חֹֽשְׁבִ֔ים were planning ḥō·šə·ḇîm לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת to harm la·‘ă·śō·wṯ רָעָֽה׃ . . . rā·‘āh לִ֖י me . lî Nehemiah 6:3 וָאֶשְׁלְחָ֨ה So I sent wā·’eš·lə·ḥāh מַלְאָכִים֙ messengers mal·’ā·ḵîm עֲלֵיהֶ֤ם to them , ‘ă·lê·hem לֵאמֹ֔ר saying , lê·mōr אֲנִ֣י “ I ’ă·nî עֹשֶׂ֔ה am doing ‘ō·śeh גְדוֹלָה֙ a great ḡə·ḏō·w·lāh מְלָאכָ֤ה work mə·lā·ḵāh וְלֹ֥א and cannot wə·lō אוּכַ֖ל . . . ’ū·ḵal לָרֶ֑דֶת come down . lā·re·ḏeṯ לָ֣מָּה Why lām·māh הַמְּלָאכָה֙ should the work ham·mə·lā·ḵāh תִשְׁבַּ֤ת stop ṯiš·baṯ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר while ka·’ă·šer אַרְפֶּ֔הָ I leave it ’ar·pe·hā וְיָרַדְתִּ֖י to go down wə·yā·raḏ·tî אֲלֵיכֶֽם׃ to you ? ” ’ă·lê·ḵem Nehemiah 6:4 אַרְבַּ֣ע Four ’ar·ba‘ פְּעָמִ֑ים times pə·‘ā·mîm וַיִּשְׁלְח֥וּ they sent me way·yiš·lə·ḥū אֵלַ֛י . . . ’ê·lay הַזֶּ֖ה the same haz·zeh כַּדָּבָ֥ר message , kad·dā·ḇār וָאָשִׁ֥יב and each time I gave wā·’ā·šîḇ אוֹתָ֖ם - ’ō·w·ṯām הַזֶּֽה׃ס the same haz·zeh כַּדָּבָ֥ר reply . kad·dā·ḇār Nehemiah 6:5 חֲמִישִׁ֖ית The fifth ḥă·mî·šîṯ אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- פַּ֥עַם time , pa·‘am סַנְבַלַּ֜ט Sanballat san·ḇal·laṭ וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ sent me way·yiš·laḥ אֵלַ֨י . . . ’ê·lay הַזֶּ֛ה this haz·zeh כַּדָּבָ֥ר same message kad·dā·ḇār נַעֲר֑וֹ by his young servant , na·‘ă·rōw בְּיָדֽוֹ׃ who had in his hand bə·yā·ḏōw פְּתוּחָ֖ה an unsealed pə·ṯū·ḥāh וְאִגֶּ֥רֶת letter wə·’ig·ge·reṯ Nehemiah 6:6 כָּת֣וּב that read kā·ṯūḇ בָּ֗הּ : bāh נִשְׁמָע֙ “ It is reported niš·mā‘ בַּגּוֹיִ֤ם among the nations — bag·gō·w·yim וְגַשְׁמ֣וּ and Geshem wə·ḡaš·mū אֹמֵ֔ר agrees — ’ō·mêr אַתָּ֤ה that you ’at·tāh וְהַיְּהוּדִים֙ and the Jews wə·hay·yə·hū·ḏîm חֹשְׁבִ֣ים are plotting ḥō·šə·ḇîm לִמְר֔וֹד to revolt , lim·rō·wḏ עַל־ [and] this is why ‘al- כֵּ֛ן . . . kên אַתָּ֥ה you ’at·tāh בוֹנֶ֖ה are building ḇō·w·neh הַחוֹמָ֑ה the wall . ha·ḥō·w·māh הָאֵֽלֶּה׃ According to these hā·’êl·leh כַּדְּבָרִ֖ים reports , kad·də·ḇā·rîm וְאַתָּ֗ה you wə·’at·tāh הֹוֶ֤ה are to become hō·weh לָהֶם֙ their lā·hem לְמֶ֔לֶךְ king , lə·me·leḵ Nehemiah 6:7 וְגַם־ and you have even wə·ḡam- הֶעֱמַ֣דְתָּ appointed he·‘ĕ·maḏ·tā נְבִיאִ֡ים prophets nə·ḇî·’îm בִֽירוּשָׁלִַ֜ם in Jerusalem ḇî·rū·šā·lim לֵאמֹ֗ר . . . lê·mōr לִקְרֹא֩ to proclaim liq·rō עָלֶ֨יךָ on your behalf : ‘ā·le·ḵā מֶ֚לֶךְ ‘ There is a king me·leḵ בִּֽיהוּדָ֔ה in Judah . ’ bî·hū·ḏāh וְעַתָּ֣ה Soon wə·‘at·tāh הָאֵ֑לֶּה these hā·’êl·leh כַּדְּבָרִ֣ים rumors kad·də·ḇā·rîm יִשָּׁמַ֣ע will reach the ears yiš·šā·ma‘ לַמֶּ֔לֶךְ of the king . lam·me·leḵ וְעַתָּה֙ So wə·‘at·tāh לְכָ֔ה come , lə·ḵāh וְנִֽוָּעֲצָ֖ה let us confer wə·niw·wā·‘ă·ṣāh יַחְדָּֽו׃ס together . ” yaḥ·dāw
