‘ar וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ asked way·yō·mə·rū לְמָרְדֳּכָ֑י Mordecai , lə·mā·rə·do·ḵāy מַדּ֙וּעַ֙ “ Why mad·dū·a‘ אַתָּ֣ה do you ’at·tāh עוֹבֵ֔ר disobey ‘ō·w·ḇêr אֵ֖ת - ’êṯ מִצְוַ֥ת the command miṣ·waṯ הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ of the king ? ” ham·me·leḵ Esther 3:4 וַיְהִ֗י - way·hî י֣וֹם Day yō·wm וָי֔וֹם after day wā·yō·wm בְּאָמְרָם they warned bə·ʾå̄·mə·rå̄m אֵלָיו֙ him , ’ê·lāw וְלֹ֥א but he would not wə·lō שָׁמַ֖ע comply šā·ma‘ אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם . . . . ’ă·lê·hem וַיַּגִּ֣ידוּ So they reported it way·yag·gî·ḏū לְהָמָ֗ן to Haman lə·hā·mān לִרְאוֹת֙ to see lir·’ō·wṯ מָרְדֳּכַ֔י whether Mordecai’s mā·rə·do·ḵay דִּבְרֵ֣י behavior diḇ·rê הֲיַֽעַמְדוּ֙ would be tolerated , hă·ya·‘am·ḏū כִּֽי־ since kî- הִגִּ֥יד he had told hig·gîḏ לָהֶ֖ם . . . lā·hem אֲשֶׁר־ them ’ă·šer- ה֥וּא he hū יְהוּדִֽי׃ was a Jew . yə·hū·ḏî
