Genesis 44:18 יְהוּדָ֗ה Then Judah yə·hū·ḏāh וַיִּגַּ֨שׁ approached way·yig·gaš אֵלָ֜יו [Joseph] ’ê·lāw וַיֹּאמֶר֮ and said , way·yō·mer בִּ֣י “ Sir bî אֲדֹנִי֒ . . . , ’ă·ḏō·nî נָ֨א please nā עַבְדְּךָ֤ let your servant ‘aḇ·də·ḵā דָבָר֙ . . . ḏā·ḇār בְּאָזְנֵ֣י . . . bə·’ā·zə·nê יְדַבֶּר־ speak yə·ḏab·ber- אֲדֹנִ֔י personally to my lord . ’ă·ḏō·nî וְאַל־ Do not wə·’al- יִ֥חַר be angry yi·ḥar אַפְּךָ֖ . . . ’ap·pə·ḵā בְּעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ with your servant , bə·‘aḇ·de·ḵā כִּ֥י for kî כָמ֖וֹךָ you are equal to ḵā·mō·w·ḵā כְּפַרְעֹֽה׃ Pharaoh himself . kə·p̄ar·‘ōh Genesis 44:19 אֲדֹנִ֣י My lord ’ă·ḏō·nî שָׁאַ֔ל asked šā·’al אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עֲבָדָ֖יו his servants , ‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw לֵאמֹ֑ר . . . lê·mōr הֲיֵשׁ־ ‘ Do you have hă·yêš- לָכֶ֥ם . . . lā·ḵem אָ֖ב a father ’āḇ אוֹ־ or ’ōw- אָֽח׃ a brother ? ’ ’āḥ Genesis 44:20 וַנֹּ֙אמֶר֙ And we answered wan·nō·mer אֶל־ . . . ’el- אֲדֹנִ֔י . . . , ’ă·ḏō·nî יֶשׁ־ ‘ We have yeš- לָ֙נוּ֙ . . . lā·nū זָקֵ֔ן an elderly zā·qên אָ֣ב father ’āḇ קָטָ֑ן and a younger brother , qā·ṭān וְיֶ֥לֶד the child wə·ye·leḏ זְקֻנִ֖ים of his old age . zə·qu·nîm וְאָחִ֨יו The boy’s brother wə·’ā·ḥîw מֵ֜ת is dead . mêṯ ה֧וּא He hū לְבַדּ֛וֹ is the only lə·ḇad·dōw לְאִמּ֖וֹ one of his mother’s lə·’im·mōw וַיִּוָּתֵ֨ר sons left , way·yiw·wā·ṯêr וְאָבִ֥יו and his father wə·’ā·ḇîw אֲהֵבֽוֹ׃ loves him . ’ ’ă·hê·ḇōw Genesis 44:21 וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ Then you told wat·tō·mer אֶל־ . . . ’el- עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ your servants , ‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā הוֹרִדֻ֖הוּ ‘ Bring him down hō·w·ri·ḏu·hū אֵלָ֑י to me ’ê·lāy וְאָשִׂ֥ימָה so that I can see wə·’ā·śî·māh עָלָֽיו׃ him ‘ā·lāw עֵינִ֖י for myself . ’ ‘ê·nî Genesis 44:22 וַנֹּ֙אמֶר֙ So we said wan·nō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- אֲדֹנִ֔י my lord , ’ă·ḏō·nî הַנַּ֖עַר ‘ The boy han·na·‘ar לֹא־ cannot lō- יוּכַ֥ל . . . yū·ḵal לַעֲזֹ֣ב leave la·‘ă·zōḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אָבִ֑יו his father . ’ā·ḇîw וְעָזַ֥ב If he were to leave , wə·‘ā·zaḇ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אָבִ֖יו his father ’ā·ḇîw וָמֵֽת׃ would die . ’ wā·mêṯ Genesis 44:23 וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ But you said wat·tō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- עֲבָדֶ֔יךָ your servants , ‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā אִם־ ‘ vvv ’im- לֹ֥א Unless lō הַקָּטֹ֖ן your younger haq·qā·ṭōn אֲחִיכֶ֥ם brother ’ă·ḥî·ḵem יֵרֵ֛ד comes down yê·rêḏ אִתְּכֶ֑ם with you , ’it·tə·ḵem לֹ֥א you will not lō לִרְא֥וֹת see lir·’ō·wṯ פָּנָֽי׃ my face pā·nāy תֹסִפ֖וּן again . ’ ṯō·si·p̄ūn
